It's not powerful enough.

Oh, so Apple's lineup is absolutely perfect, and can never be improved.

And since when did I say Apple would make the MacBook Pro thicker?
You said it in your earlier post..."redesigned to accommodate these without making it too thick."

So make the MacBook Pro better (making it thick isn't the only way of doing this)! The same thing happened with the iMac and Mac Pro. The iMac and MacPro again are DESKTOPS!!! THEY ARE BIGGER!!! To keep the size you have to wait a few years for CPU/GPU/HDD to shrink down in size and price.

It's going aluminum soon, according to rumors. We hope

I'm curious. How much does 23.6 square inches of aluminum weigh? I'm sure it's a lot less than 5.4 lb. If you are making a computer thicker, liek you said in your earlier post that Apple would have to make the computer thicker, the computer will be heavier....Current metal + Plus thickness and more metal=heavier

Maybe Apple should just scrap the MacBook and MacBook Pro and just have the MacBook Air. Happy? I mean, you can always buy a Dell.

Here...maybe you would like this??

You missed my point. The iMac went better and more expensive, while the Mac Pro lost its low-end (sub-$2000) model. If the MacBook and MacBook Pro did the same thing, then the MacBook could gain a larger / higher-resolution screen and/or a dedicated GPU.

Or make it thicker, like I've been saying since the start.

I know that. I'm just wondering how much heavier. Because the extra metal isn't as much as the metal on the MacBook Pro.

Since when did I want something over 3" thick? As I have said before, a ~1.5" MacBook Pro would give Extreme processors and a better graphics card, and maybe even dual hard drives.

I just threw up in my mouth a little. Why on earth would we want apple to make their ultra sleek sexy Pro laptop into an ugly alienware monstrosity?

Dual hard drives? in a portable? yeah... that sounds useful

Apple does this all for a reason (and for money)

And this is where we dont agree. If we keep arguing we wont get anywhere.

Dude...it was a joke. The picture was a joke because your location say PowerMath G5...

Another question? Do you currently own a MacBook Pro? Most people with MBP are currently very happy with the size and if Apple were to make the MBP thicker (like you said) to put all the Extreme Processors and better GPU, people wouldnt be happy at all.

Since we arent getting anywhere, lets move on to a different think to discuss.

Is the thick and big Mac Pro an "ugly monstrosity"?

I know. :)

I'll concede that I do not own a MacBook Pro. The thing is that Apple could have both a 1" MacBook Pro (or MacBook) and a thicker MacBook Pro. I'e heard that 17"ers are generally used as desktop replacements, so why not make them more powerful at that? ;)

Agreed.

How about quad-core. There will be a 2.27 GHz quad-core mobile CPU in Q4 2008. The good news about it is that it is rumored to be 35 W, so it could fit in an existing MacBook Pro no problem. The question is: Will Apple accept the clock speed hit for better multithreaded performance? Will prospective MacBook Pro buyers?

Well if the Mac Pro were advertised as a portable notebook computer then yes, I would consider it an ugly monstrosity. But since it isn't your post means absolutely nothing. That's like saying 'Is a cruise ship a behemoth in comparison to a speed boat?' well duh it is if they're both being marketed as wakeboarding boats.

I think Apple will do the Quad core...but probably only in the MBP, maybe the MB if the clock speed is lower. Apple would advertise it as Quad core and something like "2x the performance" or something.

Extreme processors are for idiots who have no idea what they're talking about. This is my experience in retail. The people that want the extreme processors are never talked into buying the processor that's half the price and 95% as fast. They won't even see the difference.

Seems like some of you guys have been convinced that an Alienware is the pinnacle of laptop computing. Unfortunately, it's anything but. 45 minutes of battery life because of power hungry, expensive parts that can push benchmarks 5% further are not the stuff of laptop legend. Your ideals have been shaped by marketing and hearsay, neither of which are perfectly trustworthy.

I have to say that I can't imagine that Apple would increase the thickness of the Macbook Pro. I don't think it needs to be any thinner, but I would be disappointed if they actually increased the thickness which I think is just crazy talk. I will probably be upgrading from my 1.83GHz Core Duo Macbook Pro as soon as they are updated, and if they made them any thicker than the one I currently have I would probably end up buying one of the current models instead on closeout or in the refurbished store. As it is right now I feel like the thing is pushing it on the portability front, and I carry mine with me a lot of the time.
