ROFLMAO!:D
I had similar idea, was going to start a thread that was titled "Apple Store Down! MBP Merom Upgrade?" Then first post was going to be "HA HA, made ya look!!"

(Would have been cool if I could have a snippet of that bully kid from the Simpsons that does that laugh.)

Great idea, but I chickened out!:D

We are sick.

Sick, sick, sick.

I think we will all get disappointed in (less than 2 hours), when we see the new Aperture version and whatever useless operations it can do to your photos.

Sick of waiting...

i jz have lovely iMac 20''

but hope MBP as well as MB and aperture or even iPhone to be introduced today!!!!

:D :D :D :D

Impatience brings... nothing

I just rang the my local Apple sales team and told them I'd heard there was going to be an update today. Her response was that they'd not heard anything, although she said they wouldn't normally hear until it was officially announced. I pressed to see if there were any rumours going around their office, and was told no, none at all. Having put the phone down, I tried not to punch the wall! Bah! :(

Maybe someone posted this already but i'll be damned if i'm reading 51 pages of posts to find out...

I would be surprised if the MBs and MBPs are upgraded much before November, my reason for that is the iPod + MB/MBP deal is still running in the UK until the 7th of October.

Surely Apple will want to wait until that offer is over before releasing the upgrades? That way they can get rid of both the old stock iPods but also the (soon to be) outdated MBs and MBPs - my University recommends students buy the 1.83 MB, so there's a bit of a push on to get them sold it would seem!

Well that deal includes ALL the mac range (imac, macpro etc..) so it's still feasable. I just want an answer as I'm ordering one today regardless of whether its updated or not for my cousin, but I'll wait till early evening before I do so. I'm getting the cheap ipod from the sale ;) :D

I think the monkey in the whitehouse should do the decent thing and drop a nuke on the UK for "centuries of oppression under the crown" :D

Nevermind the fact that America broke free and gained independence after that!

Cossie,
Yeah, I have thought that for quiet some time, here in barcelona the offer is good till 16 october... but, I still hope that apple run out of MBP and HAVE TO deliver new MBP C2D!!!

Aplle, don't let us down!

Anyway. there is only an hour to go.... hope that today everybody is going to be happy

Hi,

This is my first post.

Believe it or not my very first Mac is shipping today: 17" MBP.

I guess I will have to be patient and not open the box until tomorrow just in case a new MBP is announced...

As for apple holding out on the upgrade because of the Edu deal in the UK. I would not think so. I don't think it would be to their advantage to hold off a new processor just because some students/faculty are going to get an iPod if they purchase a computer.

Btw, what is the policy on exchanges w/ apple? I was told in another forum that if Apple announces an upgrade within 14 days of someone obtaining a product, you get in on the upgrade for free.

This is my first post as well. It is disheartening to learn that the IPOD promo deal is running in other countries...... I figured by it running out in the USA, that would have been more of a global thing...... everyone being on the same timeline. Perhaps not right?

Im not sure what the computer differances between here and the UK are..... maybe it will be like a CD that comes out in one territory first before it hits the next territory? Surely not though?

Anyways, I bought a 2.0 15" MBP exactly a week ago......... It kept randomly shutting down and so apple graciously took it back, and gave me a brand new 2.16 15" MBP model abosultely free. The nice thing is, it shows on my receipt the higher price!

I really hope apple updates today. I guess if not, i wont be sad. I just will continue to enjoy the MBP i already opened!

Anyways, name is Will.

23, from Houston Texas.

Will, you bought it from an Apple store, I assume? (Otherwise, the turnaround for such an exchange has been several weeks and at least three re-repairs.)

Good sign! They are trying so hard to get rid of the old ones they can afford to be frivolous :D

Hey Will,

Don't forget though, that the iPod deal is for the old iPod, not the new gen.

I agree with you though; it is unfortunate that our iPod deal ended nearly a month before the UK.

Are people in the UK so undecisive as to take them an extra month to purchase an Apple product?

(j/k - The Queen is on the currency here, so I'm allowed to poke fun of a fellow Commonwealth country)

:)

Most likely, Apple would do as they did in the U.S. when the C2D iMacs debuted - the iMacs were no longer included in the rebate offer (the rebate offer here specified which Apple products qualified, and it was "Core Duo" iMacs, MB's, MBP's only.)

If C2D is delayed beyond September in MBP's, it'll be because of a problem in development, or manufacturing. No way would Apple let everyone else ship their C2D notebooks and be left behind for all to see!

Here's hoping to today or tomorrow ......

BS. The employees at the Apple stores typically have some sort of idea of what the new or updated product is, but they don't tell anyone. There's no way that you could expect the employees to be able to sell that machine without telling them the specs before it's released. They'd be blabbering on about something that they didn't know much about. It would be like shopping at a Best Buy...

Apparently there is something about UK consumer laws that forbid Apple from doing that, so I suppose if they release the C2D MBP tomorrow they stand to lose millions, or even billions!!

Much more than what they'd potentially lose when people grow tired of waiting and buy a Dell!

Having an iPod edu promo deal here running concurrently with the deal in the US would make absolutely no sense. Our "Back to School" season is late-January and February as our school years run within the calendar year. We start (Primary School in late January, High School in February and Uni from anywhere from Feburary through till early March, our long holidays are in the Summer over Christmas) at the beginning of the year towards the end of summer and finish (All around mid-December barring Uni which normally finishes in November with some High Schools) at the end of the year just before Summer gets into the swing of things.

We do have an edu iPod deal and it normally runs at the same time as our back to school season - it would be silly for Apple to run it here during the US back to school season as most of us are getting towards the end of the year now.

Maybe the reason for the deal lasting a bit longer in the UK is that they have a slightly different holiday season?

:)

Didn't the iPod rebate start later in the UK, hence the later finish date?

Good to know that I made someone laugh today.

Back OT, I think that everyone's all hyped and hoping for their amazingly updated MB/MBP and odds are it's just the same specs as before except updated processors. And they'll still have some of the problems from before.
