No Apple laptop has a graphics card, therefore there is *no* graphics card involved.

None. Not possible. There is no graphics card on any current or recent Apple notebook.

do you realize how little sense that makes? Obviously every computer EVER has a graphics card. At least if it had a display of any kind.

I really hope not. 16:9 isn't good for anything except watching movies, it's way too short.

I would also hope that will not happen, but as we all know, Apple is obsessed with making their products thinner & smaller with every iteration of their product line whenever possible. :( In the case of the MBPs, further shrinking their thickness seems quite unlikely in the near future. However, there are "tons of room" in the width to shrink if Apple drops the optical drive & go with 16:9 screens.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E200 Safari/6533.18.5)

Any1 know what gpu we will getin the 15-17inch model?

Should be a 525M from NVIDIA or a 6830M from AMD.

I can see you loving the extra cost and the inconvenience to bring an extra drive outside.

Again with this?
Carrying an external hard drive vs an external ODD...
So if you always need the hard drive you always carry it however if you only need the ODD once in a while you only carry it once in a while...

Questions?

Sure you can say you'll never know when you need the ODD to carry it but you most probably always do need the hard drive anyway...

Anyway since Apple is supposed to offer a choice about the ODD and it doesn't really matter what we say here why don't we talk about something more interesting, like the odds of having lightpeak... :apple:

yeah my biggest interest is a redesign, I'm a visual person and I'd love a macbook pro with a solid color, not really fond of the black keys on silver

If iPad gets an event i'm going to be pissed because that means APple is not taking their macbook pro market that seriously.

I don't think that's true. I just think that with the Galaxy S 10.1, the TouchPad, the Flyer, and the Xoom, the right thing to do for apple is focus on the iPad in marketing. Obviously, the MBPs are important. Have you seen how many comments are on these things? :p

So according to that this i3 will run at 2.1Ghz, where as this past MBP 13 had 2.66Ghz albiet C2D but still. Also the graphics on said i3 is 1.1Ghz max and the past nvidia is 2.4Ghz.... Isn't that all around worse??

There's only one SB i3 suitable for the MBP's. The high end 13" will very likely have a 2.3 i5.

I really wish they would put the i7 25w TDP in the 13inch instead of the i3, but knowing Apple it has to be a sliding scale or people will flip their lids.

i3 has no turbo and should use more power, but gotta save money and have that scale, not have the products be the best they can be. Come on Apple, prove me wrong just this time =P

But doesn't many people say the current (almost to be replaced) 13" MBPs contains the obsolete C2D CPUs & demand the latest Core i CPUs? :p At least Apple is positively responding to most people's demands by offering the latest Core i CPUs even if it is a Core i3. No? :p

As much as I would love a 6830m, the nvidia equivalent would be more like the 540m being seen in some SB optimus equipped 15" laptops. I would be much happier with the 540m than a 525m but would probably prefer the ATI. I'm assuming they'll go nvidia since nvidia has developed optimus and even though Apple uses it's own proprietary graphics switching, my guess is it still uses some sort of nvidia technology to help it. Does ATI have realtime graphics switching in any of their lineups yet?

even the first gen i3 @ 2.13Ghz benches better than the 2.66Ghz C2D according to passmark

first gen Intel Core i3 330M @ 2.13GHz -- 1953
Intel Core2 Duo P8800 @ 2.66GHz -- 1873
Intel Core2 Duo P8600 @ 2.40GHz -- 1609
Intel Core i5 520M @ 2.40GHz -- 2335 (currently in the 15" MBP now)

The SB i3 will be faster even at 2.1Ghz. The GPU will be slightly slower though than the 320m. We'll have to see if Apple keeps the GPU or adds other options.

right, no "cards"

He's being facetious about the word 'card'. The GPU is soldered onto the logic board, hence not a separate card.

Right, there's no "card" just a GPU that's either integrated as part of the CPU/chipset that's soldered to the motherboard, or GPU that's a discrete chip that's also soldered to the motherboard.

Odd to hear, though, that it's "facetious" to point out technical inaccuracies here on MacRumours. I'd think that most posters would appreciate gentle guidance when they make misstatements.

Does everyone think these will be available Thursday, or just an announcement for a release weeks from now?

The 540M has a TDP of 35W. The 525M, 6830M and 330M all have a TDP of 23-24W.

As for the graphics switching, Apple uses software based switching so it doesn't matter.

SSD - may be intel SSD also

current MBA at $999 includes 64GB, so $1199 MBP easily fits the bill for SSD.

the CPUs on the MBA is more expensive than on the MBP 13"/15"/17"

so definitely minimum 80GB SSD given, who knows it could be Intel G3 ( billion dollar investment could be @Intel for SSD!!!)
