Best Buy only has the lower end 13" MBP available for shipping and the rest of the line not available for shipping. I do think there will be updates tomorrow, the question is, which models?? Thoughts?

Tomorrow

Is everyone ready for the big let down tomorrow? I doubt we'll wake up and find the website changed. I gotta think they'll make some announcement the day before (at least) to get the public pumped up.

Strange, everyone with a Dell that I know, seem to be quite happy with their Customer Support.
I recently bought an Acer Aspire, and the Acer's CS, that's poor !

Dell came in second to Apple in that study done recently I think (it was a BIG gap between first and second though) and I believe Acer came in dead last for their customer support. Let me know if I am wrong on this, I just thought I remembered some article on here or engadget.

Someone asked this earlier, but I didn't know if anyone responded. Does anyone know about what time the actual change happens when there's an update? I didn't know if there was a pattern to it all.

I have been waiting for tomorrow all week. I can't wait to wake up tomorrow and look at the apple website and see....... nothing new.

I hope I am wrong as I have been waiting for the new MBP to coming for the past 2 months but I doubt it.

If it is just a quiet refresh to the line, then when most of us wake up the Apple Store will be down for maintenance and at noon (I think it is noon Pacific time, but it could be noon in each time zone) the store will come back up with the new products in place.

If it is an announcement, then the store could go down (if the products are available right away) or we'd just have to watch the news section on Apple to see. If it is announced but not immediately available I imagine the Store won't be touched.

That's all based on past experience, so don't quote it as hard fact.

When the store goes down, the macbook pro pages should go down to (right?).. if not.. then no new macbook pro's.

Hoping for it.. but I'll be let down again I think.

Exactly. If the Store goes down, all pages at http://store.apple.com go with it. There's just one message saying that the site is being updated or some such.

I'm not holding my breath, either. June still seems far more likely, even with the "Really" in the title (still chuckling over that).

Which makes one wonder, aside from authoring and storage capacity, if most people would really see the difference in a MBP 15". :)

I'd have to guess that many people are hanging on blu-ray because they're excited to get the really cool high def movies on their laptop, but if what you say is true... That'd be a no-go on a laptop sized screen.

(For the record, my TV is 45", so that is probably why I wasn't all that impressed. Thanks.)

That's rather flawed logic I'm afraid. The reason large tvs are required to really see the difference between blu-ray and DVD is the viewing distance. If you're sitting 12-15' away from your TV then in order to really appreciate Full HD you probably need a screen in excess of 40-50".

You don't sit 15' away from your laptop, do you? Therefore the size of screen necessary to really appreciate Full HD reduces somewhat dramatically. I'd expect blu-ray to be reasonable on the 15" and 17" MBPs depending on resolution. Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to see a Full HD 13".

Cheers,

jahman

P.S. If your TV isn't 1080p but 720p then you are equally likely to be underwhelmed by blu-ray. You don't give us enough information to tell whether you or your former set up was the problem.

Well if they are including Blu-ray drives and not increasing prices, I hope this doesn't give them an excuse on using lower-end parts for other components like GPU.

I agree. If that's the trade-off then I certainly don't want Blu-ray. I don't think I'd use that anyway.

Cancom is business supplier in Germany, and they've only had the lowest models of 13", 15", and 17" MBPs available for shipping for months now... (http://shop.cancom.de/produkt/sid=jbMT5zReweaqUbhNxYUJuw/inst=48/10020555) and it's just the same today!

These out-of-stock responses don't seem to be telling us very much!

So apple wont be at NAB at all? That's all kinds of confusing. If so, we're back to square one, tomorrow(next tuesday), which is never reliable.

if updated models are indeed launched tomorrow, does anybody know if they will be available from apple store in Germany rightaway ?

My thoughts exactly. Plenty of online retailers in the US still have them ready for same-day shipping.

Is the fact that we haven't been hearing rumors with potential specifics (blu-ray, touch screen, USB 3.0... just tossing stuff out that people have speculated about) a clue that this isn't a huge update? If so, we'd have been hearing things by now, like you do about the next release of the iPhone.

Or have I missed those rumors?

Pixel pitch is more of a factor than screen size...but other than that, you're right on. In fact, sitting too close to a large TV degrades quality.

P.S. If Apple don't put blu-ray burners in their new MBPs they will lose a lot of market share. Apple aren't stupid, clearly, so there will almost certainly be blu-ray burners in these new machines.

Weren't blu-ray players common in other laptops when the LAST MBP refresh hit?

Something tells me that "market share" doesn't drive Apple's plans for the future. I'm sure it is in the plans, just not the major factor. :)

The Italian AppleStore reports that all the models will be shipped in 24 hr except mid-range and top-range 15" MBPs that requires from 1 to 3 working days.

Moreover, if you try to configure any 24 hr shipping model, you will see that the shipment time will immediately change to 1-3 days.
It probably means that no more MBPs are available except for a few base models.

This makes me more confident on a pending refresh for MBPs... Let's keep the finger crossed!

Can anyone confirm the trend to restore current prices after 5 weeks from release?

I'm planning to buy my first MBP in that way!!!

Tnx,
P.

I hate to rain on your parade, but when you configure ANY system in the Apple Store the shipping time automatically jumps to 1-3 days. That gives them time to make the custom configuration.
