Again... BTO... from APPLE. It'd be $800 for a 2x reader. Get a cheap external one.

"But I want it on the go!"

You won't notice the external Blu-ray drive because you'll also need have the power plugged in to watch more than half of a movie.

No...yes really.

Other computers have blu-ray drives and they do fine.....

I agree with you. I think if people want speed, graphic performance, and hard drive size; why would you buy a MBP? I know, the MBP is a "Pro" computer so it should handle everything. People that need top end GPU and speed shouldnt buy a MBP, buy a MacPro. I think if Apple put a SSD in the MBP, it would be cool but a total waste of money. With the money you would spend, you could buy a Mac Pro!
But the Mac Pro isn't mobile...

Seconded.

Thirded.

For the life of me I can't figure out this obsessive idea that all mac portables need to have BD built in. I guess it would be nice to have a BTO option, but people need to realize that this adds a bit to the price and is a serious drain on battery life.

Here's what I'd like to see:

-stronger chassis for the 15". I question whether or not my new MPB can hold up to the everyday handling rigors that I similarly put my old PB-12 through.

-bring back a 12" model, stripped down similar to MBA but make an external wirelessly accessed optical drive with it's own battery so I can just leave it in my backpack while I use it.

-removable optical drive/bay with an option to add a secondary battery or hard drive or other device in it's place.

-a small touch screen interface (not the main display) that can show functions or operations specific to whatever application is current.

...people need to realize that, because it's an Apple BTO we're talking about, this adds a prohibitively large sum of money for many people to the price and is a serious drain on battery life.

Changed for accuracy, but you're right.

-a small touch screen interface (not the main display) that can show functions or operations specific to whatever application is current.

Yeah, like Vista SideShow. How's that working out, by the way?

I am Back...

I have been heralding the needed return of a 12/13 in MBP spec'd machine for some time. I would scarf that puppy right up! :apple:

re: .Chris

[snip]

also a more easy way to replace the battery. apple has a thing with non user replacable batterys. steve mnust be money huingry

re: .Chris

1 rounded hinge are fugly
2 there is no wasted space. PC laptops are typically much thicker (no, you cannot compare some underpowered "ultra-portable" with MBP)
3 pros use external firewire 800 card readers
4 LED are standard on 15", as soon as technology is available on the 17" they will add it.
5 blu-ray might be useful but I would rather not have an optical drive
6 HDMI might be useful if there is blu-Ray drive
7. Apple remote design is fine with me. White is easy to find. Are all your cloth the same color?
8. I like the current MBP keyboard.
9. do you carry 4 usb devices with you? If not then use a USB hub.
10. MBP does have 2 firewire ports (400 and 800)
11. size, so you want a larger laptop with lighter weight?
12. weight? wtf? Have you seen how heavy pc laptops are?
13. What? Air is a speciality product with its own design. Why not just make all Apple computers look the same?
14. "easy way to replace the battery"? The topic is MBP. MacBook Pro HAS user replaceable battery. You should read the specs next time, perhaps even try one out before making "suggestions".

Real suggestions:
Option to NOT have an optical drive (yes people do bring media as mp4 files), in its place, either
- Second harddrive or
- Second graphics card (SLI)

 • A hinge that that recline back a few degrees further
 • A port replicator or a dock option.

My two small concerns

I decided to start this thread after doing a search and finding nothing. What is on your Macbook Pro wish list?
 • As with all mac laptops. I want a rounded hinge. Why? They add more class if done right and protect the screen more. You dont need to add a huge one, just a size that fits in to the form factor of the computer. Perhaps the power button on the hindge. More and more laptop makers are going this route., Love to see apple do the same.
 • Less wasted space. I know apple doesnt do the wasted space, but on the macbook pro there is a TON of room for more stuff.(17" model is bad) I know they want a clean, simple look, but why not add a number pad or a slot for the apple remote? Makes the computer look bigger and weigh more then it actully is.
 • media card slot, Come on steve, you embrace multimedia with photos not everyone stll uses their USB cable they all gone to media card clots. Create one slot that can fit ALL card formatts. I've seen it done before, come on apple, get with the times
 • LED backlet display as defalut config. I think we can all agree. The apple logo on those leaked shots looks like it will be an LED light and NOT some 1970s doted logo..
 • Blu-ray would be nice, but in 2009.

 • HDMI input/ourput, if they dont have it already
 • Not related to the MBP, but the apple remote that comes with the macs. Redesign it, with a sliver or black color. smaller thinner profile. Make it so existing mac and apple TV owners can buy one for around 20 bucks and it will work.
 • Use of apple's new keyboard on the pro.

 • at least 4 or 5 USB ports. one on the front, 2 on the left and 2 on the right

 • 2 firewire
 • 16 and 18" perfered. if not thats fine
 • 15" Current is 5.4 LBS. Bring it down to at least 4.7 or 4.8 LBS
 • 17" Current is 6.8 LBS Bring it down to at least 6.0 or a bit lighter.
 • Match the designs of the air (with more of course), imac and bring one simple easy to use machine.
I'm holding off to get my next computer as HP screwed my system up and I will never trust them again. Been thinking of getting a mac, but wanted to wait till the new macs come in and hopefully its this fall. If i like what I see i'll go, if not, then I'lll just go with someone else...

also a more easy way to replace the battery. apple has a thing with non user replacable batterys. steve mnust be money huingry

My biggest gripe is the lack of numerous USB ports...2 just doesn't cut it.

My Fujitsu Lifebook has 5! I have to use a Belkin swivel hub with mine and aesthetically it's ok but it would be a lot nicer if it were built into the laptop.

Yeah, like Vista SideShow. How's that working out, by the way?

I know nothing of Vista so I have no idea. Sorry.

Maybe Apple could integrate the iPhone/iTouch with macOS so it's display becomes the touch interface specific to whatever application is being run on the laptop? I dunno, I just think there is opportunity here for something.

4. It is; the 17" 1920x1200 is LED backlit. They just need to put it on the 1680x1050.

10. Yep, and they need to swap the 800 for a FireWire 3200 (they're backwards compatible).

Yeah I know that. The price is probably too high to make it standard on the 17" at this time.

I thought firewire 3200 is not yet final and probably not going to happen anytime soon?
