Concerning the thunderbolt/miniDisplayPort,

You won't have to "choose between a monitor and external peripherals", don't you see? When you plug in your ACD to the thunderbolt port (you know, the new one you just bought to replace your old ACD that doesn't support thunderbolt), then you can use the ports on the side of the monitor for your peripherals. It's so simple! Just make sure you don't deviate from the Apple path!;)

It´s faster in 3dMark06. It´s all i saying. :)

What you dont understand. Is that 3dmark 06 or any for that matter also includes cpu and other hardware into the final score.

the 320m 3dmark benchmark was run on a old generation cpus.

The intel gpu obviously run on sandy bridge cpu's which is why they get a higher 3d mark score.

Cant believe you dont see that.

Look at the games benchmark, that is what matters.

disappointment

I have always been a fan of windows, but recently I have decided to go to "the other side :p" and buy a MacBook Pro. However, I will be buying it with all my savings, and as that is a big financial effort, I really want high value-for-money.
I will be buying the 15".

If there isn't a redesign (or at least liquidmetal), if the thunderbolt port isn't compatible with other types of ports (usb 3.0 and its precedents), if the discrete graphics card isn't upgraded, and if there is no OSX-dedicated SSD, I believe that the upgrade isn't worth it.

Really disappointed, hope this is fake and Apple surprises us with real goodies :D

Otherwise... I will have to remain windows-attached for the next 4/5 years..

UNLESS it's a $999 replacement for the white Macbook. Again, this is the only way these (disappointing) specs would make sense.

Why is it so disappointing? The Intel HD 3000 does better than the 320m available in some of the Macbook Pros plus an i5 processor which is also a definite improvement over the Core2Duo that was available.

We are talking about the low end Macbook Pro here, not the mid-to-high ones. I think you're expecting too much.

You should read it again:

"The base speed and the turbo boost speed of the HD Graphics 3000 depend on the processor"
"Our performance tests with the high clocked mainstream version of the HD Graphics 3000 in quad-core processors showed a performance level on par with the current entry level generations from NVIDIA (e.g. GeForce 310M) and AMD (HD 5450)."

MBP is not getting a quad core, so don't expect on-par performance...

no. the lowest is the 2537M with 1.4ghz. but there are still enough models who are faster... (4 i5 models and 5 i7 models)

The 2537M is slower but actually probably more expensive due to its low-voltage nature (17W TDP vs 35W).

Laaammmmmmmeeeeeee

Not worth getting it :(

It's a base model. The specs aren't bad for its intended purpose. There will be an upgraded 13" with, hopefully, a 1400x900 screen, and there will definitely be more SSD options. It's entirely possible the "MacBook" goes away and the base Pro is the new base notebook in the $999 slot.

The intel hd 3000 is not better. people got to stop posting this.

yes the intel hd 3000 does better in benchmark programs. But that is because its running on the intel cpu, which favors in the final score.

Look at tests like far cry 2, black ops. the 320m is up 50% faster (more fps) then the intel gpu. 50% is a hell of alot.

I've no idea why some people are looking for liquid metal laptops. What benefit would it have over the current AL machines?

 Thank you! I did´t know 3dmark06 was so CPU dependent.

Wow this SUCKS. These specs are akin to an early 2008, middle of the line laptop for every other manufacturer (with the exception of Thunderbolt). Should be priced no higher than $499 (though I think it's safe to assume it will slide into the $999 slot).

Why does Apple hate their customers?

What are you talking about??

This kind of complaining on Apple fansites goes on ALL THE TIME just before new models hit the shelves.

Then Apple goes on to sell them in record numbers.

Just ignore the bellyaching. It doesn't represent market realities.

Were is the i3? (i5 is better ofcourse)

So, nearly al the rumors of last week are no where to be found? no bigger trackpad, no 8/16gb ssd, no i3 and so on.

is the graphics faster or slower? (I hope its faster)

can someone please explain what the displayport hybrid does?

Thanks a lot

(I'm new to this forum, and I also haven't got a mac. But I want one in a shot period of time, suggestions?)

a base model you pay premium for...

It's not that 3dmark06 is CPU dependent, but you are using an integrated chip...

Read this

"The base speed and the turbo boost speed of the HD Graphics 3000 depend on the processor"

Thunderbolt seriously? No..
Take a quick look at my link: http://www.htc.com/us/products/thun...&jsid=20718&&gclid=CJjE47qtnqcCFcZw5Qodbmg-cw
Someone's gotta get sued i guess.. Why in the world would Intel (or Apple) give their newborn technology the same name as a newly released HTC phone?

They did the same with the iPhone (Cisco had a model out with that name although it wasn't a mobile phone), and with the iPad, there it was LG if I remember correctly.

They always seem to resolve these issues quietly before they end up in the courts.

sure, but where is the problem. there is no possibility for an sandy bridge cpu with nvidia chipset. so the chois is / war: still core 2 duo or the new cpu with a little lower gpu but much more batterie life and much faster cpu.
so you are right, some games are not playable on the new macbook pro. but these are not much. and you have still the choice to buy a better macbook pro, so where is your problem?

I wonder if Apple leaks these specs to make people complain today and stop whining during their "show" and ruin the RDF.

Im impressed with the CPU. Didn't see that coming at all. Not a fan of the graphics though as im a bit of a gamer again now that steam and the Mac App store are available to us
