Well, it depends. It might make some people who wanted to use a 17" as a super mobile graphics workstation sad, but if you could get that in a 13" it will make a lot of people very happy. :)

True, but the graphics card should scale up with the models. The new cards may be an upgrade for the 13" but they're not for the 15" or 17"

hey everyone

hello! i've been following this for ages, and thought i'd join in :D. i'm from the uk and have just noticed something. if you go on the apple site and try and buy a macbook pro, you get diverted to a "we'll be back soon, we are busy updating the store"!! its happening!

Yep, the AppleStores all seem to be down...

Also, the new (assumed) graphics card is kind of a let down. I would have thought they'd at least upgrade the graphics a bit, after almost a year since the last MBP-release.

And we're back up!

Both. This will never end, even with new MBPs, all we're going to get is 10 "Buy now or wait?" threads a day.

So true.... i don't know if i should go for this update or wait for the nuclear reactor batteries their about to put in them... tough choices ya'know? :)

I don't get why you can't have the top CPU in the 17" instead of the top 15". Or can you upgrade as an option?

Exactly, I am eager for new machines as well, but I know and will put cold hard cash on the forums being flooded with praise for the new MBPs, hatred for the new MBPs, and questions about whether or not the last model was sufficient and if one should upgrade after a year of ownership.

Then there will be the insecure buyers that bash how the new models aren't that much faster than the old, merely to justify their purchase from last year or a few months or weeks ago.

Then, of course, those that will chime in with," I am waiting for ___________ Intel chip to come out," or "The Unofficial waiting for ________ Intel chip thread."

Sorry about the minor rant. Not angry, just find it rather humorous.

You can have the top CPU from the 17" inside of the top 15" as a standard configuration. But I have no idea why Apple doesn't let you just upgrade the bottom 15" with the best CPU, or even the top GPU with the lowest CPU.

What I mean is, this shows the I7 as being in the top 15" but the 17" has a lesser CPU. I was wondering if you can upgrade the 17" to that of the 15" I7.

OH! I never saw those specs yet. I hope that 2.53 means quad core to be honest, but I do hope that Apple does give us a BTO for the top end 15"

Gotcha now.

p.s. If those specs are real, then I am upset that Apple didn't stick the 640GB in the 17" standard, with the 500 7.2k as BTO.

You forgot the 20 or so threads of "Why doesn't the MBP come with ______ ?", "Why did they not include _____ ?" , and "Blu-Ray in NEXT version MBP?" threads!!!!!

No, the quad core is only 1.73 Ghz so there's seemingly no quads in the lineup
