After 5 years use out of my Powerbook G4, I don't really think that I'm part of any game of planned obsolescence. There are a number of people who have posted in a similar situation to me![]()
I have a bad feeling about the 13" models. Core 2 + 9400M G might be around for far too long.
WHO REALLY CARES?
Is there anyone here who needs; who's work DEMANDS a faster MacBook Pro?
If you answered "Yes", then Apple simply isn't meeting your needs...
...Or maybe they've got you in the upgrade game of planned obsolescence.
See how everyone still has something to complain about when nothing happened yet. When new MBPs come out possibly with arrandale, everyone is gonna **** on jobs for not doing something with the 13'' MBP. There is a 13'' MB if that meets your needs. You think you need a pro but you don't. If you insist, then you're a damn amateur.
The question is not whether the speed of the current macbooks are good enough for you now but will it be workable for the next 3 years.

All MBPs out of stock in UK John Lewis... strange that!
They must have shipped all remaining stock to Canada, because BestBuy.com still shows "Not Available for Shipping" for 15" and 17" models. Which fits the current theories just fine.Best Buy is still fully stocked: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/category/apple-macbook-pro/26225.aspx
Well if they are including Blu-ray drives and not increasing prices, I hope this doesn't give them an excuse on using lower-end parts for other components like GPU.According to the prices on the image, only the "Macbook Pro-Good" is going up on price, and it's only by $100. Everything else is staying the same or going down.
Heh, and here's me thinking I'm the only one with a 15" G4Damn power connector is broken, battery is knackered! Apart from that its fine, was thinking about an iPad but... yeah think I'll leave that one to mature for a while.
Was told by an apple store employee (this weekend) to wait til next week. Dunno if he's informed or naive!I'm waiting anyway.
Have used a $400 dell notebook as my main computer for the past 3 years. No problems at all. How exactly do you define crap?

Just curious, really... What IS the big deal about blu-ray, and why is it so important in MBPs?
Question: Why does everyone seem to be stuck on blu-ray drives? I bought a blu-ray player eons ago, and returned it the same weekend. Even with the right high-end cables, the brand-new flat screen television, and so on I really didn't see a dramatic increase in picture quality over DVD.
And yet, for many here, it seems to be a deal breaker on new MBPs. If they don't come with one, what will it really matter? Can't you just buy a player separately? Is it just a matter of needing to take your blu-ray discs on the road for entertainment? Surely there's a cheaper way to do that than buying a MBP.

50GB optical media.
Thats why.
Either:
1: You have terrible eyesight
2: Your TV is *****
3: You were expecting too much
Blu ray vs DVD is like night and day, but like any media it can depend on how good the transfer is.
I second that...if you truly don't see a vast difference between blu-ray and dvd than you have serious issues with your eyes, your tv is way off calibration or it's a piece of junk.
