Hope the HD3000 combined with the i5 improves graphics overall. Would be very disappointing if they took a step back.

questions??

i havent been on all day..whats going on? what is new? is this the new macbook pro? if so this is dissapointing..

1. sandy bridge is the first generation with integrated gpu. it isn't possible (it doesn't make sence) to creat an graphic chipset for it. you have no qpi or hypertransport on sandybridge-chips. and you habe the integrated gpu in the chip. so if nvidia would build an chipset, you have both. and this makes less sence.
2. there is no licens-problem with intel, nvidia is allowed to do it (on 11.01.2011 they endet the lizenswar). but nvidia said, that they won't build chipsets for intel.

so we must live with the integrated gpu and for the thermal-desing and the batterie life this makes much sence.

Point 1 makes sense. :)

However, didn't Nvidia already decided to get out of business long before Intel end their "war" with Nvidia? So at the end of the day, I think it was too late for Nvidia to turn around their decision to go back to the chipset business again & the conclusion of the spat only makes Intel look good but if they had not started their "war" in the first place, Nvidia would have continued to make chipsets & who knows. They may be able to make a very special dedicated GPUs (similar to their integrated solution like the 320m) for their chipsets that hold the Core i CPUs.

The Apps..
1. iLife Apps
2. Campfire client propane
3. Automator scripts
4. Mail.app
5. Omnifocus
6. Textmate

The UI..
1. Too many to list

The Stability..
1. Hard to quantify

The Security
1. No AV and no Virii in 15+ years

Anyway, I obviously appreciate the OS ;). I would just love some competition on the HW. At a certain point we are looking for the benevolence of Apple - and they are looking at their bottom line ;)

i love how mac fanatics talks about windows. it feels like the last version of windows they tried was 95 or maybe 98.

Have had my windows pc on for 2 months, never crashed, dunno how you get virus or trojans, never had any, maybe its because of things people download.

I love osx and windows 7, i just mac fanatics bashing windows when they havnt tried it for years.

Lightpeak but no SSD/redesign and for me a step back in graphics?

If this is no joke I will keep my toshiba business laptop...

But I still hope this is some well made fake!

SSD is expensive and will likely be an upgradable option. Also the Intel HD 3000, according to notebookcheck.net, is as good as the (Geforce G210M) or The (ATI HD 5470) and should match the current GPU in the 13" MBP's which is the 320m.

The GPU is built into the CPU, reducing head room and probably providing a very noticeable increase in battery life. According to notebookcheck.net, old games should play well on high and new games should play well at low with this card. They were pretty impressed as this card is several times faster than the last iteration of the Intel HD series GPU.

Again, notebook check indicates this card competes on the same level as the 320m in current MBP's if not better. This is HOWEVER completely dependent on how apple uses the GPU, because the GPU has the ability to be scaled from 300mhz to 1300mhz(thats pretty damn fast).

What I do not like is the fact that those are "usb 2.0" ports. That bothers me alot considering some computers are now shipping with usb 3.0. The light peak technology by default will have a usb design, so its possible that apple could include it in the USB ports but there is no mention of that anywhere on the spec sheet that was released.

BTW, the possibilities for light peak are VERY extensive. With light peak you can have Video, Audio, and I/O action one single port because of how fast it is. They are literally using optical technology in the computer hardware, kind of like the fiber technology being used in broadband upgrades across the US.

Youtube light peak for a taste. they have been working with intel on this since 2007 if I remember right.

There is a difference between having an opinion and whining.

Whining isn't allowed. YOu even admitted you were whining. :D

Uninformed opinions aren't allowed either especially ones that contain lots of whining.

And we all can see the tech that will eventually come to the $1200 MBP pricepoint way before it ever gets there. So when folks point it out it just comes across as whining.

I'll admit whining but not uninformed opinions.
I've been following everything leading to this refresh and hardware news in general pretty closely and I don't think it's unreasonnable at all to expect a dedicated GPU and 1440x900 display for that $1200 price point.

Now it is what it is and like you said, we don't always get what we want so... :p

Why wouldn't they just go to HDMI? It's slim and gets over 3gbps doesn't it?

I dont get it, why are people like you still clinging on to that freaking HDMI port? Just buy a mini-DP - HDMI cable for 10 bucks at bestbuy or whatever. No need to have multiple ports that does the same job, wasting space and stuff....

