almost 1,000...

I give it another 4 hours before the 1,000th comment is officially marked on this MBP thread.

do you realize how little sense that makes? Obviously every computer EVER has a graphics card. At least if it had a display of any kind.

you should probably make sure you understand what is being said, and what you reply with before posting. Macbooks dont have graphics cards, yes they can have integrated or discrete graphics solution, but neither of them are on a card which is what the guy was saying. Everything is directly on the motherboard.

EDIT: Just wanna make sure you know I was not trying to be mean or anything, just pointing that out lol :D

- 200-300 g lighter & 10-12 hr battery life is too good to be true

- higher res is normal since MacBook Air got it.
- core i3 on 13" is possible and I hate it.
- Matte screen is possible.
- "no more white MacBook" not this event. They will continue selling it like iPod Classic.
- 8 GB on 17" just pay more money.

I think I'll get a MacBook pro May of next year for my birthday :) 16gb SSD?! No thanks! How about 120gb instead apple...

5 year old C2D more expensive than new Sandy bridge?

1. They aren't 5 years old. SL/SU 9400 models shipped in Q3 '08 ( the basic arch is older but the process and resource sizing are newer than that. )

2. Why yes... the SL/SU 9400 are in the $262-284 range.

and the new Sandy bridge i5s are "...$250, $266, and $225 ..."

So yeah they cost the same. Not sure why folks think Intel puts huge discounts on their "last year " models. The prices don't crater 2-3 years out. You'll find secondary vendors who are dumping them to get them out of inventory, but if you want to buy bulk the list price isn't that much lower.

P.S. A major factor folks are throwing away in MBA 11" to MBP 13" is other component costs (screen , memory ,etc.) differences. [ likely also discrete graphics cost increase if go with Core iX solution for MBP 13" also. ] A base unit with 65GB of SSD would likely mean base price increase as well. A version with a HDD and perhaps a $999 price point would not be surprising if going to dump the MB model.

Yeah but you lose storage capacity. SSD is not worth it yet. I'll wait for the storage size to go up and the price to go down.

HDD play my movies and music just fine. And as for opening and accessing word or excel files, I don't really think SSD offer much benefit over HD.

If the rumors are true, we're talking about a small SSD for the OS itself and the typical HD for the rest of your content. You'll get 50% faster boot time, sub zero latency speed of the OS itself and so on just by having the OS on the SSD.

Those that want the Liquidmetal MBP, you better not drop it.

ROFLMAO. I can imagine dropping it and catching it on the way up. It's not a problem, it's the best feature from Apple, EVAR!

Why is it too good to be true? They may have improved the unibody to be lighter but stronger with a new metal alloy and the battery life is totally possible if Apple came up with a new way to increase the battery density without taking up more space or increasing weight.

The battery technologies as of right now aren't really at the peak. There are still many more technologies that haven't been tapped yet.

As for the core i3, I'm not sure why you would hate it. It's Sandy bridge, it's got hyper-threading and its got a much improved GPU on the CPU die. It's much faster than some of the previous generation i5 chips.

hahaha, love how people are taking these rumors as being final specs lol. Freakin out over small ssd for os, and complainging over other stuff. Just love it haha.

But I must say, if these specs were final, people should probably try to pay attention to the rumor, the 16 gb size wouldnt matter, its not like thats the only storage we would have lol.

I have noticed this ongoing misconception that new processors are going to be dramatically much more expensive compared to their years of consistently falling into nearly the same price points as the predecessors.

I've been content with the original Macbook Pro 1.1 Core Duo for 5 years now, and had an iBook G3 for the 4 years prior. I've been selling Apple's and PC's for a few years now, and once an Apple goes out the door, the customer only comes back in to buy another one. Can't say the same about PC's...

I don't know about everyone else here, but I have been refreshing MacRumors at an unhealthy rate. It's going to be a looong night...

If iPad 2 really is announced next week as well I'll be calling my loan shark...I am such a dweeb...

either way, you should be able to switch out to the new MBP...

So If I just ordered by phone yesterday a new Macbook Pro (I upgraded the memory and had office installed on it) and they told me I would recieve it bewteen March 1-7 does that mean more than likely that they will send me the newer one? Kinda nervous now..

Most likely you are going to get what you orderied

Not necessarily true kitzuki. But to be sure jcpelfrey you should call them up on Thursday after the announcement is official and ask them if they can either switch you out to the newer model or get a full refund; I'm sure Apple will accommodate your request over the phone for the newer system, especially since they said not to expect it to arrive until at least 3/1 anyway, so no real harm waiting until Thursday to see what the dealio is with the announcement.

Good luck!

Metric Pixels

That's a pretty lousy res on the 13".

Sony Vaio Z can manage 1920x1080 on their 13inch model.

Not trying to to flame, just thought screen tech was one of Apples prides.

It's a French source, so you have to convert the pixels from metric to SAE.

The resolution increases as you cross the Greenwich Date Line.

Gary

FYI, if the base is $999, I'm in.

Core i3? Yuck.

That's what I'm running on an iMac I bought in November. It screams, especially compared to the 4-year-old C2D I had in a MacBook Pro. Just because it's not the best doesn't mean it isn't good.

Has anybody turned into a convert of "Ooh, it's nice to have one computer for everywhere" to "Ooh, this iMac rocks at home and I can take an iPod/iPad/iPhone on the go?"

The 10-12 hour battery life just seems to make this rumor not plausible. Please, please prove me wrong Apple.

What's interesting though of the many rumors I've seen, on foreign sites and whatever else, I've read the 12 hour battery on the 13" MBP being the most consistent rumor, from "pictures" and listings, to several other rumors... so I dunno, it could be.

Increased battery life

I have to assume the increased battery life has to do with the SSD battery life. If the most used applications (the OS) require very little power, it's going to last longer, right? And get my 5 most used apps (or my web cache) in that same 16GB and it's really going to fly.

No, most modern laptop drives are pretty light on power usage as well. It would not be enough to give you an extra hour. Even if it is entirely SSD, it still will not give you more than 10 minute at most.

Many of the newer SSDs are a bit more power hungry because of the speed performance. In fact, in some cases, SSD can eat more battery life. The logic is that because it is so fast at processing data, you're using the overall system more than you would with an HD which by itself consume more power than an SSD.

I plan on getting the high end 15, glossy with no optical drive if this is true. I will probably pick up a external drive, but over the years I've come to hate CDs/DVDs, I have so many lying around it's hard to keep track of them. Give me a good NAS that I can access over the I internet as needed, since I'm am around wireless 95% of my day, and I'll be able to make it.

I already have all my DVD's (and music) ripped to ISO's on my current NAS/Media Center, when I buy a new one the first thing I do is rip it before I watch/listen to it. The orginal media gets stored in the closet/attic. I have complete access to the media 95% of the time.

Besides getting rid of optical media is more environmental friendly. Just imagine how many cd-r/DVD-r get sent to the dump each year because they are scratched.

That is probably the hard drive more than anything else.

I think the last one I bought for it was a 7200-rpm drive. But I think more of it is faster CPU, faster bus speeds, better GPU, and the computer is not about to die because of a bad GPU. Oh, I think I have double the RAM now. I really need to see if Apple will give me a gift card. I just have to prove it works for a couple of hours, right? Hell, even if I got a card for the brand new hard disk inside that would be nice.
