You gotta be kidding me, I bought a $550 pc laptop and apparently its got a DVD+R DL on it... I don't know if thats a DL burner as I have not even played a DVD on it never mind anything else. I bought it to match my needs for work (pc based office), after some rat stole my powerbook.

Isn't the 17" the laptop which gives best bang for the buck?

I don't quite understand the first part.. Are you saying that if I want a DL burner I should just get the minimum PC that has one? (because thats obviously not what I'm looking for, but maybe I should to hold me over....) Or are you agreeing that its rediculous that you don't get DL DVD burner with a $2500 computer?

I absolutely agree with you that the 17" is the best bang for the buck! Its a nice package... but it could still be updated for sure (better resolution, better HD, more RAM, better vid-card.....).

That totally sucks that someone stole your comp. Did you know that you can put laptops on the personal articles policy of your homeowners or renter's insurance policies? It has a very small yearly fee with ZERO deductable. Its like 50 bucks or something to insure a $3000 notebook for an entire year!

Now thats gotta be a canny good excuse, "Sorry Professor, I couldn't do my paper/assignement/homework because I was waiting on Apple bringing out the new Merom CPU, can I have an extension? I hear on macrumors.com they are coming out next Tuesday"

LOL! If they were a Mac person I bet I could totally get away with it.

Sadly, though...

Good God, I would not recommend this HP here on this board. I found it hard to take that Apple didn't have that sort of kit in the laptops but then they have been a little slow on the uptake at times and because the stuff isnt updated weekly like a Dell.

No insurance company would touch it as we are based in Oz, and I am in the Caribbean. That sets off red flags all over for them...

I am biased on the 17" as thats what I had but, I wouldn't care what chip it had in it, as long as it did what I needed it too without giving a spinning ball.

you know the MacBook is actually due for an update - October will mark its 5th month since release - and Apple typically revises its models every six months so I'd expect sometime in October

I think he's just messin with em

My unsolicited opinion: the only thing that really sets the MBP apart from the competition is the enclosure. What other notebook out there is as slim and nice to look at? All the PC notebooks these days have some sort of gimmickry.

I'm willing to pay a premium for that. But only if what's inside is comparable to other high end PC notebooks, which sadly it's not.

I want better graphics and the ability to upgrade to 4gb of ram. Being able to upgrade the memory is probably the most important capability when it comes to maximizing the useful life of the notebook.

Who knows anything about the schedule for tomorrow?

Is there any chance that C2D MBP's will be released tomorrow?

Regards,

Tired and Frustrated

Definitely a chance. Will it happen? Your guess is as good as mine at this point.

Keep on dreaming because we want it? So you're saying it will never happen. Wow. Now that's a bold statement.

The even more arrogant bit about that is we are paying for it, so we have to dream to have the opportunity to pay for it? Wow, just wow. At least others appreciate my money more. :D

Wants will always exceed needs and whats available in the stores at that time - and the contents of your wallet (inevitably).

Ok, I guess I am getting a little tired at this point. I was trying to make the point that we all want the latest shiniest thing out this minute. Hell, I do too but, I try to justify it.

From an Apple point of view, they do not have the resources to start launching new laptops and imacs at every little event just because Dell has started included CPU XYZ in their line up. Dell have the volume to get the new CPU to the customer at a premium and then dump the least shiny thing in the latest $499 TV offer PCs - something which Apple do not have - excluding the Mini...

Dell also differ in that they just get new boards and CPUs in from a supplier, and Bob's your uncle. Apple on the otherhand, will have invested a heap of cash into that motherboard and making your 1" thin laptop a piece of art that it is... They want to recoup that investment! You might get a speed bump or something that doesnt need much work soon after a release but not a new CPU (I am not hot on pin compatibilities - so I am open to flames on that)...

What Apple do give you is a well rounded system that will work! Now we are lucky that we have cheap after market parts which are industry standards unlike the old SCSI and ADB days.

We are a spoilt bunch now compared to a few years ago when you got 3 options and that was your lot, and upgrades happened once in a blue moon.

To those who are willing to wait for something that might come or might not... Good luck but, you are cheating yourselves out of using a good system, remember there is still someone out there waiting for his powerbook G5...

If I am proven wrong and you do get the precious Merom, I will be happy to be wrong. But after all this saliviating, you'd better bloody buy one :)

well the wait is ridiculous. I was thinking september 12 to be a worst case scenario release date. It hasn't even happened yet. I don't think that apple can hold on any longer without releasing it. So for tomorrow, I'm pretty optimistic about a release.

I am posting this for those of you who are getting tired of the wait. I am not saying buy at this site, but I am the owner of the Nova 906V Accelerator loaded. They are all custom built notebooks. No shelf models. Just check them out to pass the time.

One thing is for sure....they absolutely blow Dell, ThinkPads, and HPs away extremely bad.

Why exactaly would Apple release C2D in the Mbp a day after they had a MAJOR announcment...It makes NO sence They will prob release two weeks from tomorrow..Not to get anyones hopes down but tomorrow is unrealistic...Though i would love for apple to surprise me

You're condescening explanation ends with a patronizing statement followed by a I'm-just-playing-ha-ha smiley emoticon. Thanks. :)

Don't be silly. Today's software press conference had nothing to do with whether or not Apple will reveal C2D MBP hardware tomorrow. They are two completely different divisions. They probably hardly ever talk to one another very often. Do you even understand how large corporations are organized?

Glad at least one person here is with me. Even if it doesn't happen tomorrow, we will still be one more Tuesday closer to the day it does. So it's a win win situaiton either way. I have infinite patience for this to happen and am in no rush for it to happen. If it takes longer, Apple is making it closer to perfect this time. I am in it for the redesign including HD Bay and cooler ventilation as much as for the C2D part.

Well, macosxrumors got it all wrong this time. It really is a shame. No MBPs at the pre-photokina and not Aperture 2.0. All we got was Aperture 1.5 and a bunch of crushed hopes and dreams. I really hope for tomorrow, but I am worn out. I started researching Macs at the begining of the summer. I became quite fond and to curb my desire I stopped looking at them until I had the money. Now I have the money, but no updated notebook. I really hope Apple isn't behind to much longer.

On a side note, when you start up a mac for the first time, do you install the OS and choose what you want to go on the computer, or is it already installed? One of the first things I plan to do when I get my MBP is make sure I am not wasting any hard drive space for different languages and drivers I will never use.

Me too. They are not a reliable source - usually get it wrong.

It's preinstalled. But you can remove all the foreign languages with Monolingual a free utility. I just ran it on my Quad and saved 381MB.
