Looks really incredible, that form factor of a wide screen 18.8" screen would never be conducive to being hauled around without folding. Hopefully they figure out some sort of keyboard attachment, if you look at current foldable PC laptops they have varying hardware keyboard solutions, some of which seem to work well.

The BIG question is if a touch screen will be supported, it would be somewhat laughable to have this fold out then have no touchscreen, but it wouldn't surprise me. Still, maybe Apple is gearing up for a touch based MacOS? Or will this in reality have iPadOS?

FYI just to add why is everyone up in arms over the keyboard? Just make a magnetic keyboard that slots in when closed and/or when in a clamshell position, pop it out to use it when completely unfolded, done.

I’m curious to see what the markets appetite for this really is. For me, it’s a pretty hard pass. I require a physical keyboard to be truly productive, and this will be another device Apple will use as an opportunity to sell an absurdly expensive one (see Apple Magic Keyboard).
They’ve been working on keyboard patents for a device like this forever. So it’s very possible that there will be some groundbreaking tech involved that will solve that “typing on glass” problem.

It has to have a touchscreen. They need support for a full touch keyboard, also: no one in their right mind would buy an all-screen device with no touch capability 😂

This is what we get instead of an iPad with a real OS that allows us to use it as a tablet or computer. This somehow is going to be a Mac with MacOS that also is touch based and we can convert it into a tablet. Somehow I don’t think this is better than just giving us the ability to run MacOS or Mac apps on the iPad Pro.
THIS!!!!
I have never seen a more stubborn, pigheaded company than Apple. iPad OS should really just be under the hood a far lighter version of MacOS but with universal things between the two for a seamless experience and iPad OS should at least have 10% of the competency of say MacOS 1.0 which it does not - and that OS would take up the size of an image file today.

Less than two hours after Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said a MacBook with either an 18.8-inch or 20.2-inch foldable screen would launch in 2026, display industry expert Ross Young has said the device will indeed feature around an 18.8-inch screen.

A foldable-screen MacBook concept by Astropad

In a post on social media platform X, limited to his paying subscribers, Young said he expects the device to be equipped with an 18.76-inch display instead of a 20.25-inch display for "cost reasons." In a folded position, Kuo said an 18.8-inch MacBook would be similar in size to a traditional 13-inch or 14-inch MacBook.

It is expected that a MacBook with a foldable screen would feature an all-screen design with a virtual keyboard, but exact design details have yet to be rumored.

Kuo said Apple is aiming to make the foldable screen "as crease-free as possible," and he said this could result in the device being nearly as expensive as Apple's Vision Pro headset, which starts at $3,499. He also said the foldable-screen MacBook will be equipped with Apple's next-generation M5 chip, which has yet to be announced.

It seems like a foldable-screen MacBook is still a few years away, and Apple will firm up its plans for the device as its launch gets closer.

HARD PASS!

Well that's pretty obvious that they would have an onscreen keyboard *IF* it was a touchscreen, I just doubt they would release it without a physical keyboard accessory. This is Apple we are talking about, it would be a separate $399 keyboard. But I totally agree, this would be a non-buy without a touchscreen, which is why I find the entire rumor of it having MacOS incredibly fascinating.

Correct, it is obvious but not everyone is putting that together.

Again, Apple has had patents dating back years for all kinds of keyboards that rise up and become more tactile. We'll see if this is the product that brings those to fruition or if they need to give it some kind of physical keyboard. I hope not because then it's just an iPad with Magic Keyboard on steroids.

You think it’s funny. I think it’s a waste of power to not allow us to run MacOS apps at a minimum. The apps are the point. There’s no reason to not allow us to install apps we want. We bought them. I think Apple under Tim is a big bully. I can’t wait to see the company torn apart for the evil ways, bullying, theft of other developers apps, and etc.

I buy the device I should be able to do whatever I want with it. And people who think otherwise are just protecting Apple like it’s their baby. It’s a corporation that does no good to employees and acts like a monopoly in the marketplace. The only people making money are executives who get stock like Tim and the shareholders. That’s not good for society.

Apple equals capitalism at its worst.
You really think Tim is the one that makes that decision?
What would you do first if Mac OS was on iPad? Please don’t say file

You understand apple didn’t release what ever people are
Talking about not even a render
And you are putting so much effort talking about a make believe device.

Worried about the crease factor as others have stated earlier, but not with the virtual keyboard.

As some others have stated, many of us have been typing on iPad glass for years with success and few issues. For myself i feel I would adapt quite quickly.

That's very iffy to me. You're talking about part of the screen that will be flat on the surface of your desk/lap. Looking down at that will be awkward.

Meanwhile haptics still don't replace the feeling of an actual keyboard. Can you remember why, for example, we have those two bumps on the F and J keys...?

When it’s open fully it’s a tablet. That to me is a best of both worlds idea.

Lenovo and Asus have already came out with their dual/3 screen laptops. It’s not an earth shattering concept.

Seems to me this is more likely to be a folding iPad, which maybe helps to explain why the new iPad Pros are so thin. Maybe this is all part of the evolution.

so basically a touch first macOS device with no keyboard. Maybe they will push forward bluetooth keyboards.

This guy is too funny, he is upset about something that doesn’t exist. The macrumors forums are funny…
Can sum it up with this
Everything cost way too much
Mac OS needs to be on iPad, the if you ask specifically what they need Mac OS on iPad, all they say is file management ,
also this doesn't mean macbook pros design is changing this is a different type of device like vision pro is.

I swear too many people are stuck on the past and don't want new tech to exist. just stupid on all levels. new tech is great and enjoyable doesn't mean everybody has to buy it

I cannot believe Apple will release this as a MacBook with a virtual keyboard. It makes no sense. How is this better than a 14’ MacBook? I hope Apple has something else up their sleeve that will surprise us.
who said it needs to be better? it's another option for those who may want it. it's not replacing the 14 and 16 inch macbook pro

FYI just to add why is everyone up in arms over the keyboard? Just make a magnetic keyboard that slots in when closed and/or when in a clamshell position, pop it out to use it when completely unfolded, done.
you know what this place is like people don't like change and any new tech is seen as pointless
