I think they are gonna wait for the iPad buzz to die down a little bit. That would probably put things into a early-to-mid May timeframe (after the iPad 3G has come out).

It also might tempt people to add on an iPad while they are purchasing a MBP tomorrow.

"Oh ya, I almost forgot! That iPad thing looked cool, could I add one on? Ya go ahead and throw one in. Oh which one? Well they all looked the same to me. Why not make it a 64GB. Thanks."

Are you serious.

It's a much more realistic scenario, in my opinion, than someone walking into the store to pick up their $600 iPad and then deciding to also purchase a new $2k+ MBP on their way out. If Apple would incentivize the iPad a little once you add a new MBP to your shopping cart, I think it is highly likely people would consider adding one on. I might consider dropping another $450-$500 to add an iPad to my order and have the items ship together.

The problem is, by May Apple will be working toward launching the Ipad in other markets, like the UK, in June and Europe, possibly, at the same time. If there isn't a technical reason for delaying new MBPs then my bet would be mid to end of April if it isn't tomorrow or the 6th April.

Guess what? Is that day of the week soon. :p
Anyone else excited??

I dunno if excited is the right word. I feel more like Charlie Brown getting ready to kick a football.
BTW, that image is me, checking the Apple web site.

I feel your pain. I have been waiting for months now. I'm looking to get my first Mac and I hope there's a lot of good stuff with this update. I don't really care if there is anything else updated, but I REALLY want an i7/i5 processor. I may not need it, but I definitely want it. Fingers crossed....:D

Why? You realize that unless you're getting top-of-the-line, the percentage speed bump you can have with Core iX can be had today simply by getting a faster Core2 Duo than you were going to get in the first place, right? For people looking at the entry level models of, say, the 15", Arrandale really is a non-issue on every dimension other than what you'll pay.

You should get a prize for the Charlie Brown comment. Best one yet and I've been following since these stupid rumors started in mid-Jan.

Yet, I'll wake up and grab my iPhone tomorrow to see if it's happened.

I agree. If they go with a great processor and get the graphics up to speed, everything else is just gravy.

I have to agree, I cannot see the update coming before the iPad has launched. It's a shame as I have been waiting for months to make the jump to Mac from Windows and thought I could wait for the update. However, this update has been on the cards for a while and I am losing faith in it ever happening.

I presume next generation of MBPs will be a radical step forward. Otherwise, Apple would already upgrade those (if all what's needed was a simple processor upgrade.)

I presume there will be lots of mingling features between the current MBPs, MBAs and iPads. One option I can see coming is the exclusion of the optical drive in at least one model, addition of secondary battery instead and voila! -- we get a laptop with some 12-14 h of battery life. A two full work days of battery life. That's big!

I can also see a bigger and a more advanced touch pad, perhaps even something going in the line of completely removing the mechanical keyboard and replacing it with flat surface that displays software keyboards as applications need it (in the iPad style).

Well, it makes sense: it surely cuts down the cost to produce cheaper iPads in the end. There's no way Apple could make iPads at a such affordable price if they were not going to utilise lots of its features in their other products. The economy of scale.

MBA will also change, methinks. It won't have an additional battery but will improve in other areas. An addition of SD card port across the lineup would be great.

I'm waiting for the MBA actually. hopefully, it will come out at the same time as MBP :):p

I once thought it improbably they'd launch the MBP's before the iPad, but if you think about it, what better time to have new MBPs in the stores than when everyone comes in to ogle the iPad?

Then there's that email Steve Jobs sent to the guy a week back who was begging for new MBPs, "Not to worry." That was either a tip-off or a nasty piece of sadism... ;)

I never said the iX was going to change the face of the Earth. I want it (or whatever is in the new MBP) for the simple reason that it is newer than the current one and it will probably be better, be it even marginally. If I were to save a considerable amount of money, it may be another case, but I would actually spend MORE money to get the same or probably less. I'm sorry, but I'd rather wait just a bit longer and get the updated computer. Don't get me wrong, the current MBP is a fantastic computer. My brother has one and a lot of my friends have it. The current MBP is actually what is converting me from pc to mac. For me though, I would rather wait.

you took the word out from my mouth
evry word

Hmm...you don't think they were waiting for 10.6.3 do you? :p

Correct.

Given that 6.3 has been barely released, MacBook Pro is no less than 1 month away.

There are good articles on how Snow Leopard was a step backwards for MacBook Pros... no doubt those issues need to be ironed out as well before a new hardware release.

This is what I figured. Apple won't have a better opportunity to show off their other products than when feet come through the door for the iPad launch.

Surely having a bunch of last years product kicking around won't be a good look.

I hope that you're right. I'm willing to wait until a few days passed the launch of the iPad, but if it's not happened after a week I'm diving in.......sod it. Having last year's products on display won't look inspiring right enough, but then they don't want to take anything away from the i-Pad either. They're damned if they do and they're damned if they don't.

It isn't better - not even marginally. Today's BTO processor-upgraded C2Ds will run faster than the base model Core iX that Apple releases. The fact that waiting will save you some money is the only compelling bit. Performance arguments, on the other hand, simply do not apply for any user who has plenty of cash and can afford the top-of-the-line today.

mbp this Friday?

what do you guys think if it is going to be released on Friday? But one could only buy it on Saturday. Then, those who come to pick it up on Saturday, would be likely to pick up an iPad as well as a nice addition?