You will be dissapointed. the benchmark for hd3000 is running with a i7 quad core sandy bridge, remember i5 is slower, and its 50% slower on call of duty black ops, running a last gen core 2 duo with a 320m

I've never seen so many people throw a product under the bus before it is even released. Haha, take a chill pill for goodness sakes. Literally none of you know how this computer will perform. Wait for it to be released and get some performance numbers out there, then bitch as much as you want. As far as the resolution, guarantee the upgraded 1440 X 900 will be a BTO option. Maybe this opens up the possibility for a matte screen BTO option as well? If the new 13" has an i5 that is pretty cool also. Let's just take a step back and wait a couple days to figure out what this thing will really do.

Has Apple Trademarked "Thunderbolt"? If they haven't yet it could be a sign that the leaked pics are fake. Also, why is the box so dirty and beat-up? Other questions linger as well such as the CPU imbalance, odd/non-standard wording of specs, and poor quality photos (honestly, my old 3G iphone takes better photos. Why do these photos suck so hard?). If this is indeed true, we can only hope that it is the MacBook replacement because it indeed a fine replacement for the Macbook. That being said, if the upgraded 13", 15", and 17" pros all are similar with little spec bumps and light peak then it's a total bust.

Honestly, I'm just breathing a giant sigh of relief right now, because these specs are actually usable for me. As of yesterday, I was hearing i3 with dropped Firewire. Seeing as I use all Firewire audio devices, and my audio processing devours CPU speed, I was having second thoughts about this. I don't play games, I don't need a high end GPU. I also need drive space. Even 320GB is a bit too low, and I'll probably have to upgrade to 500GB or 1TB, but some people have been praying for a 120GB SSD, and that would have killed it for me. Everyone has their needs, and I'm sorry that you're preferred specs didn't make the table.

As for those complaining that it didn't get a redesign... I have little sympathy. WHO CARES? They're beautiful as they are, and they're really speced well IMO.

The only thing that does bewilder me is the resolution. That doesn't make much sense IMO.

Here's my prediction: This is the new MacBook. The 13" MacBook Pro has the higher resolution display and a 16GB SSD OS drive. When you approach it at that angle, this thing is probably pretty sick, and everyone will get their wish. Everyone except those wanting a dedicated graphics GPU in a 13". We all knew that was impossible.

rev 1 of lightpeak is crap, it lacks proper bandwith.
hd 3000 is NOT as good as 320m, so you will se a fps decrease.
the benchmarks show 320m up to 50% faster then with a sandy bridge i7 quad core with a hd3000 igp.
So get your facts straight

And how can you say when even the site says it compares to 210m, how is that the 320m? Jesus.

Agree. x1000

Intel HD3000 makes sense - that's what's in Sandy Bridge. No?

If it's true, it's a pretty smart move to put LightPeak and DisplayPort together - it neatly sidesteps the issue that Intel GPUs lack of DP1.2 compatibility.

The new MacBooks won't get an event because hardly anyone buys them anyways. Like it or not but Apple has become an iPhone, iPod (touch), iPad only company recently.

You sure about that?

The last I read was that MBPs were selling like hotcakes & Apple were breaking records after records in terms of the number of MBPs sold per quarter...

i love how this eventthing seems to not even MENTION the mbp..all about the ipad as usual

Yeah, this is a problem with distorted perceptions. The mobile market is still rapidly growing with lots of market share fluctuation. People change devices every 1 or 2 years.

The PC market is much more mature, but apple is still growing 20% in it year over year. People change computers anywhere from every 2 to 5 years. They are not comparable.

I agree that worse comes to worse, the 1440x900 screen resolution will be available as a CTO. I guess maybe the 1280x800 resolution as standard is meant to cater & appeal to all the senior citizens & in most cases, soccer moms? :p Just kidding on the soccer moms part. :D

27" iMac, 2.8 GHz i5, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, ATI 5750
13,3" Macbook Pro, 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, NVIDIA 320M
iPad 64 GB - iPhone 3GS 32GB

27" iMac, 1 TB HDD...Awesome.

You Have Great Gadget Henrikrox :D

I hope the spec bumps in the other MBPs are more impressive, because the model that's been revealed is seriously underwhelming imo.

What this probably means is that 6-8 months from now, the MBPs will get a larger overhaul, with some of the stuff that was rumoured this time around.
