To the best of my knowledge Intel has neither launched or announced a 2nd generation Core i5 processor at 2.3 Ghz.. I don't believe this is real, and I would be shocked to see no SSD boot drive on all the models.

So you would be shocked not to see some random internet rumored feature on a MBP?

The mini display port also functioning as Light-Peak, IMO is a stupid move what about external display, projectors, etc. if you need to use your Light-Peak accessory, assuming there will be any during the products lifetime with a mini display port connector other than maybe iOS devices..
get a hub?

its funny how many ppl are missing the point of this notebook..

this is a lowend macbook pro which is replacing the white macbook, thats why it has the specs lowered. I am assuming this will be priced lower than the air too or else its pointless buying this over Air (899 may be).

Either way, I dont care - as I am looking for a 15''.

Some of you guys will defend apple to the death no matter what happens. Pathetic....

I don't get why everyone is so pissy. This seems like a pretty great low-end computer, espcially for $999-$1099. It's not like these specs are for the high-end 15-inch MBP.

i5 2410M FYI. Just google for it.

All I know is that I really want to get my hands on a brand new Macbook pro tomorrow or I think Im going to go insane

I suggest you take your own advice. The HD 3000 (with a quad core, granted) is faster in many games.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4084/intels-sandy-bridge-upheaval-in-the-mobile-landscape/5

The average of these benchmarks shows the 3000 is faster as well.

YEs, its a quad core, not a low end i5 dual core. How can you even compare the two. with a quad core its not even better then a 320m with core 2 duo.

Dont you think the quad core are helping those bencmarks a tiny bit;) so stupid.

So if there's no MacBook and it's going to be replaced with MacBook Pros why don't you get rid of the "Pro" part and just call them all MacBooks?

This computer goes to 11.

this is kinda stupid ... lets say i ever get a external "thunderbolt" hdd and want to watch something over the display port (which is the same slot) on my display ... i'm kinda screwed

Like Firewire, Thunderbolt is designed to be daisy-chained. So if you've got your display plugged in, you plug the device into the display, and another device into that device, etc. Since Light Peak is so flexible, you'll be able to soon find adapters for eSATA, USB 3, and just about anything else. And you'll be able to plug all of those devices into a single Thunderbolt port.

this is a lowend macbook pro which is replacing the white macbook

This is BS rumor coming from a french rumor site that also stated
- no more white MacBook (Apple goes back to two lines of 13" inchers)
- 16 GB SSD mSATA drives on all models to store the system
- Core i3 and third USB port on the 13" model
- Matte screen option on the higher-end 13"
- Option to replace the SuperDrive with a SSD on the 15 and 17" models
- HD screens on all models : 1440x900 on the 13", 1680x1050 on the 15"
- 200 to 300 grams lighter : 1.8 kg for the 13", 2.3 kg for the 15", 2.65 kg for the 17"
- Better battery life : 12 hours on the 13", 10 hours on the 15"
- 8 GB of RAM on the 17"

We have already dispelled the bold text.

I think it's safe to assume that the rest of their rumor holds little veracity.

Eh?!

I cant believe what I am reading from some folks on here.....

If what is being posted is true about the upgrade, and I have no doubt it is correct, then whats everyones problem?

People were paying the same money for a C2D based 13" MBP last year, and lots of people complained that is should have been at least an i3. Many said that wouldn't be possible due to heat sink issues, but now Apple have managed to fit in an i5 and lots of people are still moaning?

What do people want from Apple? Its a premium, well made product. If you want a cheap i5 laptop go and buy a plastic bodied windows machine and tell me its as good.

Bored of the speculation, it'll be announced soon enough - if you need one, buy it!

Rant over!

I wonder if there is still an system-SSD? Either way looks like a nice update.

Too bad I can't get one! Next year's will be even better, though. :p

Dual Core i5?

I thought that sandy bridge i5 processors were quad-core only? A dual-core i5 sandy bridge sounds bogus.

YEs, its a ****ing quad core, not a low end i5 dual core. How can you even compare the two.

It's easy. In game benchmarks, the CPU only makes a significant difference when the GPU is not the bottleneck (i.e. the difference between 120 fps and 150 fps). Consequently, dual-cores with the same IGP will have very similar FPS performance.

with a quad core its not even better then a 320m with core 2 duo.

Yes, it is. The benchmarks show that it is better on average. Those are modern games that people are playing. If you have links to benchmarks which disproves, please provide.

yeah you are absolutely right - its unbelievable!! They buy every ****ing **** and are happy...

I hope this is the spec of a very very very low priced macbook, but I want a high end 13" notebook. The resolution is crap, I hope we will get better news tomorrow otherwise I am going to buy a 13" vaio with Full Hd and 1.4 kg!!! I can live with win7 its not too bad.

it is ok for $999-$1099 if you consider the fact it is an apple product. however, the price is way higher in europe (they usually just change the currency symbol and leave the numbers).

Good luck with that mate, but look at the 2009 and 2010 line of 13" MBP's they are never as highly spec'd as the 15" and 17"........enjoy your Vaio!

lol @ the dreamers who thought apple would push out a crazy $1000 base notebook.

i only have $1000 but i expect:
-GPU that can handle ALL of my extreme gaming needs!
-SSD!
-HD SCREEN!
-AND MUCH MORE!

get real (or try dell). this is a low end 13 inch macbook. specs look fine. if you want better specs, be prepared to spend more money.

if these specs are true, then maybe the 15 or 17" will get the i7 quad core chips!
