Again, it is believable if you consider this leak to be the $999-replacement of the white Macbook. If it's supposed to be the $999-entry level MBP, it's a huge rip-off.

What's the difference as long as it's $999?

Liquid Metal was not at all expected, only people asking for it. But not for Blu-Ray and USB 3.0. I don't know how 1200$ looks entry-level for you. And for a computer thats supposed to be 'Pro' it should be there.

Put yourself in context, this is Apple and you're paying for a lot more things than in ANY other brand (specs+design+prestige+support).

And c'mon, Bluray? who the hell uses that thing anyway??? Apple is clearly in It's way to eliminate optical support, and that is more than ok for me.

$1000+ for this crap?

No wonder Apple has been stuck at ~10% market share for so long. Given the inferior computers the keep putting out, they shouldn't expect a big jump in those numbers.

And they are worth 10 times what Dell is. Apple trades volume for margin. Other manufacturers make next to nothing on their computers. Apple's margins are over 30%.

I highly doubt the legitimacy of this, mainly because of the screen resolution.

They put 1440x900 in the 13" MBA but stay the same in the new MBP? I highly doubt that.
I heard from somewhere that the MBA panels are not as high-quality as the one used in MBPs, even though they are not as sharp as the MBA ones.

Intel on the box

As for the intel logo on the box I have my own theory. It would seem that apple and intel have been working closely on this one as intel is holding a light peak event tomorrow the same day as the rumored relase. It seams likely that apple will have a strong presence at the event and be the lightpeak launch partner. In return intel gets put on the box. That's my thinking though.

So if this proves true, and you want to use an external monitor and Lightpeak peripherals, you'll have to use some kind of Y cable with a minidisplay port adapter on one side to connect up to whatever your monitor offers (which probably isn't MDP) and a light peak adapter on the other side (since the connector isn't MDP shaped)...

Makes sense.
Mini-DisplayPort was the safest bet but it does mean new monitors, again.

I can't wait for Steve to just retire.
Dell's updated XPS systems showed up. It was surprising to see the fastest dual core Core i7 as the entry level for the 15 inch model.

Sandy Bridge is SUPPOSED to have USB 3.0 built-in natively.
Rumored for the 6 Series, not realized for P67/H67, and listed again for Z68.

Maybe it still means with a third party controller.

If this is spec of new one to come than probably I'm better off keeping my 2010 MBP, thanks Apple for saving me money.

2.04 kgs? Oh my, what happened to the supposedly lighter weight macbook pro? This is dissapointing...

For some reason I doubt that Apple would downgrade the current 320M to Intel's HD 3000 graphics.

320M to HD3000 is a sideways move.

I believe the thinking here is the i5 with HD3000 was better bang for the buck compared to an i3 with a low-end dedicated gpu. This is also influenced by battery life, heat management and available space inside the case.

Apple couldn't use 320M or its successor because INtel shut out 3rd party chipsets from working with SAndy Bridge cpus.

Hmm...why don't some one call Steve Jobs and find out...talk to him with anger so if it's un-true he will say :D

I would like to point out that if Dell can fit a dedicated GPU in the Alienware m11x, Apple could fit one in the 13" MBP. The question is if they want to.

lightpeak makes no sense if it's going to be through mini displayport. besides, there won't even be any lightpeak peripherals yet.

I agree, one with three MDP ports on the back instead of USB2, or one with some kind of uber proprietary USB/TB combination port.

I'd love to see where Apple would go with this if the rumor holds true.

Don't forget the price . . . which I think was around $1299 or something for a 15" with the fastest and most up-to-date Core i7.

You shouldn't even be thinking about upgrading IMHO. If there is TB ports, and you need the bandwidth than maybe . . . . but if you are content with FW800 & USB 2.0, then wait another two or three years.

Or D) the old and new MBP simply have the same weight, same body. Only the innards changed. Sound like Occam's razor to me.

Your option D would be the same as my Option B which states "The french leak lied" because the french people were the ones who said that the weight was decreased in the new MBP. That would be why I said that either this leak is a lie or the french leak is a lie. The 3rd option would be that both leaks are lies. No point in making an option D that is the same as my option B lol.

Or it might be even simpler. As developer/owner of the technology Intel may simply require that every company that uses it puts a logo on the box :D

Yeah so what you are you complaining about then?

Like I said, it's underpowered...
Yes it has a big CPU but overall it's gonna feel slower than the Air in daily basic computing tasks (because of the slow hard drive) and it's gonna be at best performing the same in games as last years model.
It's only gonna be better in some specific CPU intensive apps.

I really want a MBP because of the form factor and the features not because of the specs but somehow I was still hoping for something decent...
I guess I'll have to consider which is better for my use: this with a student discount or a refurbed 2010 one.

It's just...a very underwhelming update :(

Intel owning both standards (USB and TB) it is unlikely that Apple may come up with anything proprietary there (except for advertising)

I'm sorry, but I cannot accept that these specs are real. I've posted a somewhat longwinded explanation why on my blog. I'll post the main reason here.

The specs list ‘dual-core Intel Core i5 processor; 3MB shared level 3 cache’. This doesn’t conform to the wording of the iMac Tech-Specs, which does not feel the need to mention that it is Dual-Core. The only model which lists the number of cores is the Quad-Core i7 iMac. In my opinion, it makes sense to mention that fact here, as Dual-Core has become common and people expect it now-a-days. Quad-Core, not so much, and it’s a good idea to draw attention to that fact. Also; the 3MB Cache strikes me as strange. None of Intel’s i5 processors with a 3MB Cache run at 2.3GHz. In fact, the only i5 processor that runs at that speed is the Quad-Core “Sandy Bridge” processor with a 6MB cache.

oh... you are wrong, becouse there is the core i5 2410M with the same specs as the leaked pictures.

and... there is no other possibility for apple in the 13'' to do it without an intel gpu. only with an dedicated gpu-card and this is for the 15 or 17''.
