Dang! That’s a nice difference lol good amount of $$ being saved.
Fully spec'd out 16" normal pricing vs edu pricing, still don't care. 🤔😂

I may just get a base 16" model and upgrade little stuff here and there. What do you recommend upgrading?
For our use case, the base model is plenty for us, I've got the base model M1 MacBook Pro, this thing will last me 7 years easily, new one will have 16gb ram instead of 8gb ram that's in my current beast, 512gb SSD instead of 256gb, even more powerful chip and GPU, base model 16" will be more than enough for me, I haven't even come close to using it for anything demanding, only thing I'd look at upgrading is the SSD if you need more than 512gb, How much storage you using on your current machine?

Get started!!! Wishing you all the best friend!!! See you across the world. I will be stopping by :)
UK thread spun off for those wanting some localised MacBook shenanigans

I may have it yes. I’m gonna check later tonight. I thought you can just order using your Apple ID
There are two types of edu purchases.

For the standard type of edu purchase you can just go to the Apple web store and order directly. In the US (and in Canada where I am), there is nothing else you have to do. It's just a regular order... but from their edu page.

However, there are also institutional edu accounts. These are for administrators and such ordering for schools and university departments etc. It sounds like you don't have an an institutional account.

No need for a EDU account over here. 😁
See above.

Same thing over here in AUS. 🥰

Reactions: beach bum
Over 8 hours usage, not even at 50% yet, these new machines better have the same if not better power efficiency.
Efficiency - no way. If the processor is more powerful and has more performance cores but less low power cores... Add in more GPU cores and, depending on your config, more RAM.

Same or better battery life - yeah, possibly. The MBP 13 has a battery that's almost 20% bigger. So if the MBP 14 has a similarly large battery, it may compensate for the extra power.

As long as we don’t lose efficiency, I’ll be happy.

Thank you for the info. It will be standard type edu purchase. But I don’t want my Mac to get delayed.
