You had to know this was coming. I still love the look of my 3 year old Macbook, but it's jarring next to the current gen of Macbooks.

Can't wait to see what they come up with.

Hope the polycarb stays. better wifi and more durable. Idk why people have such a boner for thinner stuff. Its thin enough. The thinner you make it, the more problems you have. i.e.-weak uni hinges-limited HDD options-heat problems...

If Mercedes can make a "low-end" version of a car with lower quality parts, then Apple can make "low-end" laptop with cheaper parts. You get the Mercedes/Apple look and the Mercedes/Apple badge but with the "cheaper" components.

I'm not saying if this is a good thing or not. However, personally, I would rather pay more for a better built machine.

Kind of like the BMW 1 Series. Or the Cadillac Catera. Meh.

What Mercedes car are you talking about there ? :) (Unless you mean the Smart car, which neither has the look nor the badge of a Mercedes).

germany Mercedes are your everyday car and they have all kinds of models to choose from. in the US they only sell "luxury" models which just means it's an overpriced Chrysler with a few options

It would be good to see it become a cheaper offering with a bit more space to the 13" MBP. Wonder where it will fit in pricewise with the tablet?

One feature I would like to see on this is the one piece trackpad with no button like the alu ones.

I'd like to have a cheaper MacBook. Something which has enough power for everyday tasks like iTunes, Safari, e-mail, iPhoto etc.

Apple was definitely needing to add at least 1 more lower end macbook to the line. And I think all macbooks should be in the sub-$1000 class to provide alternative cheaper options.

Here's what I am hoping for one the pricing of apple's sub-$1000 market

iphone 8gb -$99
iphone 16gb -$199
iphone 32gb -$299
itouch 64gb -$399
*N/A -$499
itablet 6inch -$599
itablet 10inch -$699
**??? -$799
macbook -$899
macbook -$999

*I think there will be a slight price gap here.
**this could either be nothing, high end tablet, low end macbook, or both.

also, who would buy a mini for $699 when you get a MB for $799?
If I bought a mini, it would be to use it as a media/print server on my network, which is something I'd never use a notebook computer for. Although I'm sure there are some people who buy a mini just so they can have a cheap Mac to use, most people probably have them as a supplemental machine.

Google Mercedes a class, or even b class, both cheaper than the c class, which I believe has gotten cheaper and less of a Mercedes in time.

Yes, yes, I know, but...

Tablet... and a netbook made out of the white MacBook? I just don't know about that.

who said anything about netbooks?

Mercedes A and B-class most likely. And while they are "cheap" Mercs, they are still good cars.

I hope they make it a black carbon fiber. That would be awesome. Losing the optical drive an FW would be a deal-killer for me though. Why won't Apple make a durable, plastic Pro model? Some of us really need it.
