Amen to that.
Others can say what they want, but imo, it's just criminal to ask such prices for the current MBP's.

A business is free to ask whatever price they see fit for their product. Nobody is forcing consumers at gunpoint to pay them. Apple is being quite clever in extracting every last drop of return out of their investment in the current MBP development.

fenman,

That's very true. However, a consumer is likewise free to voice his opinion about the value of the product the company is offering. I don't think Pantoffel is literally suggesting that that Apple shouldn't be able to sell the MBPs at this price :). Apple should just be mindful that their success relies on a fine balance between maximizing their current profits and assuring their future profits by keeping their current and potential customers happy.

The majority of their potential customers are happy. Half the people here (which comprises the bulk of the vocal minority) have already jumped ship to a refurbished or brand new, but otherwise "outdated" machine. The majority doesn't know i5 from ihop or a 9400 from a HD5870. Like I commented earlier, if Apple isn't already planning to release an update and really are milking the C2Ds for longer than a few weeks, it's going to take a "laptop hunters" style message for potential buyers to get the message clearly.

Possibly taking time to incorporate new Hardware?

Hopefully Apple is taking this time to incorporate new Hardware:?
Like:
1. HDMI
2. USB 3.0
3. Blu Ray
4. 1G Vid Card (including intigrated Discrete switching)
5. Larger Hard Drives
6. Heat Transfer/management
7. Battery Replacement capability
:D

This thread started on 3/11. The title of this thread and the "updated" text make many think that "tomorrow" is just that. So, it keeps going because many see it and think it is somewhat new.

Like it or not, Apple is selling a lot of c2d mbps. There is no exigency for them to update. All of the idle threats of people leaving and getting something else means nothing to Apple. In fact, by delaying (obviously, they can't delay too long), once the new ones are out, they probably will get better sales.

I already stated that No Way does Apple release the updated mbps before the iPad is released. I stand by it.

Really???

Are any of these rumors based on anything?! Still no macbook pro. Guessing apple will want nothing to disturb release of Ipad for March and April until the Ipad 3g is introduced. Apple plays consumers like a concert pianist! Frustrating!

There are at least two customers Apple is losing revenue on:

1. The "angry" enough person that has bought elsewhere.

2. People like me who will buy eventually but not June '09 hardware at March '10 prices OR until the new MBP comes out. And if anyone says that doesn't matter because "they'll eventually get my money" they have never even run their own lemonaid stand let alone any other business.

Secret to Faster MBP Release

My current MacBook Pro is limping along and has been approved for a full replacement. With all the talk of a new release, I am temporarily in limbo. Every morning, when I go online, I hope to see something about the new MacBook Pro. I believe I can guarantee a faster release of the highly anticipated newer version by ordering the current version. It should come out as soon as I am out of the hunt. When I ordered my current MacBook Pro, the Unibody came out within four weeks. When I ordered the MacBook to replace my daughter's iBook, the new Unibody version came out about 10 days later. I am on pins & needles waiting to see an official release announcement of the new MBPs. The MacRumors threads are making me a little crazy. I can probably hold out until the first week or two of April, but is there any realistic (& truly reliable) way to know how close the release really is, before it actually comes out?

I know it's frustrating, but the only way to do this is to simply resign yourself to wait. Just be happy with what you have until the new models come out, whether that is tomorrow or next year.

my guess is the new MBPs are dependent on 10.6.3... once that finally releases, they will announce the MBPs...

10.6.3 does not contain support for i3-i7 embedded graphic chips, which are built in. The earliest we may see these chips supported is 10.6.4.

Steve Jobs is not happy with Intel's decision to force their substandard graphics chips on their customers. He may refuse to use these chips.

I know, that would suck, because the processors are awesome. But that is the way Steve rolls and we all know that.

Doesn't the current iMac use the Core i5/i7 processors? And the iMac uses a mobile processor.

MacBook Air changes??

Like many I have been waiting for new MBPs and MBAs. Just checking my (NZ) local apple store site I noticed a change in MBA pricing.

Ordinarily the MBA starts at $2499 including taxes - hey its Kiwi dollars after all! Now however on the front page for MBA I got this:
http://www.apple.com/nz/macbookair/
In case the URL changes it says starting at $2999 which is the current top price point for the Solid state 2.13GHz version.

This looks like a change to me but the underlying pages still have regular pricing on them. Could be something?? or nothing.

New?

The current Apple web site still touts the Core 2 Duo machines as:

"The new MacBook Pro family.

High performance now comes in three sizes: 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch.
The new MacBook Pro brings precision engineering and advanced technology to everyone."

They are still advertising their old MBPs as new. We can guess all we want about when they release the next 'new' but it's almost false advertising at this point, don't you think?

another week people!
cuz every tuesday counts :(

why again is it tuesdays?
and what exactly happens when a new MBP comes out? do they display it in the main page, is it silent, is there an announcement? because it's starting to seem like the iPad is the big deal right now. Why would they detract from all the hype that has been built around the iPad's launch with the launch of a new MBP or Mac Pro right now?
Lastly, how long do you guys think it's gonna take for the MBP to come out after the iPad's release?
I'm so curious because I'm in desperate need for a MBP. I was ready to buy one, but then i decided to double check the buyer's guide, and now all these rumors are really setting me back. I even have the dough saved up already!:(

False advertising? Really?

Advertising claims of "new" generally have a shelf life of six months under relevant case law and the views of self-regulatory organizations (like NAD).

Said it before, I'll say it again....

If you need it, buy it! Otherwise just gotta be patient. No need to gripe about apple this & apple that. I'd love to see them release something rushed out to meet a deadline & to hear all you griping about all the imperfections & glitches? Give it a rest! & the current MBP is so outdated? REALLY? Tell me exactly what you are limited from doing with the current MBP's that the new one will supposedly allow you to do? BEAT IT NERDS! Geeze. Just admit it that you only want the new ones bcuz they are, well.... NEW!!! Obsloete tech. my you know what..... haha

Write CUDA programs taking advantage of compute 1.2 and 1.3 functionality. Namely, this means current CUDA programs on the MBP are limited from doing any of the following:

  1. Supporting atomic functions operating in shared memory and atomic functions operating on 64-bit words in global memory
  2. Using warp voting functionality
  3. Using 16384 registers per multiprocessor
  4. Using more than 24 warps per multiprocessor
  5. Using more than 768 threads per multiprocessor
  6. !!! Using double precision floating point numbers !!!

There are other things the current MBP is incapable of doing that I would expect the new one to do, but this seems a sufficient list for my needs right now.

Please...Apple's mac sales are up some 40% (from appleinsider). And you are just what Apple loves; you think last year's hardware is somehow so deficient that you need to upgrade.

(btw, it's lemonade)

The more people complain about the wait on updates, the more Apple salivates. Once these mbps are released, whether they have problems or not (e.g., the iMacs), many will purchase them.

Ummm, oh, I had no idea!!! Wow...

So if any part of that "stuff" you listed above is true, and that's a big IF, then you would represent the .05% minority that would need all that... uh, stuff. And that's a big IF. You'd have a easier time convincing me you need 1.2gigwatts of power to get the Delorian back to the future! lol
