Am I the only one more intrigued by what a "FaceTime HD Camera" means? It could simply be a rebrand of the iSight, but I think that had already been done (and as "FaceTime Camera," sans "HD"). Does this mean the Macs will finally get a camera with a respectable resolution?

iSight was already rebranded FaceTime Camera. It sounds like Apple is FINALLY using a HD camera.

Is it me or is the early adoption of ThunderBolt insane? With all that I have read it appears that this is a half step to the ultimate goal of LightPeak adoption. ThunderBolt is copper whereas LightPeak will be fiber once adopted. I see no backwards compatibility here unless I have missed something.

Also there is no hardware for it.

Can anyone stop me from refreshing this page and the mainpage? MR got quite a lot of page hits from me today! :D

IDK if I can sleep tonight...

Do you think March 2nd's event will mention anything about the Pros?

10 Mb/s is nothing to sneeze at. The alternative would be USB 3 which is half the speed.

they HAVE to not just because a large part of the population will be dissapointed..but because assuming they come out tomorrow there will be major talking..

The public wants an ODD-less MBP with SSD, Light Peak and priced under $1K.

Do you know why apple has chosen to turn their light peak into a display port look alike? I think they are going to emphasis there thunderbolt on monitors and such with a minor on data, while INtel uses it to push data (hence the USB 3 hybrid ) IMO this way apple will use the thunderbolt tech to bolster there mobile technology. and ultimatly to push there living room ambitions. ( why would they push such great tech in the form of the existing displayport.)

Lightpeak paired with no SSD?

Is it just me, or does it make no sense what-so-ever that you would have Lightpeak on a machine that doesn't have an SSD? The limiting factor would be the harddrive would it not? Seems fishy...

edit: for some reason I mixed up internal and external SSDs, my bad. But still, lightpeak would be good for external hard drive solutions, but how many external SSD solutions are really out there? Unless it has some other great uses besides external hard drives, but I don't know what any of them are.

1. No, current MDP will not be Thunderbolt compatible.

2. You daisy chain devices together in order to attach more than 1 thing to the MDP/TBP port.

So now that I've got this refurb ACD should I seriously consider returning it? I don't need to be cutting edge but since I am within my return window should I consider it? As it stands it can only operate as a display and with no additional port it can't be daisy chained. This is something I don't plan on replacing with any frequency so if in 6months time it uses up the only Thunderbolt port and can only be used as a monitor maybe it should go back.

Thoughts?

maybe thunderbolt carries over the same high speeds through the usb ports on your acd?

This is the photo from the original post, magnified by 200% and sharpened in photoshop.
Note the two distinct lines that appear. (i saw them right away)

They would never exist in a unedited photo. Im not quite sure why the person who made this had to splice two or three images together anyway, but they did.

I don't entirely see what you're trying to point out on the right side but the left side is likely just the plastic covering that typically comes on macbooks/macbook pros when first opened. That would also explain the apparent reflectivity of the area to the right of that line.

I set up one of those new HP Envy laptops for a client at work the other day and it had one of the worst keyboards/touchpads I've ever used in over a decade of using laptop computers. Yeesh.

This could be interesting, it's the thunderbolt port I'm interested in.

Yeah? You must think the current Apple keyboards are the worst too, because they're just about exactly the same.

Touchpad preference is personal. Works just fine for me. I don't need gimmicky multi-touch.

Is anyone else so excited that they're skeptical of it coming out tomorrow? I know I am :O

same. i think its prolly not gonna get released tmrw. even if it does, i know i m gonna be dissapointed. i hope they didnt do the same crap on the 15'' as they did on the 13''

Maximum write speeds of typical HDDs are in the ballpark of 50-100MB/s, and I believe SATA can handle up to 150MB/s.. So my question is, if Lightpeak is being used on external hard drives mainly, what is the point if all hard disk drives these days to slow to get any benifit from Lightpeak? I guess they are geared up to support future external SSDs, but still, seems pointless, which common user uses external SSD hard drives?

Not sure what other types of products LIghtpeak will be used for, but I envision storage solutions to be the primary one.
