That is exactly why they are not updating. If is still selling, why they are gonna change something?

i went by the sydney apple store today and saw 4 or 5 people walk out with a 13" mbp in about a 10 minute span

those things are still flying off the shelves as is

After 5 years use out of my Powerbook G4, I don't really think that I'm part of any game of planned obsolescence. There are a number of people who have posted in a similar situation to me ;)

Heh, and here's me thinking I'm the only one with a 15" G4 :) Damn power connector is broken, battery is knackered! Apart from that its fine, was thinking about an iPad but... yeah think I'll leave that one to mature for a while.
Was told by an apple store employee (this weekend) to wait til next week. Dunno if he's informed or naive! :) I'm waiting anyway.

WHO REALLY CARES?

Is there anyone here who needs; who's work DEMANDS a faster MacBook Pro?
If you answered "Yes", then Apple simply isn't meeting your needs...

...Or maybe they've got you in the upgrade game of planned obsolescence.

The question is not whether the speed of the current macbooks are good enough for you now but will it be workable for the next 3 years.

What will tomorrow bring?

Guys, it's important that you don't bring your hopes up too much.
It's fun and exciting to wait for every tuesday to come, but the more you expect, the harder it is to deal with the disappointment of waking up to nothing.

Hope this is your day (though it doesn't look like this is it).

See how everyone still has something to complain about when nothing happened yet. When new MBPs come out possibly with arrandale, everyone is gonna **** on jobs for not doing something with the 13'' MBP. There is a 13'' MB if that meets your needs. You think you need a pro but you don't. If you insist, then you're a damn amateur.

... If you comment is not amateur then I don't know what ameteur is...
:)

Amen to that!

Higher prices for average performance?
Time to get a vaio 13'' carbon fibre super machine!
Just install Ubuntu on it and go;)

According to the prices on the image, only the "Macbook Pro-Good" is going up on price, and it's only by $100. Everything else is staying the same or going down.
Well if they are including Blu-ray drives and not increasing prices, I hope this doesn't give them an excuse on using lower-end parts for other components like GPU.

Heheh. I'm on my second power supply and my second battery barely holds charge for more than 30 minutes now. The SuperDrive broke about a year ago, but the rest of it works fine. I'm waiting for the announcement about new MBPs and will replace this when they're announced. I'm not sure what I'll do with my old Powerbook though.... :p

Have used a $400 dell notebook as my main computer for the past 3 years. No problems at all. How exactly do you define crap?

You should buy a lottery ticket because getting a good Dell seems quite lucky. I have known several people who owned Dell's and ended up hating the company because of the poor customer support they got when their computer went bad.

Question: Why does everyone seem to be stuck on blu-ray drives? I bought a blu-ray player eons ago, and returned it the same weekend. Even with the right high-end cables, the brand-new flat screen television, and so on I really didn't see a dramatic increase in picture quality over DVD.

And yet, for many here, it seems to be a deal breaker on new MBPs. If they don't come with one, what will it really matter? Can't you just buy a player separately? Is it just a matter of needing to take your blu-ray discs on the road for entertainment? Surely there's a cheaper way to do that than buying a MBP. :)

Just curious, really... What IS the big deal about blu-ray, and why is it so important in MBPs?

Either:

1: You have terrible eyesight
2: Your TV is *****
3: You were expecting too much

Blu ray vs DVD is like night and day, but like any media it can depend on how good the transfer is.

People want blu ray on MBP's for many reasons along with blu ray movies. The main one being 50GB storage per disc

Just curious
If it is tomorrow for the update on the MBP what time do they usually do the refresh?

I second that...if you truly don't see a vast difference between blu-ray and dvd than you have serious issues with your eyes, your tv is way off calibration or it's a piece of junk.

Thanks, once again, got it.

And no, the TV was brand new, the cables were high end, and my eyesight is fine. I had people confirm it before I returned the player. We played the same movie on DVD and then blu-ray, and there just wasn't a "ooooo, aaaaa, wow" experience. Maybe it was a bit better, but not so as to wow one.

My question was answered, so now let's get back to talking about Macs.
