1.5 hour event for a free update. lol.

It does strike me that this was a bit odd - obviously the photography market is very important to them!

bah, who cares. Why have a damn meeting for a stupid ass photo application?

I WANT MY MBP!!!!!!!!!

I'd bet 85% or more of the Photographers a Photokina, as well as the ones here.

Digital imaging is one of the strong points of Mac's, after all.

what a load of crap!.

Why the hell do Apple have to take so damn long to get an updated MBP out. I mean they managed to fix the heat problem with a simple firmware upgrade on the MacBook so why not on the Pro?

Very dissapointed now

Magnetic latch on MBP aperture page

First time post long time reader,
I was just wondering if anyone else noticed that on the aperture page that the macbook pro at the bottom looks like it has a magnetic latch? Am I just hallucinating in anticipation, or is this really the case?

This is a photography event, so it's not weird at all for Apple to focus on Aperture for 1.5 hours. If I was a pro photographer, I would want to see as many new features from Aperture 1.5 as I possibly could.

Don't get your hopes up, but I can see Apple quitely releasing something new tomorrow via their Web site. All I want is a new iSight. :)

Here's to all the people that totally flamed me for saying:

There is no way in hell that they will introduce laptops at this event.

Period.

*points and laughs*

No, follow our "logic"

Why the hell not? I don't know a single pro photographer who's laptop isn't crucial to their workflow. Photographers are probably the #1 users of pro-grade laptops and the ones who would most welcome the new hardware and the performance boost it afforded.

You can feel free to go ahead and explain yourself in your next post instead of just mindlessly making statements with nothing to back them up. thanks.

If you are not willing to explain yourself then you are just trolling.

in what world are MBP's irrelevant to Aperture? or vice versa? that are totally relevant for reasons i mentioned above.

edit: or are you saying that a C2D MBP is a main course kind of product as opposed to a side dish?

I for one KNOW you're wrong. 100% wrong. The lower key the better. Apple does not want to rub it in the face of all those who just bought the last model to look like it's still 2003.

There's now way Apple would call a press event just to announce an incremental upgrade of Aperture (Although this will be part of it). There has to be at least "one more thing".

Hmm didn't Apple release the 17" MacBook Pro at NAB earlier this year.

Back down rich, I've already tried throwing logic at him, he simply refuses to get off his soapbox. When backed into a corner, moderators can be extremely dangerous.

Nah, sorry dude. You can still see the mechanical latch holes either side of the iSight :(

If Apple doesn't hurry up with the MBP update and I end up having to buy early, guess who won't be getting my money...

Frustrating...

The Intel conference seems more probable. Still, this was a lame event.

I doubt many photographers were impressed by an event introducing a free, minor .5 update that isn't even available yet.

sure looks to me like it has two slots on either side of the isight camera for the metal clasp to close.

New MacBook Pros tomorrow, trust me - a silent update.

I am going to drag my feet a bit in purchasing over the next day or two - but that really is it for me.

Even the most ardent "fanboy" has to start wondering what has happened - we need a Rev B

So you're going to get something else JUST because Apple hasn't updated their perfectly good notebooks with a chip that's hotter and runs maybe 10% faster? That's idiotic.

Guess the 17" box is going to remain shut for another day.

I imagine though that there is a restocking fee if I were to open the box, then return it in a few days should an updated MBP come out?

Its frustrating. As someone else pointed out they have just held a 1 1/2 hour event to announce a FREE update to a program and the update is not even available yet!.

Thats idiotic

I predict that the update will occur on thursday.

Quietly white-clad ninjas (or, for an extra £80 black-clad ninja) will creep into Apple Stores accross the world (well, the US, UK and Japan, at least) and replace the Yonah with Merrom.

You forgot to mention that the "perfectly good notebook" isn't 64 bit. Which for GFX professionals, would actually make a difference. Most figures I've read are 20% faster per CPU cycle rather than 10%.

very well put Gary, in fact ill join you.

told ya so, suckers :D

Pretty disappointing.

Especially when this delay seems completely pointless. There is no shortage of the C2D chips and they are supposedly ready to release.

Looks like its time to call hp for a cheaply made econo-notebook. :(

Just "meh" from me. Not "displeased."

I'm beginning to regret buying into the whole thing. Excellent marketing on Apple's part - I took it hook, line and sinker when it first came out. I only use it for cataloguing now. I already had Portfolio for that.
