I'd asked the same question at a store a few years back. They'll help you customize it, but they don't do the modification at the store. It's essentially the same as ordering it online. The only advantage I can see is that you *may* be able to pick it up in the store, eliminating have to sign for it from the delivery company.

I ended up getting mine through my company, so I don't know if BTO orders from the store can be delivered throught the store.

For what it's worth, it's worth a call to Apple to see if you get a discount. They aren't mind blowing, but saving some money is certainly better than saving no money.

When I worked at an Apple Store a couple years ago we were not allowed to have any product ordered at the online store delivered to the local Apple Store for customer pickup. I'd imagine it's the same everywhere else.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already (I'm not about to read 20 pages of posts) but the 12 inch powerbook now says 5-7 buisness days waiting with *any* upgrades, including a simple ram upgrade. This has to be a sign that a replacement is near...:D

It ships in 24 hours. When you upgrade the ram it takes longer. 5-7 days is a little bit much... but it's not saying anything.

whyBook?

how happy am i to hear of a new item from apple computer. if it is a macbook, then double the power. i love my i gigahertz ibook with slow ati 9200 graphix, so this new one which i'm quite sure my girlfriend will get will be a wink. even integrated intel graphix are much better than what i've got and more current with direct x. if it comes out on the 9th, great, but what would be better is if it comes out when it is properly ready: no heat issues, screens that sing with iTunes or silly puddy heat spread. re-design, re-name, great as long as it re-creates the feel of quality and style that old one has but with more of both.

Is there any chance they'll release a 13.3 inch MacBook Pro on tuesday as well?

Please apple, PLEASE!!!

Duff-Man says...why? You've already said you are not buying anything until next year...why do you care, and more importantly, why should Apple now cater to someone that is not buying something from the current offerings?...oh yeah!

Just cross your fingers and hope Apple doesn't misapply thermal grease on the MacBooks too...:)

oh yeah, hopefully I won't need to BTO anything and would be able to pick one up at the Des Peres Apple Store on the 26th after getting back from Germany :D

I'll be happy to be proven wrong on this but I really think the new iBook will be getting a nice little special event for it's launch considering it's arguably Apple's most important Mac model.

I think you will definitely be proven correct !!!
It would be very odd for apple to release this product on Tuesday at E3..very odd. That being said, I still hope they release it Tuesday.

I have a VERY reliable source who would lose his/her job If I told you who it was..But this is what's in those do not open until Tuesday packs...
WOW!! now thats what I call a WIDE SCREEN!! and check out that floppy drive...way to go apple..I Love it already..Holy, did they ever redesign this baby...I guess all the rumors are right...
OH,,and it comes in blue toooo.

that's kindof lame of Apple, to "push" sales of a product that's about to become obsolete in 2 days.

I bought the last gen iBook 14"...rather, I ordered it and had to wait almost three weeks for it to ship. It shipped 45 minutes before they announced the latest gen (for $200 less with more standard RAM, larger HD, etc.). I called Apple and pissed all over the customer service rep about how dare they ship it , literally, minutes before announcing the new one. They took it back without a restock charge and cross-shipped me the new one immediately.

I'm writing this on my (old) 1GHz 12" iBook that I'm selling to a client next week. Gonna get me a Ferrari red MacBook. ;)

If they release a 13.3 inch MacBook Pro now, I can rest in peace knowing that when I buy a computer, that will be one of my options.

no more iBook or PB 12 refurbs

Has anyone noticed that there are no longer any PB 12 or iBook refurbs available?

I just checked out apple.com and .ca

It's probably just a coincidence (there is still an iBook refurb for sale in France)

I love the retro look and feel. Reminds me of something from the '80s. Very cool. Can't wait to get one ASAP. Way to go Apple on a truly original design. :p
