Well here's the deal. The new sandy bridge processors feature the graphics processor built onto the actual CPU. This is supposed to significantly speed up bandwidth. You also have to consider that the FSB is being upped to 1333 from 1033. This computer is going to be significantly faster in both gaming and general tasks than the 2010 Macbook Pro 13". You can count on it.

I went over the bench marks of multiple sites and they all indicated a 3-6 fps drop with the GPU change.

Seriously Same low res screen WTF?

What material is this?

From the reflections it looks like it's still got the protective plastic covering on.

By the way, does anyone have any definite information regarding the number of cores in these news macbook pros?

From my understanding, the Intel press release concerning the Sandy Bridge stated that all SB processors coming out this month are 4 core while the 2 core processors are coming out in a few months.

Could you imagine if the new 13" mbp had a 4 core I5. That would be too sweet.

I don't think white MacBook replacement would get i5.

A few questions:

I picked up a MacBook Pro last week and then learned of the refresh. I had been planning to swap it out for the new one. Here are the specs of my current one:

13”
2.66 GHz C2D
4GB 1066 MHz Ram
320GB SATA @ 5400

If these released specs are true – I am wondering if an upgrade is worth it. Honestly, I will probably rarely use “Thunderbolt.”

Is a 2.3 GHz i5 going to be considerably faster than what I have now? It sounds like the intel graphics card may be worse (or at least not that much better) than the Nvidia 320. Is this correct?

I hope these specs are for the base model. I would love to get a higher resolution screen, SSD, a little lighter, etc.. Maybe I will have to look at the 15” models.

I have the same situation but i bought mine from a reseller (MacAuthority because there is no apple store where i live) so i cant return mine.

I put it on craigslist this morning hopefully someone will bite.
but im still undecided especially with the intel gpu LOL

I think i may wait till next year when there may be a true redesign.

If this is of the $999 option, the lower res screen and absence of SSD makes perfect sense. I think a lot of people may be jumping to conclusions about the Pros.

I see it this way...

$999: 11" MBA (replaces white macbook)

$1099: MBP 13" i5 (The one in this thread)

$1399: MBP 13" (The one you really want... faster i5, increased display rez, etc.)

BTO option for the 13" will be for matte screen. (+ $100?)

I think all MBP13" have the 16gb SSD for the OS. (It's hard to describe that on the box).

Okay so I just made an account here on these forums to say what I felt like I needed to say. Okay so for one, that foil means nothing. It doesn't make it a fake. It could just protective plastic.

Secondly, for the people that are complaining about the Intel HD graphics being a STEP-DOWN from what you already have, the new Intel Sandy Bridge architecture brings with it an updated version of Intel HD. Basically all this means is, they SERIOUSLY improved their integrated stuff. In fact, it beats out a AMD Radeon HD5450 and can beat out the 320m and 330m built into the pros some of the time.

Why only 1280x800 display resolution? The 13" MBA has a 1440x900 resolution display and at MSRP $1299 thats only $100 higher than the rumored base MBP to come out this week.

I hope this is fake.

Don't be surprised if there is a $100 option for a nicer screen. Also don't be surprised if the base "MacBook" goes the way of the dodo. The specs we see could well be for the new $999 model. The Pro currently starts at $1199. For that price (or perhaps $1299) we may well get 1400x900, a small SSD for the OS, and some of the other predicted goodies. It appears rumors of a 3.7lb 13" Pro were optimistic, though.
