would the windows programs be able to tell the format? And could you give me some examples of DvD burning apps for windows?

In terms of iDVD for something on the PC, there is nothing, N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

That's why MAC presentations look so groovy, and trust me, I am anti mac in terms of closed proprietary systems, but since the user base of the MACs are so small compared to PC users, this is why PC users are so woooowed at MAC dvd presentations as knowone knows the templates.

There is nothing close to iDVD for the PC.

Nothing!

...great? The photo in this thread is just a wallpaper, though...not even anything as sophisticated as a skin.

Well to be fair there is windows movie maker but that is nothing special at all But there are many free programs that do what iDVD does.. I never really liked iDVD at all that is why I do all my editing and converting on my mac but then put it on dvd on my pc because I like the software for dvd more on my pc.

Apple should take note of this Sony? I think apple should take some of the good pages out Sony from this laptop. Blue-ray dvd support, express and pc card slot. I would for sure get the 17in mbp if it had those features.

Not to continue with the whole integrated graphics ranting, but do you guys think the 950 will be good enough to run all of the eyecandy leopard will have?

Could anybody running bootcamp on a macbook donwload the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor Beta tool and report what it says regarding the intel 950???

I know it will not be accurate in anyway, but I guess it will give us an idea, as leopard will probably use effects somewhat similar to those on vista.

I tried it on my geforce 4200 with 64mb card and it said I needed to upgrade my video card to be able to use aero... And as far as I'm aware this card(being old and all) is somewhat faster and better than the intel 950...

You mean that Vista will have effects similar to Leopard right? :D

it pretty much is better in 3d.

The 4200 is indeed better in 3d, much better. I can run pretty much any game i've thrown at it at playable framerates... With farcry the only effects not active are the directx9 stuff... but anything else is on at high... WOW, without a hitch, hl2 on medium, and pretty much any game out there... and its on a PM 1.6 with 512 of ram...

I need a Macbook by early september for uni purposes, I would like one now obviously but I can hold out.

The question is do you think that there'll be a revision out before then? Any chance of Merom or even anything minor? I've never owned a Mac or kept up to date with hardware news so I have no idea how long it usually takes revisions to come out.

I would say wait until the last moment and get a MacBook with the 2Gb memory and the 120-160 Gb disk if you can afford it (around $1620 with the 120). Of course I'm not talking about the Apple store for the upgrades, read previous posts. I'm sure that a machine like that could fill your needs for uni pretty much along your career (unless you need some specialized program for quantum physic or similar lol). Normal usage like word processing, presentations, internet and networking along with some gaming should be easily accomplished with the MacBook.
By september I don't know if there will be a revision B but if you are really desperate to have one get it now and upgrade the memory and the disk later.

LOL, yeah, better frased... but vista comes out first though...

Maybe I'm wrong but with the actual delays I think Vista will come out after Leopard and considering that Apple is ahead of all the announced machine releases will not surprise me that we will see Leopard at Macworld 2007 (early January).

I like it! I think they made 2 mistakes......no express card and you can't add a BTO superdrive on the lowend model. It is hard for me to go to the next model up ,being $200 more, when I was already passing my $800 limit that I was going to buy a Mini with. Apple makes you spend $200 to get a $50 upgrade!

Improper Use Of Link Button Or Not At All

Improperly entered the link so it won't work. Use the link button, after copying the link from your browser, to paste the link into highlighted text so you wind up with a properly working link. I am at the site but can't find the article you reference above.

Merom November Probably

My opinion is Merom will go into these by November - after they are put @2.33GHz in MacBook Pros since September to further differentiate. Book from Book Pro.

I agreee with nem3015, wait until you can't wait any longer then pull the trigger if you must on this Yonah MB, add a pair of Omni OPTIVAL sticks for $144 and a Seagate 160 for $300 and you will be set for your academic career.

Just to keep things a little seperate for now, here is a link to another topic I just started:

It appears that some are already have problems with Black models flaking paint.

I would keep sticking with the white and put those extra 200 buck on memory and disk. Btw I'm not going out there showing a mac notebook just because is black... I like mac because of the system and usability not for fashion lol (I'm only been a mac user since 1984 so what I know about that...? lol):D

Doesn't mention macs but wondering if apply too?...
Maybe Apple will incorporate it on a firmware revision or something... also wondering if you apply the patch after starting bootcamp and windows... ohhhh so many new questions with intel processors lol :D

The fix for that goes into the OS, not the firmware so its not for Apple to fix. Its a Microsoft bug (aren't they all). The fix is done already, you can download it now.

You never "Start" Bootcamp. Bootcamp just aids the installation and provides the right drivers, once you have installed windows, its doing just that....
booting Microsoft Windows like any other PC. So yes, you just install the patch after windows boots.

Thanks. The article contains a typo on page 5. It says:

The mere fact that a notebook boots up faster when equipped with a 5400-rpm drive justifies the higher price, in our opinion.

It should say:
The mere fact that a notebook boots up faster when equipped with a 7200-rpm drive justifies the higher price, in our opinion.

That's "almost" my strategy for my daughter. She enters college in mid August. We'll get her a MacBook 1.83MHz/60GB in June. Then we'll upgrade to 2GB of cheap RAM and a Seagate 160GB Momentus 5400.3 drive when the Momentus comes out. I can't imagine that Apple will "bump" the MacBook's specs between June and early August.

A superdrive and a step-up to the next processor are a $50 upgrade?;)

Oh...lol! What I ment that all I want is a $50 upgrade but to get the upgrade I have to spend $200 for the next level up:rolleyes:

If I get my 1K scholarship to highschool I will probably get the middle end model.

Shame on me for not finding this thread earlier. I saw mention of the MacBook last week and thought it was a joke, so I went to the Apple site and looked it up. Nifty that they have the Black MacBook for the most expensive one (kind of a status symbol). I still think the MacBook Pro looks better and hopefully I can get one in the Fall, but if it comes down to not having enough money for a MBP, I may settle for the Black MacBook.
