My anticipation is just for the fact that i'm going to order a MBP... not that i think the C2D is going to make that much of a difference. I just refuse to order before the eminent update happens.

I am going to fortell the future here:

IN 15 MINUTES EVERYONE IS GOING TO BE GOING NUTS WONDERING WHY NOTHING IS HAPPENING YET.

i think the store should be down by now

the end

I guess some people just like setting themselves up for disappointment.

Seriously though, every other laptop manufacuter has basically just swapped out Yonah for Merom in their current lineup, with no new models, etc.

Because Apple took a whole frigging month longer than the needed too! All the other manufactures have been shipping Merom for that long, the only reason explaining why Apple is not doing that is there are bigger improvements than just swapping the processor.

what worries me more is that there is no macrumors live update site active yet. I am very dissapointed in macrumors if they wont put it up.... they always had the best and quickest live updates.

if they dont, what other sites are doing live updates?

Think your right. Bad feeling about this. :(

I don't think this event is worthy of using the live update page. It's not like it is MacWorld or WWDC. Simple headlines will do. :)

I would be excited, but it just makes too much sense to get at least some of the Macbooks updated, so I think we won't see anything :(

So if they ARE updated, does this make them Rev. B? And hence, safe to buy finally? :D

My Shiny new iPod is wondering if it's going to get a big brother Macbook today :p

i havent read anyone looking into the other items mentioned here outside of the MBP..

so i went an checked out the iSight and it saying shipping October as well as this iSight acces kit...

It's going to be October in a few days. New iSights would be timed perfectly for this event.

Cinemas, Aperature say 24hrs..

I think Cinemas might be announced only because they announced the price drop on current dispalys back at WWDC--sort of an inventory cleaning strategy before new/larger models are introduced. This is slight though.

soon i will be opening my MBP sitting next to me or upgrading..

15min til showtime

This event is most likely all about Aperture, and nothing else. Enjoy your new macbook pro. :)

I really don't understand the obsession with the magnetic latch.

My friend had a Sony Vaio. One day he closed the lid a little too enthusiastically, the latch missed the hole, bent around and punched a hole in his LCD.

I'm starting to doubt that we're going to see it today. Macrumors is right, there just really hasn't been enough evidence for this one, except for what we're making up - like reading into various CNN ads, etc.

Of course, I'm just as desperate for the update. Come on, prove me wrong, prove me wrong!

What exactly do you expect Macrumors to do, when there is no real mechanism in place for them to do any reporting. Do you know of other sites that are covering it, for reference?

What manufacturers have been SHIPPING them for an entire month? Heck, they didn't even officially get unveiled until August 28th, and it was only the week after August 28th that manufacuters started even announcing what models were being upgraded with Core 2 Duo. It's only been in the last week or two that Core 2 Duo laptops have started actually shipping out or become available in stores.

I think the only difference with Apple is that they didn't announce a month in advance before they'd be ready to ship, but are clearly waiting until they will actually be available (same with how they didn't announce the upgraded iMacs in advance).

Where exactly is the pre-photokina event taking place?

This is an overview of the entire Photokina hall:

Apple is supposed to be here:

Yes, in 4.1 ... that looks tiny compared to the rest.

Small stand or huge event? :9

Also, just as a general point, I can't understand what the excitement is over Core 2 Duo upgrades. It seems pretty clear now that we've seen the various PC notebooks with Core 2 Duo that it isn't that big a deal. We're not looking at significantly better performance, better battery life, cooler operation, etc.

I mean, it's not like the MBP suddenly becomes much more attractive than it already is. I was just playing around with the Core 2 Duo Sony SZ 330 at Best Buy, and you know what? It basically seems the exact same as the Core Duo SZ230 before it.

I mean, it's kind of nice knowing you have the latest technology, but I don't see why it warrants this level of anticipation.
It's just the fact that many people are looking for a laptop around this time and they see a Core 2 Duo upgrade as a good long-term investment (instead of buying a new laptop every year). It's either this or wait until Q2 2007 for a possible new chipset or Q3 2007 for the new 45nm process dual-core processors. Of course almost all Mac users would say (and have said) "never wait, buy when you need it." So this would be a worthwhile hype for Core 2 Duos.

The reason that it is such a big deal is that some of us are students who need to get a portable for University. I have been holding out, writing my notes on old fashioned paper with old fashioned writing utensils, waiting for Apple to release the Merom MBPs.

Why is Merom such a big deal? Simple. When you pay a $500-1000 premium for your laptop, you want at least a modicum of future-proofing. Now, Merom may not really be that much faster or cooler than the current Yonahs, but they are 64-bit. Leopard when it is released will have 64 bit capability. Eventually Adobe CS, and other applications vital to the creative industry will start coming out in 64-bit versions. Eventually, OSX 10.6 or 10.7 may require a 64-bit processor. Some of us who are ready, willing, and able to upgrade would like to ensure that we have that tiny extra bit of future-proofing.

The main advantage of the Merom over the Yonah is that they are 64-bit processors. Right now the machines on the market are all using either a pure 32-bit OS (Most versions of Windows and some versions of Linux) or a 32-bit/64-bit Hybrid OS (Tiger and a few Linux distros). Currently the only pure 64-bit desktop OSes are bleading Edge Linux distros -- but Leopard and Vista will both run in pure 64-bit mode (as well as pure 32-bit for older machines) -- that's when the superiority of Merrom would become apparent.

i guarantee people working for apple troll this site laughing at us.

Well why not? The hysteria before an event is very amusing. Nearly as good as the complaining afterwards. :)
