Hello, my first post here too! A lot of newbies on this thread. I've been tempted by the Edu offer; i've never owned a mac before but have used my brothers macbook and fell in love. I start my MSc a week Friday and really need a new laptop, so i'm waiting to see if the MB is upgraded today / tomorrow.

If not i'll bite the bullett and go for the Edu offer. Thing is though, it only applies to the old style nano. The 2G ones aren't included. For that reason alone, i think they'd be able to specify that the offer only applied to Core Duo models if (fingers crossed!) updates are announced today.

Are you talking about the free ipod nano with MBP Edu offer? Does it still apply? I thought it expired on the 16th of sept.

I bought mine from the store.

It is so funny because IF they do a new release today......... i brought my box, receipt et all to the office. lol.

In the past with apple updates, i never hear about them until like 3-5pm...... do they usually update at the start of their business day?

I don't really understand why everyone is doubting MBP updates today. Last year when Aperture was released (a much more important event than an update) they also released updated G5's (Quad). It seems highly unlikely that Apple would hold an event for just an update of Aperture - regardless of how significant. I'm not saying certainly MBP's but something else.

Sorry, should've been clearer; i'm talking about the UK offer. Sorry!

a more likely update that very few are mentioning and one that im totally waiting for and wanting is a new iSight. webcam, cam, camera. yeah? what do you guys? very likely, right?

Is Macrumors offering any coverage of the event or will it just be an update to the Apple page?

Don't think so. I'd check here for updates on the regular site at least, and of course the apple page for "store down" happenings.

that's what i'm sayin. preach on brotha.

Good news everybody! I bought my BTO MB on Friday and it shipped already. :( That means that they will update the MB and MBP's today. I thought maybe I could time it just right since the actual ship date was Oct 2nd.

They update whenever they feel like. All depends on if they have an event or not.

Macworld's going, they'll probably have updates on their Maccentral news site.

there should be a new rule in the forums

no mentioning of the words "santa rosa" until december 1st, 2006

anyone who breaks this rule is subject to immediate banning

Because there's really no reason to believe otherwise, besides one unsubstantiated rumor posted on two sites. There has been more rumors and info pointing to there not being a MBP update.

This is what I think, again...
Aperture will take up the entire event.
Perhaps iSight will be announced.
Perhaps new Cinema Displays will be announced.
No MBP announced today.
No MBP announced tomorrow.

And iSight

With 20 megapixel resolution

If the event is 10:30 in the US, what time does that make it in the UK?

Anyone know, as I wanna keep an eye on it as I want a MBP, or maybe MB is they update both

I'm a big believer in holding out until the next best thing. Lisa and me are getting along just fine.:p

I agree with others here. I highly doubt Apple would hold a special event just to demo a new version of Aperture. There has to be something else... I'm really hoping for a new iSight. I think that shipping time of October says a lot. :)
