Well, now I'm kind of pessimistic. I think somebody mentioned this, but it doesn't seem likely that they will update the MBP line this week, since they have the Aperture image up in the Apple store. Doesn't seem likely that they will replace that with a MBP banner within a matter of days/hours. And it doesn't seem likely that they will update the MBPs without a banner in the store (like with the iMacs). So, maybe we have at least a couple of weeks...

Ipod was updated last week, and today's updated with Aperture, so if it's not in a couple of hours, then next week's definitely MBP?
I'm still holding on to the "couple of hours" though
:D

I have given up hope and I might order a MacBook Pro tonight.

The only "hope" I have left is that the front page of apples site is not updated, so maybe they're waiting for today to update the macbook pro, so they can post that along with posting aperture 1.5. Rahter then aperture yesterday, and MBP today. I'm also hoping it's coming out cupertino time, because germany time would have passed by now, so there is still a little bit of hope, but not much.

All I know is that I ordered today and even tho it was supposed to be a 24hr ship time, it's not going out until next Tuesday. Could be a good sign or could just be wishful thinking. Either way, I want a new notebook and the MBP fits the bill nicely.

If you altered anything in the spec when you ordered it it pushes the date out.

I noticed that by changing the HDD to the 100GB 7200rpm it pushed it out to 5 days, then adding iWorks pushed it out again to 7-10 days.

i must the configutarion time and the installation time for the software (when they can get a tech to do it, as it's all pre-installed)

Unfortunately, many of us who were hoping for updated MBPs yesterday relied on anecdotal evidence from purchasers who said that they had ordered machines in early September only to have a 1+ week delay in ship time for their orders, so I wouldn't read too much into your delay.

As I understand the upgrade protection, if you're going to be getting a C2D, Apple will send you an email which seeks confirmation as to whether you want the new model, or want to take the old one at a reduced price.

I have a ticket to Mac Expo in October.

It should be noted that this event has not been used to anounce new products for several years -- somehow I doubt it'll be used this year. My money is on next tuesday (ie. a week from now).

Recently, Apple has increasingly taken to quietly updating a product on a Tuesday (or Wednesday) instead of using a special event, show, expo or conference. I think many here are still over-relying on these special events for updates. It may just happen on any old tuesday.

That said, Apple may have been planning to update the MBPs at Photokina but had to change their plans at short notice for some reason or another.

Funnt Funny Funny. You guys are funny. If it's not today.Than next tuesday or maybe next tuesday etcetc.I told you it will be November.I know everyone is anticipating for a "today" release, but sorry it will not happen.
The great thing although when it's released you will all be screaming when is the quad core coming ???.

if you really need, why not just take a pen and a paper for this short time?

I am laptopless since I sold my Powerbook last week. For me, pen and paper is great. However, I hate compiling software using pen and paper. I waste alot of paper and pens, and the hole punching thing for the datacards is starting to tear my arms a bit.

Aperture 1.5 is already posted.

Heh... very nice... about how long does that take?

OK guys!

I've been following the whole MacbookPro update rumours for quite a while now. Currently I do not own a mac of any kind.

My situation is the following:

1. I'm a student in Germany
2. I have a mobile computer (Centrino 1,7 Ghz 1GB Ram) with XP on it
3. I really hate the design of so many notebooks -> I can't understand why so many manufacturers are not able to put the chips into good looking, thin and light cases!?!?

The MBP really looks good and OSX is much nicer than XP. In XP the console is very lame and the whole osx unix flair turns me on somehow...

I wanted to buy a new MacBookPro since June but I was waiting for the 64bit C2D....

I'm tired of waiting and I started to look at other manufacturers notebooks...

Sony will be launching new models within october but they have not the power I expect (and of course WinXP is too lame to use and Vista is not ready)

This one could have been a good MBP alternative, but if you look at the hardware facts, you see that there is no webcam, no C2D and a weight of 3KG (much heavier than MBP) in it GRRR

the only plus is the nice price 899€ and 999€

this sony notebook also looks nice, but only 2MB Cache C2D, price 1699€:

Looking at the DELL notebooks makes me very irritated! I always ask myself: Who buys these UGLY-PLASTIC-EXPENSIVE-CHEAPQUALITY plasticbooks?!?
Their design is so damn ugly that they deserve an award for it o_O

I mean, look at this!!!
9400_inspiron_155x160.jpg

This ASUS notebook with C2D and HDDVD is way too heavy and there is no webcam in the display! GRR
The rest of the design looks pretty MacbookPro like but the price is 3000€:

At the moment there is no real alternative to the MBP for me (MB display is too small and what is a computer without a graphics card!?)...

