I'll accept your apology when in 2050 Apple is no longer selling a white plastic MacBook. :p

And as with any rumor, believe it when you see it.

I'll probably be discontinued by then. ;)

I just wish you wouldn't keep posting your opinions as fact. It would help save you from a lot of the hassle you get on here.

It's a rumors site. Nothing here is the truth.

I'd think it would be easier for the people who keep harassing me to stop, as I'm the only one who they harass when someone is incorrect.

I can't see anything radical changing really. I wouldn't say it looks particularly dated and comparing MB and MBP (13") is just plain silly, different market segments, different design. It's still pretty thin as it is now as well and compared to the PC market it's still pretty good quality. Making it metal doesn't make it amazing.

At most I'd say add a lower spec CPU to it, eg 2 Ghz and then add options to spec up to maybe 2.23 like the Mac Mini. 2 GB Ram standard and 160 GB HDD. Bring the price down to maybe £600. Can't see a radical redesign of it when it's a fairly recognisable design.

My guess is that the new MacBooks will be netbook-like:
  • have a Unibody case
  • have an Atom processor (requiring Snow Leopard)
  • have a Intel 9400M, maybe with a 9600M option.
  • drop the optical drive (you can buy the external drive made for the MBA)
  • come in 10" and 13", maybe also in 15"

My guess about the MacBook Air is that it will live on for some time, targeted at those who believe they need a faster CPU and the small size, and that it will eventually be dropped.

Since when is FireWire considered "high end"? 2004? It's pretty much on every consumer camcorder you can buy.

It would seem daft to drop Firewire while the Mini still has it. They might as well wait until they can add USB 3 before dropping firewire in any of their computers now, if they must.

Anyway, it's obviously just speculation at this point. Cheaper, non-plastic entry-level MacBooks would be a good thing though.

Do you guys ever post your own news... or do you always just report what Appleinsider says? Seems like the majority of your articles start out with "Appleinsider reports..."

Just noticed after re-reading the AI original that they mention it getting slimmer. I wonder if this could become the MacBook Air for the rest of us. Sort of a cross between ultra portable and Netbook with a 13" screen for less than the current model?

so the MS TV ads are working and apple needs a cheap laptop?

still i can get a Dell with a 15" backlit LCD for $700. cheaper if i get it with an old CPU

Of course you can.. it's junk. Junk tends to be cheaper than quality products.

You are kind of overt about it though. ;)

I myself am waiting for a new Macbook. My 2-year old Macbook is starting to show its age. And boy does it gather dirt.

If the higher end models went from plastic to Aluminum, its only obvious that their lower end counterparts are going to go from plastic to wood.

Introducing the all new MacBook Bamboo. Doesn't that sound just awesome when you pronounce it?

It'll be neat to see how they update it. There's a lot of potential there.

(Make it literally Apple-shaped?)
