Sweet

Nice build to order options. Well worth the wait. Exceeded my expectations. Very cool!!

cool

I'm pretty impressed...will go and play with these new machines at the 5th Ave Apple store next week. If I really like the feel of the 15" or the 17", I may just get my first MBP and leave the desktops behind for the next few years.

I was planning to buy a 15" inch and I am very happy with this update. The best part is you can upgrade the resolution to 1680 * 1050 :)

There we go!! Finally the i5 and i7 appear. Nice option on the max screen resolution :)

I was right about the 330M graphics too :D

You forgot the 20 or so threads of "Why doesn't the MBP come with ______ ?", "Why did they not include _____ ?" , and "Blu-Ray in NEXT version MBP?" threads!!!!!

The main thread is FILLED with exactly what we said would be there. Complainer, insecure buyers, and people asking which one they should buy.

So the cycle continues.

Yea, as it always will. I'll probably end up buying one today anyway; my only real complaint is the GPU. I've flip-flopped on my feelings about the dual vs. quad core CPU. I'd really like the extra power in a "pro" laptop, but I don't know if the heat and power profile really make sense on a laptop.

Same here, I'd love to have quad core for those apps that are core aware, but I don't encode that much video on my laptop, and if I'd want something done faster, I'd find a Mac Pro (until I can buy my own)

My mantra has always been to wait for the update, then purchase the end of life or refurbished models that will end up going for $200 less.

For instance, I can finally replace my D2xs for a D300s for $1350 instead of $1900. Or, I can pick up the previous model 13" Macbook Pro for under $850, especially since it's still running Core2Duo.

You can't get the 15" hi-res antiglare in stores; you'll have to order it online . . . more waiting !!

You ain't whistlin' Dixie!

Oh, there are about 5 or so "Post what you just purchased / Did your MBP ship yet" threads as well. I made it a point to report them all to the mods because there is already one main thread for it.

:( It's even worse. At my store they are still pushing the old models. Weren't even interested in talking to me about the new ones.

That sucks, when I used to sell them we were always excited about the new stuff, and insisted people waited for the new release. Only buy now if you want to get that End Of Life pricing, which is what I wouldn't mind doing.

My wife may want the 10 hour battery of that 13" though, so may grab a new one (base model) for her.

how long does it usually take for new releases to be in apple stores? i just called mine and the guy said it could be a couple of days or it could be a month. i'd rather just get one in a store than order online.

Ordered Mine Today!

So glad the initial wait is over. Now I have to wait for the shipping of the new notebook. It never seems to end. Now I am just curious how fast the 512 GB SSD w 8 GM of Ram will boot up! :D

No faster than a 64GB SSD with 2GB of RAM :p

last time I checked in the store they said that I can get it only with the 5400 hard drive the 7200 you have to order on line, I don't buy the ssd hard drive because I need a big one and they are to pricy

Not that it makes much difference in the scope of your argument, but those weren't Arrandale laptops. They were Clarkdale. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want that in my laptop.

I was now told that Dell has the same 32 nanometer procs in their Studio series. In fact, they have use the quad, where the new updates in the MacBook Pro line only use dual cores. Plus, the dells use faster memory.

So, actually I don't know if the update is that good.

Don't get me wrong any update is good, but C'Mon...

Why do we still have slower processors, not as good screen resolution, slower memory, but still have pay a premium?

Oh, and I forgot still no Blu-Ray! :(

Arrrgghh, I wish Apple could focus on their computers and software (especially with the news that OS X.7 is losing resources to the iPhone), instead of being focused so much on the iPad, iPhone, and impending war with Adobe.

The size of the manufacturing process isn't the same as the power requirements. The quad core i7s are 45W and 55W processors. That's way more than the 25W and 35W processors you see on the dual core i5/i7 lineup.

As for Blu Ray, why do you want it? I've never quite understood that desire for a laptop.

Actually, it is max 45W vs max 35W - so it is not as extreme as 25W vs 55W.

And for the battery life offset, I am willing to bet most would take the quad over the dual, and the more cache and the faster ram.

It would be nice if the best was the best... Or maybe at least a BTO.

As for Blu, why would anyone want to watch a video on 3 inch screen, I think was the old argument.

Actually, there are a variety of reasons... I have blu ray movies that I would like to play, when not at home. iTunes HD movies are only 720p and have a lower bitrate, more compression. Also, if over at some else's house, could use it as player to watch on their hd set. Also, would like to burn my hd vids onto blu ray. I received some blu ray footage
