Does anyone know at which time the intel presentation will start?

It's not really a prevention from what I have heard. It's just supposed to be some sort of announcement

while it's true intel may just be requiring a logo now a closer relationship could be the reason it's been added now.

In the battle between the 13" Air and this upgraded Pro I'm not sure the Pro is going to win out...

really? cuz no way I'll shell out $500 for lightpeak and an aluminum case.

1280x800? netbooks have better
I can get a mid range i5 is most laptops now for under $800
I can get MUCH better GPU's in machines under $800.

Can you tell me what HW on the new 13in is worth another $500? because because CPU/RAM/HD/GPU is 75% of the hardware

Go get yourself a Windows laptop and shut up. People buying Macs are total sheep. Leave us alone. baa. baa. baaaa.

Intel owning both standards (USB and TB) it is unlikely that Apple may come up with anything proprietary there (except for advertising)

Intel doesn't solely own both standards, as I recall about 8 or so companies make up the owners for USB, and TB/LP is a joint venture of Apple and Intel . . . from what I remember anyhow.

But, I don't think Intel made the LP ports to look exactly like, and fit inside of a standard USB 2.0 port.

So I don't know how Apple would use this TB in regards to their ACDs and their extra USB ports.

If the rumor hold true, then Apple will have to make new displays with TB ports on the back along with USB ports.

Like I said, it's underpowered...
Yes it has a big CPU but overall it's gonna feel slower than the Air in daily basic computing tasks (because of the slow hard drive) and it's gonna be at best performing the same in games as last years model.
It's only gonna be better in some specific CPU intensive apps.

I really want a MBP because of the form factor and the features not because of the specs but somehow I was still hoping for something decent...
I guess I'll have to consider which is better for my use: this with a student discount or a refurbed 2010 one.

It's just...a very underwhelming update :(

Signed, I'm exactly in the same situation and think the same.
These changes are so disappointing.

Still hope that there is a 1% chance, that they are not true...

I would like to point out that if Dell can fit a dedicated GPU in the Alienware m11x, Apple could fit one in the 13" MBP. The question is if they want to.

Please tell me you are joking...

The alienware is significantly taller than any MBP. If I wanted a hunk of plastic that a company stuffed full of hardware, didn't care about build quality, ran Windows, and was the height of Webster's dictionary, I'd be a Dell, HP, Gateway, Alienware customer.

As it is, I will GLADLY pay a premium for a solidly built laptop that runs OS X.

People comparing this to what Acer (or alienware) has to offer makes me giggle.

And so begins the wrist-slashing depression that finishes the manic cycle of every Apple product update.

Dreams->Hopes->Expectations->Demands->Disappointment->Anger->Depression->(repeat)

You guys never manage to disappoint. ;)

You'll be able to get an SSD as an option. I'm guessing that it will be a lot cheaper than the SSD option in the current 13" model. Believe me. Dollar for dollar you'll be able to get a far more powerful 13" MacBook Pro than MacBook Air after tomorrow.

Until we know the full specs tomorrow (including the options) a 128GB SSD will be a $250 option, or perhaps standard on an upgraded 13" model that perhaps gets the 1400x900 screen.

The Rev D MacBook Air looked like an underwhelming update the day before its release, too, but once we knew the real details it became an exciting update.

This would not get me into the "buy it" line. I'll keep what I've got and wait for the Air update later this year.

this site usually has quality "rumors".

This is pure page-2 crap.

What are you talking about? Nothing outlandish, a very realistic looking picture of the outside of the box. This is as close to concrete as rumors get.

Get a grip.

Don't be rude, he just gave you facts and they are true. I will not judge apple yet, but if this spec to a price around 1100$ is true, it's just sad and disappoining...

so in what way have all these been CONFIRMED? I don't get what the article is saying...

It's nice to see we're at least entertaining people in the process :D

Lucky for me I just bought my 13" MBP last Wednesday. All I'll have to do is swap out the one I just bought for the new one tomorrow. :D

Don't forget the price . . . which I think was around $1299 or something for a 15" with the fastest and most up-to-date Core i7.
Starting at US$1049 for now on the 15 inch one. The XPS 17 does dip lower but you start off with the Core i5 2410M at 2.3 GHz for $899. It is the display they are selling you on that model.

I wonder what the "Better" 13" Macbook model will be like. New processors and a combo port are not all that interesting compared to some of the other rumors.

HP and Lenovo still have to bring their dual-core Sandy Bridge lineup onto the field as well. Though entry quad core OEM the Core i7 2630QM is making a very strong showing and it does price very favorably against dual core processors. (~$300 or even less.) Quad core notebooks starting at US$900 (or less...) are going to be much more common with Sandy Bridge and with fewer limitations given the transition to 32nm and the onboard IGP.

you can also buy an ssd for the macbook pro, or use the macbook air. or wait for a macbook air with core i cpu... where is the problem?

Please tell me YOU are joking. Thickness has nothing to do with it: the 15" MBP is the same thickness as the 13" and Apple can fit a GPU in there...

Edit: and the m11x is 1/3rd of an inch thicker. lol hyperbole

The base Pro will still look weak because it will ship with a 320GB HDD. However, upgrade to a 128GB or 256GB SSD and the story changes dramatically. I'm guessing they will be reasonably-priced CTO upgrades.

Perfect Sense

This leak makes perfect sense if it is for the new $999 MacBook.

I expect a more expensive 13" MacBook Pro that has the 1400x900 display, 16GB mSATA SSD, a better/bigger HD, and a little bit faster processor. Otherwise I will be a little disappointed.

Also the inclusion of the Thunderbolt on the miniDisplayPort makes sense. The Apple cinema display will be updated, so instead of having 3 connectors (Power + mDP + USB) you will now have two (Power + Thunderbolt/mDP). The new displays will include electronics to route sound, iSight, and USB ports over Thunderbolt/LightPeak.
