This is the MacRumors I Like. The close to release rumors/leaks. I can feel the excitement.

Man going to be tough not to buy in here. SSD. lightpeak. i3. extra usb. hd screen. better battery life. man don't tell me a dedicated graphics card on the 13" otherwise I'll have a heart attack. (although better battery life probably means no.)

ONly thing that could make me wait is if they say the Imac will get lightpeak and ssd boot drive etc.

Eidorian is still here. Haha. And still true to form.
You have to sacrifice something beyond that hole in your wallet. It usually revolves around the processor, GPU, or display. Yes, Apple does use TN panels for their notebooks. 1366 x 768 is a plague as well.

Anyway, there will not be a smallish SSD onboard unless we see 10.6.7 released on thursday as well that addresses the following:

10.6.6 and pretty much every version before it DOES NOT easily allow the home directory library et al to be moved off the internal system drive. It's always been about 1 and only 1 drive that can be called the system drive. Applications such as Adobe's Creative Suite, Maybe even office and a slew of others require that they be installed to the system drive.
YES
you can trick the OS using symbolic links and a whole slew of other stuff, but the average joe will not A) want to -or- B) know how to set up such a solution. A what if the secondary disk fails? The system won't boot!

iTunes and iLife applications still store files in the home directory. Is this going to be moved off of the "system" drive by default? How so? How will we control this? What about those of us with older systems that don't have an onboard SSD.

Again, if Apple addresses the current inadequacies for a seamless dual drive setup then I can believe such a rumor. Until then...no.
It will be interesting to see how this is addressed. I would not expect it until the next version of OS X or possibly in Windows 8. I would like to get more details on what Lenovo does for their solution currently under Windows 7.

This is my first time following an apple release. I'll be buying a MBP day one in all likelihood. It blows my mind that such a major product can be so close to release yet not be officially known about. Is this par for the course?

Because it makes the physical laptop thicker and heavier even when you are not using the cd at all!

hardly that much thicker..i think the option would be the best choice but personally i think apple would lose a lot of customers if they removed the ODD

what i dont get..is why people say oh buy an external cd drive...well why do thatl....when it can be built in to the physical laptop!

I, along with many other people think that no one really uses the optical drive anymore. However, we understand that there are some uses for an optical drive. But how much do you really use it? For me it's once or twice a year. You wouldn't trade it out to get a more powerful computer? And if you really need one, you can get an external that is slim and fits in a laptop case along with your Macbook Pro.

I'm sure people were saying the same thing the floppy disk.

No white macbook? :(

I never really liked the aluminum style, maybe because I wanted for years a mac (the old ones, the bubble/aqua style plastic) and when I was finally able to get one they switched to aluminum.

This aluminum is so pc for me

Why do we have external power supplies and not ones that are built into the physical laptop?
Because ... by being external we do not need to carry them with us on days when we are not going to need them.

I hope the 16GB mSATA is true AND would be an addition to a regular 2.5" drive for everything else. That would ROCK!

It could be possible, the mSATA could be "onboard" without needing to remove the 2.5" drive. MacOS would go on that; and we still have the option to upgrade the 2.5" drive to another SSD if we wish. That would be one FAST laptop and give users the best of both words and hundreds of combo's.

The 3rd USB might actually be a lightpeak connector... early images shows it looks like a USB connector. Or atleast I HOPE it is! BUT 3 USB in addition to lightpeak would be more impressive if Apple can pull that off.

My macbook (/w SSD) is just 1 year old, but I'd be very tempted to trade up if these came true!

How are you going to charge a MBP if it does not have power supply built in? Judging by how often people carry around their power supplies or external disks, one would guess that having the option to replace the optical drive with a power supply or a second storage volume would be popular with these people.

lolwut?

What stats are you talking about? Just because people are buying a computer with an optical drive (~99% of PCs - meaning, not iOS devices, etc.), does not mean that 100% of those people are actually using them (the optical drives, or whatever other componenets for that matter).

I'll say it again, they DO have their function/purpose/whatever. I also would prefer to have one. I'm just saying if the new models are lacking it, that it would NOT be the dumbest idea ever... to have something equally or more useful in it's place, like more storage, or battery life, etc.

The same as people who are buying macbook air, doesnt mean they dont have an external drive at home.

As for stats, i will be providing you one later, i am busy doing something else.

I will be really disappointed if they choose to only go with the Intel HD 2000 (the i3 version) for the 13 inch because it's slower than the current 320M. I would much rather them put AMD graphics in there.

I'm hear texting on my iPhone, while surfing the web on my iPad, and my iMac in the shadow. I have no use for a MacBook pro but just because this is the awsomest MacBook pro ever I want it. Even tho I would buy anything apple related but I really want it. To bad I won't get one but it's nice to dream

If you need additional storage once per week and an optical drive once per month, which one would you prefer to be build in and which to be external?

This is a stupid comparison because picking storage would mean storage only, whereas if you pick optical drive you will have the best of both worlds...BOTH optical drive and storage...

i'm curious to see what they'll do in terms of graphics on the 13". If everything else mentioned here is true, I may trade in my top of the line 15" with one of these babies and im sure some other folk here may do the same thing too.

Likewise. The GPU in the new Macbooks will be the "make or break" point for me.

Im not trying to flame or anything i am just curious, why do you care about the graphics card so much? For what do u use it? Becouse i have the MBP with a 9400m and the 9600gt and i almost never use the Gt.

Blueray is worthless. It's sad how many people are brainwashed into thinking they need it.

+1
I agree.

However, I believe it could be helpful for businesses or something, to have 100gb disposable drives. But for the average consumer, it is not necessary.