I really want bleeding edge technologie and nice design... If someone can show me a nicer and better equipped C2D notebook than the MBP C2D will probably be: PLEASE SHOW ME!!! PLEASE POST A LINK...

I'm tired of plastic-notebooks :(

Seems like I have to wait and wait and wait....

They are damned ugly, but 17", and C2D 2.13, and a real graphics card, oh and get this, it is cheaper than the top 15" MBP.

And runs Windows, which is what most people using Mac's are trying to avoid.

I'll take an old G4 iMac with Jaguar over a C2D Dell with Vista any day of the week.

Why?

Peace of mind.

The list is to be worshipped!! Bow down before the sacred list!!

October 26th!! That's the new Macbook -- that's it!! Definitely!! No doubt at all about it!!

Let us now take the list to the ballroom and seat it at the head of the table and serve it goblets of wine until the Day arrives!!

(I think I'm going nuts waiting for this damned thing.)
Whoa that is some cool evidence of MacBook being released. Damn I can't wait this long. I was afraid that it would be released around Thanksgiving.

Well, I've also been looking for something which looks as good as the MBP, while having the power the current top-of-the-line Apple notebook lacks. Though, I have to admit, it was mostly to justify my own wait for the C2D MBP.

In total, I have been completely unable to find a notebook which is even close to the beauty of the MBP (although that will have to be a subjective judgement), and actually quite few moderately ugly ones that surpass the Core Duo MBP in power. When you add in the ease of use (and peace of mind) of Mac OS X, there is really nothing for me to do, except wait for the C2D MBP we all now is in the works.

Waving white flag

Well, after a long evening, and a quick look now and again this morning CET, I gave up.

BUT... wanting the best of all worlds, I bought a 2/120GB BlackBook (and a ton of accessories). My iBook is hissing at me

The cunning plan is that when the MBP C2D makes its appearance, I can graciously donate this one to my wife... Aah who am I kidding, I'll probably keep them both.

Have fun, all. No more sleepless nights for me, and the refresh button gets a rest.

BTW: I now know why I don't like the name MacBook. My brother works for Lenovo, and when I told him about it he said "Ah, you have bought a McBook -- do you want fries with that?". Get it? Try and say it stressing the second syllable - like McDonalds. Geh! family :)

Here's Mine.

Only a few more hours until I open up the box or call Apple and tell them I want to exchange for a C2D.

"I'm getting this for you, dear. I'll just need it for a couple of weeks first."

Ahh, one of the good "excuses". Mine bought it the first time, but hasn't since.

And your brother? He'll be singing a different tune when you flash it to him. ;)

Another one bites the dust

gave up on the wait.. needed a computer.. just ordered my MBP 15" 100GB/7200RPM with 2GB Ram...

Sigh........................... so wanted the core 2..................................

I have been following this post from day one. Several have mentioned the hope that the new MBP C2D will also have an easy-access HD. Can someone tell me if the reason for that is because a) the current MBP HD is altogether inaccessible, and/or b) it voids the warranty to change it yourself?

I currently have a 15" MBP 2.16 but am looking to replace it and my ancient desktop at the office (G4 Sawtooth with upgraded 1.4 ghz processor) with a single 17" (more ports). I'm hoping the 17" with a new display will do the job of both...if it doesn't get too annoying taking it back and forth everyday. But I would want to replace the HD with a high capacity Seagate or similar and don't know if it is an undoable thing, should the new MBPs not include an easy-access HD.

Ugh, I guess it still could be updated today (not).
See you guys for more fevered discussion next monday afternoon.

Option b for me.

Both! I love my PowerBook (and can't wait to upgrade to a Merom MBP!), but Apple has had the most retarded design for hard drive removal/replacement I've ever seen! Other notebook sellers (e.g. Dell - remove one screw and pull the drive out!) advise removal of the hard drive before sending in for service (assuming that the drive has been ruled out as the potential problem!), but you void the warranty if you do this on a PB or MBP - how ridiculous!

I typically upgrade to a new Mac notebook about every 3 years, but upgrade to larger hard drives almost yearly, as capacity increases. It should be at least as easy to do in a MBP as it is in the MB!

I was told in our local Apple Store that as long as you brought Apple your third party HDD/RAM, they'd install it for $30. Is that true?
