There goes your battery life though when you put the dedicated gpu in it running at a higher resolution.
And if it was as easy as just popping in a gpu inside the chassis in a minute then I'm sure they would offer a dedicated gpu option. I don't think it is that easy. Probably requires a different internal design. Another assembly line at the factory maybe? Another model for retail to stock and learn about?
All for what? The few gamers that want to buy 13" mbps for $1500 to play Windows games who just refuse to step up to the 15" MBP?
First, it's not that I refuse to "step up" to the 15". If you check my sig, you'll see I got a 15" MBP when they released the 9600 cards. The 9600 *was* a decent GPU. The thing is, for a laptop that I use every day for work and school, I hate the 15" and 17" form factors. I'd personally buy an Air in a second if it could handle my work load; but in reality, it struggles a bit.
So, the 13" MBP is just about the perfect size/performance. The *only* thing holding it back is the screen and GPU. I'm not asking for a badass, top-of-the-line card; I want a step up. A GT330, maybe. A 335 would be GREAT, but I know that it just wouldn't work with the thermal limits of the chassis.
Yeah, it might hurt battery a bit; but that's why we have Optimus now. Just want to type on Word and browse the net? Enjoy about 12 hrs of battery? When I need to spend the day in Photoshop and Illustrator, I could expect a solid 7 or 8 hours out of it. But, in the cases when I'm away from my gaming desktop, or want to go to a LAN party with my buddies, I could grab my small 13" MBP, and enjoy some L4D2, Black Ops, and Battlefield for 4 hours or so.
Secondly, while I agree in its current iteration, just throwing a different GPU in the model would likely be difficult and require increased lines/manpower. But, for all the accolades and praise Apple gets for their engineering abilities and designs; you'd think they could have nipped the problem in the bud from the beginning.
Let me say, I'm as big of a fan of Apple as anyone here (well, almost.

). And I understand the whole "Well, Apple won't ever put a good GPU in the 13", so just deal with it."
But, whhhhhyyyy? Charge me $200 for a $40 upgrade. I honestly don't care. And, judging from this thread, there's a HUGE market for getting a decent GPU in the 13". Anecdotal, I know, but I'm sure I could convince a few of my friends to get a MBP if they started actually caring about what GPUs they put in their computers.
