So the 13" get's Firewire and Thunderbolt. Sweet! I hope they add some extra stuff to the 15"! From what I get from this, I'm assuming that Mini Display port will be combined with Thunderbolt. So what happens if you're using a monitor? I guess they will be rolling out new monitors so that you can sync your iPad (assuming they will have an adaptor for it- it does say I/O port). This just made my day.

EDIT: my bad... the 13" already has FireWire.. I forgot. haha

Per Engadget

"The highlight is a note (and image, above) seemingly confirming that Apple will implement Intel's Light Peak high-speed interconnect, renaming it the Thunderbolt. Yes, we know there's an HTC handset headed to Verizon with that very same name -- and we've checked the USPTO archives, Verizon's the only tech company with any trademark claim filed for "Thunderbolt" -- but Apple has done weirder things before. "

hope its fake

It's irritating to see a Windows fanboy mention the specs of his computer and say he got it at half the price of an apple... that being said, my plans to switch to a mac from my pretty fast 3 year old Gateway M6850 gaming laptop might be canceled.

No Integrated graphics? Come on! I know you guys enjoy spending top dollar for the OS and the macbook design but I'm gonna call it like it is... a rip off.

Anyways, I hope this is fake. Then again, Apple really disappointed me with the new ipod nano, so I wouldn't let it past them

Lightpeak but no SSD/redesign and for me a step back in graphics?

If this is no joke I will keep my toshiba business laptop...

But I still hope this is some well made fake!

I'm guessing this is the $999 or $1099 model. There will definitely be a version with standard SSD (there is already, but it's expensive in the current version). I'm a bit surprised the 13" didn't lose the optical drive, but then again, perhaps it will be a CTO model.

Core i5 would be nice for the 13". Intel HD is a disappointment, but not unexpected given Intel's settlement with NVIDIA. Most buyers of the 13" Pro don't need the latest and greatest, so in the past that meant pairing an aging CPU with a decent integrated graphics processor. Now, apparently, it means pairing a decent CPU with slower graphics. Both equal an acceptable, albeit less than ideal combination.

Processor is good, the i5 is way better than a C2D.

My concern is the Intel HD, is it better than the Nvidia integrated GPU's?

My guess is that the 15" will have the HD and the Nvidia discreet, like it does now.

The screen should be 1440x900, like the Air.

We need to see some benchmarks on that GPU......

Why only 1280x800 display resolution? The 13" MBA has a 1440x900 resolution display and at MSRP $1299 thats only $100 higher than the rumored base MBP to come out this week.

I hope this is fake.

I waited for this....

They'll probably offer a higher res screen as an extra so I'll grab it there. The GPU is a bit annoying though. :(

There's a horse that's just run in the 2.00 at Ludlow that has a better name than Thunderbolt...

Quickbeam.

I wouldn't get too fussy about the light peak port yet... that photo in the first thread is clearly photoshopped - you can see a line cutting down slightly diagonally through the left USB port from a quick and shoddy photoshop.

Again, why would you cut through the USB port to replace a tiny symbol next to a different port? It makes no rational sense.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I rein supreme as I was RIGHT when I stated they would NOT ditch the ODD!!!!!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

And Thunderbolt sounds damn cheesy!

I'm guessing the ODD is the reason this story was marked a hundred negative clicks?

I've no idea why some people are looking for liquid metal laptops. What benefit would it have over the current AL machines?

people r getting tired of the same design over the years. i for one am glad, my current mbp wont look old :D

I wonder if Apple leaks these specs to make people complain today and stop whining during their "show" and ruin the RDF.

It's a semi-controlled leak to manage expectations. By shipping computers out to retailers, they had to know that someone would open one up and post the specs. If they truly wanted to keep a secret they would have announced it tomorrow with shipping starting next week. Instead, you'll be able to buy one at the store tomorrow.

this implementation would simply SUCK!

It would mean that Apple won't use the standard Light/Copper-Peak Port which was supposed to be physically compatible with a USB Port! It would further mean, that other LightPeak Ports (on PCs and devices) would be different from the one on the Mac. Now why would Apple do that? It would suck for the customer!

I'm sure Apple has thought about that...there will be a $20 "Light Peak" to Mini Display port adapter. We all know how Apple loves to ring up "accessory" sales.

I don't see what the big deal is. They did say that they would no longer offer the white Macbook. So shouldn't everyone be comparing that to this? Of course, there will be an updated 13" to compete greatly with the current one.

Call me crazy, but I'm more concerned with the 15" anyway. That's always been where it's at.

No I don't mind the odd but the graphics are worse than the previous gen...

What a load of crap. That's a Mini Display Port. Totally fake. The pictures are photoshopped.

They've been merged together, look at the photo of the specs from the side of the box:

'Thunderbolt port supports high-speed I/O and Mini DisplayPort devices'
