To people who work or are familiar with Best Buy:

Is it possible to get the educational discount on a Macbook at a BB store? or are those only available online at the Apple Store.

Are educational discounts usually available right away?

sweet mother of god i dont care what they announce when can i physically purchase it? any guesses?

It's always different. Sometimes it ships right away, sometimes in a month. You will probably be able to order online immediately after the event though.

Educational discounts are available right away.

I have no experience with Best Buy.

Its great that I live in the same time zone as the anouncement. I get time to sleep. Now only if these rumour posting would stop so I can go to bed. That would be nice :)

Many people do use laptops for games though. A laptop and an external keyboard and mouse would be perfect for many people.

I game all the time on my laptop with only a mouse and headphones. I have no need for a desktop, nor will I ever.

As much as I would like to see FireWire on MacBooks because it is far superior to USB 2.0, I can understand why they would get rid of it. Apple wants you to go up to a MacBook Pro, and if they got rid of the FireWire it is because they feel they will make more money from it.

Also, I think Apple is a forward thinking company, and in the long run they have a plan.

And to the people complaining about not being able to do this or that because of no FireWire, the FireWire port on your MacBook will continue to function even after these are released. Nothing is keeping you from using it. So stop typing in all caps and making  faces because you don't get exactly what you want.

I will just add that I do not like the appearance of the new supposed Macbook Pro. I would rather have silver keys, but otherwise, I think the case itself is fine. It's the display I really don't like. I'm not a fan of the black border, and there seems to be too much wasted space around the screen. At the very least, I hope there is a matte option.

The specs of these machines sound really good though! I am willing to give them a chance. Well, I'll probably buy one tomorrow regardless, since I just sold my original Intel Macbook Pro. I can't imagine the new ones will look that hideous.

could the monitor connect be wireless?

could the lack of a firewire port be inaccurate, and instead the macbooks would lack a monitor connect which be be achieved wirelessly. can the firewire port support a mini-dv special connect?

So the cheapest MB available tomorrow will be $1299? Ouch, Apple really knows how to get the extra money out of people's pockets if they want one right now.

Ouch.

Hopefully the "cheap" MB ships soon.

No offense, but you sound like a person who could easy afford a MacBook Pro.

I'm afraid it's always like that, with the first adopters paying more.
