I think potentially...

CNET (who broke the news of the lightpeak media event) may know the specs of the new MBP already, but they are under NDA. They have not picked on the rumors this week like they usually do...

I wonder if Apple will actually be sending an executive to the Intel event on Thurs and unveil the MBP together with it as the first major adopter of the technology. I think there is a decent chance this will happen...

Based on the changes in this rumor, I believe it is a major redesign, not just a spec bump. I really hope there is an i5 upgrade for the high end MBP 13 :/

i5, 13"??? lol NOOO

DREAM ON, DREAM ON, dream until the dream come true...

I still rip CDs and burn DVDs so yes, an optical drive is still useful for me. However, I have an external optical drive, and can use it at my desk, so I would probably prefer a lighter and faster laptop sans optical drive.

I actually think Intel is going to demonstrate LightPeak on a new MPB!

Sucks I just sold my used 10 month old macbook pro 13" for 1100 and eBay is charging 50 of fees and paypal just charged 50 to receive the money..They are such a joke...I'm refunding this and giving this to my mother instead....

When you put something for sale on ebay it explains that and paypal also does.

Im confused... how is Mac OS behind in handling modern displays???!!!!

A resolution-independent OS can scale up the size of the user interface elements to compensate for high pixel density. That is, you can make the menus, toolbars, and text exactly the same physical size regardless of the display's dpi. Mac OS (with the exception of the dock and desktop icons) cannot do this. As a result, a high-dpi display renders the OS unusable.

When will Apple finally start building 15"&17" MBA Pro's (with a better name)???

Btw, also notice that if in the new MBP's they offer an option for replacing the optical drive with SSD, that this means that there will still be a CD loading slit on the side of the unibody. Isn't that weird? Why would they not just offer two categories of computers? It is obvious that there is a HUGE market for non-underpowered larger display Macbook Air's. Why Apple won't you simply cater to this market?

(I've been saying this same thing for 4 years now, I guess I'm just way ahead of Apple's market analysts, but my question is am I way ahead of the general population? Judging from my colleagues and friends, I am not, so this leads to the question if my colleagues and friends are way ahead of the general population....)

I think I can sacrifice 10W for twice the processing power. Apple, your next version of final cut will run soooo much smoother on a quad core processor....

I agree, but Apple doesn't.

Also it would cause to much internal heat. focused in the cpu area

Man the gpu also matters I would rather have the 320 than Intel intergraded HD crap

Edit damn nook auto correction

Reading this doesn't help. Now i just want to upgrade. Its absolutely unnecessary though. Man...

I'm skeptical about no white MacBook, unless it becomes exclusive to the education market. In which case does the 13" Pro become "MacBook" or do we only have "MacBook Pro" and "MacBook Air". Seems like spotty marketing to me.

hmm the only thing that is making me sad is the 16GB SSD, the extra USB port [although i hope they do put reasonable space between them] and the i3 and the HD screen...
i have the 2010 model, but i probably wont update it.. hmm but these problems except for the HD screen and the i3 can be easily remedied.. maybe it isnt so bad after all?....

well i hope all you waiters will enjoy this new MBP!!

Will I run into issues with this 16GB SSD using Boot Camp? I would imagine the bootloader would handle the partition address of the BootCamp even if it is physically located on a separate drive... Any one care to shed some light on this?

If I can get a higher resolution matte screen and 12 hour battery on a 13" I will sell mine and trade up for sure. Other than that I dont care much about any upgrades.

people do use an optical drive, maybe not most at this forum because we don't have the need. but the regular user will, even if it is for the one or 2 times its better to have sales wise
Yes, putting features just so sales people have a longer list of things to rattle down is the traditional Apple way.

See, if you had an option to replace the ODD with a second battery, would that be worth it?
On how many days would you need to carry an external ODD with you vs. on how many days would you need to carry an extra battery (or the charger) with you?
If you would need the ODD twice per year, the longer battery live however once per week, would the answer not be a no-brainer?
Same with storage space, often not having to carry an external drive with you is worth much more than not having to carry an external ODD with you.
