i have a 2012 and chrome kills my battery and when on power, my fans go crazy... chrome hogs more cache, cpu and ram than a logic project. give me a break.

edit: not saying 2016 is a flawless machine (or even a good machine or update), just saying chrome is a shoddy program on OS X.

Currently I'm powering a 1080p external monitor and casually browsing with Chrome. At full charge, I'm getting an estimate of 3 hours battery life. With gaming it's even less.

Really?? Using an external display consume power and why he doesn't connect to power???
Also gaming must be done always with power adapter, it is one of the most demanding tasks, it is normal to see even 1/4 of battery life with gaming

Idiots whine, other users believe as true and Macrumors post a news... this world is crazy.

Q:
Who attaches a mbp to a display, on a regular basis, without mains power.
A:
Someone who wants to rubbish a product, probably due to buyers remorse.

Hey is this an issue software updates can remedy?

And who's going to file the class action lawsuit for misleading information?

Its funny how people think all issues are on all the laptops, a few with battery problems of millions units and ppl go bananas, same with the the graphics issues.

Its ppl who are unlucky enough that get a problem that go online to try get help, thats why problems are seen in forums.
And apple have the best support/warrany/replacement system in the industry for those guys..
If they hired better programmers maby less bugs would exist though..

Mine is fine with around 9 hours battery, and never seen any glitches. Same as millions of other users.

Looks like I'm waiting for a new MBP until Apple gets their act together. Ive heard nothing but bad from these new models: crap battery life, massive price hike, need an adapter to literally plug in anything to it. What next?

you forgot the graphics card and soldered SSD etc

I think the list is including but not limited to:

2016 rMBP

• apples obsession with 'thinness' that compomises the product
• lack of required external ports
• soldered SSD issue
• Price increase issues
• battery life issues
• graphic card issues
• possible supply issues
• arrow up keyboard issues
• compatibility with current Thunderbolt 3 devices issues
• annoyingly noisy trackpad issues

to be continued?.....

Wow, hold the front page! Laptop battery lasts less time when using power hungry apps!

To quote Apple. "UP TO 10 hours battery life".

3 hours is "up to" 10 hours.
Use better designed apps.

BOOM!!! There's the first apologist in the room, didn't think it would be this quick tho.
Don't take it so personally fella..

I just got my 13" touch bar MBP i7 16GB. Battery behavior is quite unstable. I can not see 'estimated time for charging' and yesterday it ran out of power even though stating it was around 50% battery left :-/

Will probably have to return it. Nice laptop otherwise.

Both Safari and Chrome open to 1 tab - news.google.com - WTF? I even let the browser settle for 30 seconds and it continued with an Energy Impact of 3+ all the way up to this crazy 20 while as far as I was concerned both browsers were in the background doing nothing. This is why nobody should be using Chrome. For those instances where you need to watch HBO (Flash) just be mindful the energy impact is a 60. So download and setup Quitter to kill Chrome as often as possible or better yet just delete the thing.

The SMC will take a bit of time to gather enough data to be able to display estimates. If the issue persists you might need to do an SMC reset. Also, in this particular case you've got brand new hardware and relatively new software, so you're likely to see stability issues for an update or two.

Chrome knocks three hours off all MBPs. Not a good argument.
I know, some professional segments like Web developers should have a bit more "courage" to use the browser where the parent company is seriously dragging its feet implementing (if we are that lucky) API's. How dare they use other tools on their PRO laptop that caters their professional requirements better. The new "You are browsing wrong" or my absolute favourite "Professional is only a marketing term".

Safari is not an option as we are not going back to the era where one browser holds back the rest of the internet only because Apple is scared that web apps threats their App Store model... . The only usage for Safari on my Macbook is for testing the lowest common denominator.

I dont understand why macbook users insist on using chrome instead of safari when they should know that chrome drain so much battery

Google apps run better in chrome. I have been having memory management issues with Safari where a single Google docs would eventually chew up 12+gb of ram, slowing my MBA (which has just 4gb of ram) to a crawl until I terminate the process via activity monitor.

So I use chrome for gmail and google docs, and safari for everything else.

