An i3 or i5 for the 13" MBP would be more than enough, and let me tell you that the 15 and 17 inch models were kind of updated like 4 months ago. So there's really no need for SANDY bridge, not "sanday" , its not like they are being built every sunday.

You are right,

I have 6 month old i7 2.66mh, 4 GB Ram (wish i bought the 8GB)
SSD 128GB (wish i bought the SSD 256GB)
17"

Love it my 1st Apple

an IBM user,

got this from NewEgg today. this will probably delay the new Macbooks.

Hi Fans & Customers,

We want you to know that we are fully aware of the Intel "Sandy Bridge" chipset issue. For those of you who do not know, Intel has identified a chipset design error and is working on a solution.

As we wait for official feedback from Intel, we would like to assure everyone that we always stand by our customers 100%. We want you to be able to shop at Newegg with the confidence that we will always resolve these situations for you. We will be in touch shortly to discuss the next steps and how we may best assist you.

Do you think it's worth me waiting to purchase a MBP or buy one when I have the money, which would be in a couple of weeks?

I would like to have the performance upgrade etc but my computer now is terrible and as I speak I am using the Macs at college and I really want one :p

agreed, finally something not related to carrier companies or anything ios, ipod, ipad, iphone!! this is nice to read

I'm terribly upset with Apple over being locked into the Mac App store after the latest software update to my new MBP.

Then to make matters worse I read rumors of elements of iOS already about to be incorporated in the next MBP. Apple seems determined to make their computers into appliances.

After years as a loyal Apple customer, I'm watching them destroy a great line of computers all because they've become so greedy & self serving. I could see this coming slowly but surely as they changed the name of the company. Made the batteries captive. Introduced pentalobe screws and now the ultimate screw job... iOS

Hey genius, the 13" didn't use the Arrendale processors because Apple couldn't use an integrated nvidia gpu with them. They went for more graphics power over more processing power. Why would Apple renege on that now? You don't make any sense.

Also, adding a single BTO processor does not qualify as a refresh. Check the buyers guide for proof.

So you ironically called me genius, and said that I wasn't making any sense, yet someone else has refuted your BRILLIANT (notice the irony) remark.

Really? Refuted where? The only thing Aidenshaw was doing was arguing semantics and his conclusion was preposterous. The only thing I could possibly be guilty of is not being clear enough. Why he decided to assume I meant discrete gpu's and not integrated gpu's is beyond me. Especially since the 13" MBP currently uses and always has used an integrated gpu. My point still very much stands and your point is still stupid for suggesting Apple put very soon to be outdated Arrendale's into the 13". End of story.

Very soon to be outdated? You don't even know what you're talking about. Sandy Bridge was just released, it's not all about fitting the processor into the MOBO and voila, you have a MBP with a brand new processor architecture. You have to make OS X work with it, change the kernel so that it uses the processor properly. And that takes a lot of time, so spare us your insults.

Wow, you really think Apple (along with the PC manufacturers) just got their first look at Sandy Bridge at CES last month? That's hilarious.

Apple (probably along with everyone else), has been testing Sandy Bridge parts and been developing upcoming models around them for some time now. Apple has had plenty of time now to figure how to integrate Sandy Bridge into both their hardware and software.

This article, published back in December, says that Apple had already been testing them for months.

Hey i don't agree or disagree with you but...
All the time in the world isn't enough to find all the bugs..

well the only thing is if the new macbook pros come up in april... the new OS i think is coming in summer so.... that would be a bit downer cause u just got the new pro but then 2-3 months later u have to get the lion osx...

I think Apple will offer a free upgrade to Lion if their refresh comes out before Lion releases. Isn't that what they have done in the past?

I think that this update will be one of the longest ones in apple's laptop history.
It is a pity.

Indeed. I'm buying my first Mac this year, and have been waiting for this upgrade since last September. But I guess the longer we wait for it to happen, the greater are the chances of actually getting a machine with Sandy Bridge.

I'm absolutely dying to get a new machine, but there are bigger problems in this world than me wanting a computer. ;)

Congrats! I'll be returning to Mac after a few year hiatus to a dreaded Dell that I regret ever buying. I thought I needed the PC for work stuff, but I can't stand it. The wait for the new MBP is painful as I continue working on the Dell every day.

Would be nice if we got some more leaks or other juicy tidbits just to keep the saliva flowing. :D

if I was you:
Go and buy the best MBP now injoy every moment from it,
and when a new one come out (and the new stuff in it realy good )wait a month to be sure no bugs, and then buy it.
mbp keep resell price good

Amazon is now out of the base 15 inch as well.....

I'm still hoping for Feb 11 release of new Macbook Pros.....

Maybe the longer we wait the more time Apple will have to make extra changes with regards to the refresh. Better MBP? I think so.

The delay caused by this (about 1.5 to 2 months) is not significant enough to include any new features in the interceding time.
