Well, I've certainly got some folks upset here! It was only a question for goodness sake!

Anyway, an update; I have bought the 16" Pro, 1TB from Amazon and do not have any intention of returning even though they state I can by 20th April. I bought from Amazon as it was £260 cheaper than Apple.

Thanks for all your replies.

I might be a bit paranoid here but I have one strange question. When I unboxed the MBP it was fully sealed but did not have the tab to pull off the wrapper? Can this be right? Do some come with a tab and others without? I bought the 1TB model? If you watch unboxing on Youtube there's a tab on the wrapper that you pull. Mine didn't have one? Any ideas?

Was everything else in order? Sealed box?

Check the battery cycles.

I actually purchased a white clamshell MacBook from an Apple store back in like 2006 or 2007.

When I opened the box, the screen had palm and fingerprints all over it. I immediately took it back to the store to inquire about this. They were stunned and gave me a new sealed computer on the spot. This is back before the whole box was wrapped. There were the tabs to open the box that were covered by those round plastic stickers. I did notice afterwards that the round sticker was actually two stickers and one of them looked a little beat up. I have to assume back then they were taking returns and selling them brand new from the stores.

Even nowadays I think they do this(sell returns as new). I took an inCase 16" hard cover back. I tried it for a day or two. It was too dark compared to the picture and I bought it online from Apple. When I returned it to the store the associate promptly took the case and put it right back on the shelf without inspecting it. That was a couple of days before they closed indefinitely.

Point being, you bought the MBP online from Amazon. They are notorious for taking returns and reselling back as new. Especially with photography equipment.

I either buy from Apple or B&H in New York(tax free here in Florida).

That’s for your reply. Cycle count says 1. Doesn’t mean it’s brand new though does it? I put it straight on charge while setting up.

Spoke to Apple this morning and they checked the serial number and assure me it's a brand new machine. They don't know anything about the packaging and suggest I take it up with Amazon, which I have done.

if the wrapper is still on, then I'd say its not a return which is what I'm assuming that you're worried about. If the box was sealed but it lacked the wrapper on the laptop itself, then yeah, I'd be worried.

Once you boot it up, you should also tell, as it should come up with the new user experience, if not that's another tell tale sign

Yeah, it was just the wrapper on the box that didn't have the pull tab. The actual computer was in the Apple wrapping and when first opened it started up with the Apple logo. It's just strange it lacking the little pull tab. I'm waiting to hear from Amazon.

That doesn't mean anything, you can trigger the setup wizard yourself.
Of course but if the shrink wrap is intact, the laptop wrapping is (aside from the tabs) and the computer shows no signs of usage - then its reasonable to assume that it is brand new

I also assume you checked the serial number on the box itself against the serial number in "About this Mac"?

Otherwise, seems someone just couldn't resist pulling that little green tab.

Yeah, the serial number on the box matches the serial number on the machine. I still have the wrapping on the box and have taken a picture of where the pull tab should of been;

That’s both ends of the box where the tab should of been.

This was mine. You can't see the wrapper really except for the shiny reflective area.

Seems yours may have just been opened and inspected but never used. The shrunk wrap in a proprietary plastic.

And I am going to say this, though.

Your box looks completely wrong and not even a MacBook Pro box. The edges should be devoid of anything but the Apple symbol and words "MacBook Pro". 2 of each, respectively.

I don't know if I have seen too many different labeling models for the same item, but yours also look a little off.

I believe the wrapping with pulls is consistent on all new apple products nowadays to make it easier to unbox, but refurbished ones from apple don't have the pull. I picked up mine in store and it came with the pull and all unboxing videos I've seen have the pull. My personal opinion is the wrapping is not the original one sealed by apple. Could be someone only opened the box and returned it, or original wrapping was damaged and Amazon re-did it. I assume you can also order another one from Amazon without see if all macbooks from Amazon don't come with it or it's just the one you bought.

He's in the UK. There's a reason that sticker you took a photo of is a sticker. Different countries have different labelling requirements, i see the CE logo etc in OP's photo.

This video is a UK unboxing. Same label as US models. This is why I say I have not seen different labeling on the underside of the boxes. Identical to my labeling underside.

Even the box he took pictures of don't look like a MacBook Pro box. The boxes open upwards without any hinges and have very distinct edging. The edging in his photos doesn't look right along with the sizing for a 16 incher looks off from what I can see.