It's also possible that they are using android smartphones, so it's easier to sync your settings across a common browser like chrome.

Ridiculous. My mid-2012 rMBP has soldered memory and you can't replace the flash (from a warranty standpoint) so this is not even close to new and is still not a problem.

USB-C is probably the most consumer friendly move Apple has ever made for MacBook Pro peripherals. In fact it might be the most open move of any laptop vendor on the market. You don't even need to buy Apple power adapters?! WHAT?!

Maybe the web needs a competing browser, but Chrome isn't it. Until they get their performance issues resolved, Chrome is the browser that is launched for the Adobe Flash holdouts and then gets closed at the end of the video. In fact, Chrome is holding back the Internet by not having already killed off Flash.

My experience of using a 2015 and 2015 , 15" at the moment, same tasks, 2015 is about 25-30 better battery life.

Not suprised at all, when you keep making products thinner and thinner the only improvement Is markerting spill.

Under the right conditions , I'm sure the 2016 has better battery than 2015, not my daily use though.

I still don't understand why apple didn't put the touch bar above the function keys... Couldn't we have both?
It's like asking why the iPhone couldn't have both a touchscreen and a physical keyboard.

The whole point is for the touchbar to replace the function keys. It's essentially a souped up function key. Having both defeats the purpose of the touchbar in the first place.

On my 2013 MBP 15in, for the past hour I have been running a VMware machine in background while browsing around at full brightness, two browsers open, about 20 tabs, music playing. I am at 94% batteries. I have never had a computer with such good battery life, and looks like I won't be finding anything like it in Apple for the near future.

HUH, my 2014 MB pro 13 retina, already 30 minutes in use, and showing almost 11 hours to go!.

Has USB, HDMI, Displayport, SDcard and magsafe. works like a charm in heavy illustrator, photoshop, coding, 30+ tabs in safari all at the same time.

Will be sticking to that for long :D:D:D

i mean you should have seen the concern on shiller's face

If he was really that concerning why he co-made this mess and put his face on?I really don't understand, what made Apple sell in the past was RELIABILITY ,so the PRO Products were driving the iphone idea, you know it was lacking in many aspects but it was from APPLE...,i don't understand how they can let this guys ,which made great in the past but with a real leader, ruin all like this.Such an irony they are telling us,infact the logo now isn't shining anymore,so does Apple ( which is not just Ive or Federighi),with no words on Mac Mini or Pro, glueing and soldering all for being thin and thin .The last is ruin OSX now MacOs,which is why we ask for Mac.C'mon Ive,Cook, you've almost done.Unify all with Arm.I mean it can work but seeing this,i doubt it.For now, wallet closed and refurbished ones.I mean pricey?Ok...even if, but not working?Apple you're asking way too much.

Just looks like a narrower usage profile on the new MBP's to achieve the up to 10 hours claim. It's a consequence of a now smaller battery being offset by a more efficient CPU/GPU and system optimisation. That's fine until you load up your CPU/GPU/disk storage which results in the efficiency gains being negated over the previous generation CPU/GPU. Quoted efficiency gains for each generation are effectively skewed against the full range of CPU performance as an example. If you look at successive generations of Intel processors those quoted gains are much smaller when under full load.

It also looks like owners coming from the integrated 15" previous generation are taking a hit as even a more efficient dedicated GPU will still be less efficient than the previous gen integrated model. The latest MBP GPU will kick in much earlier.

It's a bit like saying I've bought a new car with the same size engine as my last car but it now does 50mpg and is 30% more efficient than my last car. Sure if you drive at 56 mph you may see the improvement however if you run both cars with your foot to the floor the efficiency gains will be negligible on the new model. Throw in a smaller fuel tank on the new car as well.

Ultimately if you load up your system with intensive tasks you'll be restricted by a laptop with a smaller battery. It's why even something as trivial as using Google Chrome takes you outside of the usage profile Apple are quoting for their 10 hour battery claim.

Apple still have a much better track record of quoted battery life over most PC laptop manufacturer's particularly for ultrabook models where they'll quote 15 hours battery life but won't specify that's only for an extremely narrow usage profile.
