I bet they call it Facetime HD when it does come out. I bet the iSight name will die with the new MBP and the iMac refresh.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they've already dropped the iSight name. I believe they're already referring to the camera as a FaceTime camera in the specs of Macs.

I'm thinking 3G (or maybe 4G) built into every laptop Apple sells. That would make a lot of sense to me. I'd love to see a value added bonus for those who have both Macs and iDevices. I'm thinking something along the lines of HP's WEBOS tablet/phone interaction (looking at a site on your computer? Tap your iPhone to it and the website shows up on your phone). There's also the near field payments I'm hearing about on iPhones; this gets a lot better if it's in iPads and Macs too... not so they can make a payment, but RECEIVE a payment. If every Mac (and iPad) was a Point Of Sale system out of the box, that would be pretty neat. A whole ecosystem of making and taking payments.

A 3G radio like the one in the ViPhone makes a hell of a lot of sense, in that it can offer CDMA or GSM options.

I don't see them releasing a update as big as removing the SuperDrive w/o some special type of event. The change is just too big to make it an Apple Store update.

Still called iSight

I would be interested in them, but as Apple is starting to feel more like a hardcore monopoly than Microsoft ever did.... With no Blu-Ray and locking down program sales on iphone/ipads, censoring software that can be used on devices.

I am starting to think of getting an HP Beats laptop or maybe a Sony Vaio as a replacement for my MBP.

it's a shame because it feels like their nice hardware is being under-utilized by all these restrictions. imagine what it could be like with a totally open ios etc.

MacBookPro with BladeSSD + HDD

I'm going to go with a blade SSD for the OS and apps (instant boot up like MBA) and regular HDD for mass storage.

How are you comparing iOS to OSX? Jailbreak iOS and its completely open. OSX is a completely open OS as is?

Guess I was thinking of the MacBook Air, and that they applied it to the entire Mac line. The Tech Specs for the Air show "FaceTime Camera".

Looks to be a case of a naming transition. I'm sure when they refresh the MBP line, it too will be called a FaceTime camera. Wonder what this does for PhotoBooth.

Is it really so far fetched to believe that Apple won't start locking down Mac OSX also? Sorry i just believe a hardware and OS company ought not be putting these restrictions on their end users/ customers.

I ought to be able to install anything i want on any of my devices, whether Mac, iPad, iPhone.

Also, i believe Apple is starting to be a complete hardass about royalties for anything sold or subscribed to for use on their devices. Don't even get me started on the censorship and disabling of possibilities.

There ought to be a better way. maybe it actually is freer and less monopolistic with Microsoft?

Also... last time i checked Apple is making money hand over fist, i just don't get why they have to own a piece of everything. it is anti-competitive, hostile to their end users and other companies.

Finally

I was going this weekend to get a new MBP but since I guess these will be coming out soon I can wait for the newest ones.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the FaceTime cameras are lower megapixel than the iSight cameras.

You talk about Apple's products like they are a necessity to your life and they owe you something. All great companies make a product THEIR way. They keep a tight rein on the quality control and refuse to let anyone drag them down. If a piece of crap software makes a computer constantly crash, are you going to blame the software or the computer, especially when you probably don't know the software is the problem? Look at how people with crappy internet connections instantly blame Apple for the long wait times they have on rentals with the Apple TV. Apple can't control ISPs and how people set up their networks but they take all the heat when the experience isn't perfect. Things are better when Apple has the most quality control. If you don't like that, build your own computer. It's a free world.

oh hell yeah, I just got a new job too! Can't wait to see what's new. My mom needs a new computer and she'll be getting my old 2.4 Unibody if I end up getting a new 17" MBP or a refurb i7 17" MBP.

This is getting ridiculous. Let me start a rumor:

"The next iteration of [Apple product] will be an improved version of the current one!"

*Though our reports say Apple may have removed a feature that will upset a vocal minority!

Wow is that annoying on the mobile site. The thumbs up image is just a link with text saying to click this to view image.
Might want to fix that macrumors.

9to5mac reported the SuperDrive would be optional, which I'd def. be okay with. I'd get mine with-- while I don't use it too often, it's really inconvenient to not have one when I need it.

Not another ODD thread, and yet I contribute...I'd opt out only if they fill the space with something useful.
