The Mini DisplayPort supports video AND audio. Hopefully this will be across the line so that Apple can introduce their own HDMI adapters.

The NZ education price for the macbook is the same price as not getting an education discount but this should probably change.

$1326 for the 13inch macbook upgraded to 4gb
$1399 for the base macbook pro.

$70 gets you firewire 800 and an aluminium case. Ridiculous.

*sigh* I remember when entry level macbooks were £650. I'm fed up of my crappy economy!

"for just £50 more, you'd be a fool NOT to get the 'pro'!"

edit: these the product numbers the aussies saw earlier?

The Product page is updated in Canada, well sorta.

It says [NEW]Hz : 250GB on the page and theres no "new" sticker over its picture.

Too bad I just ordered a new MBP on Sunday night :( Coulda saved $200.

edit: Price seems to be cheaper ($1049 from $1099) but education pricing is still $999.

At one point the MacBook was a really interesting machine. I have one from when it was seen as being versatile but importantly CHEAP and it had more I/O (Firewire, audio in). Please btw don't tell me Firewire is a Pro feature when the Mac Mini has FW800.

Now? I was in the Apple Store yesterday and it's so glossy (off putting) and suffering from the expandability the older models have over it, not to mention being £200 more expensive.

Yawn fest indeed, what happened to making the best product possible?

Before I used the MacBook as my primary work horse back in the middle part of the decade as it contains some of the ports that you can also find on the Pro model back in its time. But now I can see that the MacBook is being relegated down to the pecking order. But still for non-pro I think it is still a very decent machine.

Apple took their 13" Macbook line and split it up into three models - the Macbook, the Air, and the Pro. I think they're still trying to reach the same consumers who bought the original Macbook, but segmented the product line a bit more to cater to people who wished it was cheaper, or lighter.

So instead of one product with different configurations from $999US to $1500US like it used to be, we have three different models that do different things for different people at wide price ranges.

I have a 2006 MacBook that is going strong (especially since I updated to Snow Leopard and added an SSD), but if I had to upgrade today, I can find a configuration among the three models that would suit my needs.

This is cool. and on a Tuesday like normal. I was really hoping this was going to be a macbook air update though.

Well I don't know about your universities, but for me (Sussex University), the Macbook used to be £700, and now it's £730. The Macbook Pro 13" is £860.
I was unsure as to which one to buy, but considering that the Macbook with a 4GB upgrade comes to £800, I am now 100% sure I am getting the Pro. For only £60, difference, there's no contest.

a lot of you are complaining that the only difference now between the white and the base level mbp is the firewire and aluminum. But what about the SD card slot AND the illuminated keyboard ;] :)?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Well this makes the Vietnamese link on the iPhone 4 very believable IMHO.

Yep, I don't see why anyone with any idea of what they were buying (and even then the people who don't understand will read PRO) would get the base level macbook any more.

Cute but too expensive and too white … I'd like to see it in black again.

Yeah and the color is the only reason to buy it... pricing (after upgrade to 4GB RAM) is almost the same...
So for almost the same price you get the 13" MBP...
I just can't see a 13" MacBook PRO any more

iMac specs old in comparison - new models soon?

First the MacBook Pro 13" and now the MacBook.

I wonder when we will see an iMac refresh with the NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics. And maybe new processors.
