I've been obsessively following these threads for awhile now, and I have to say that I threw in the towel and ordered a new MBP today (15'' high end stock model). It wasn't my decision to make; my computer (a trusty G4 800 MHz, and my first Mac) died 3 hours ago ::moment of silence:: and given my need for a computer for school, I really couldn't hang around waiting for the new models.
I know that for most of what I do, the new processor wouldn't make a huge difference, although I was looking for the upgrades that Multimedia has mentioned in his posts. I also wanted to get the best bang for my buck, and since the last refresh was in April, I'm getting a 5 month old machine. But given what it's replacing (I was getting tired of not being able to play CDs with a busted drive and keeping the monitor propped open after the hinge broke), I'm looking forward to seeing my new machine this Friday or Saturday (it'll sure beat the Dell I'm typing on in the campus lab right now).
In some ways, it's a relief to finally step off the Merom rollercoaster ride that's been riveting me since August. I plan on taking a break from the rumor sites, enjoying my new computer, and figuring out how to get my iTunes library back on the computer off of my iPod. I wish you all the very best of luck in holding out for what I'm sure will be an even more fantastic machine somewhere down the line.
