I've been waiting for ages too.. but, it seems the 13.3" Macbook in the same case/colour as the 15"/17" MBP isn't going to happen. :(

The update

May 6, 2006

Additional sources have confirmed the MacBook's announcement this Tuesday. Further, sources report that the MacBook will be thinner than current iBooks, will be available in both black and white configurations, and will likely cost slightly more than previous iBook models—not unlike the price increase Apple's Mac mini saw with its transition to Intel processors. End

This is the first time I think it may be true..Only because I believe the price hike and the black and white like the ipods..
I'm still not convinced it will be Tuesday..
This is wild the rumors are flyin like mad.

Am I the only one who doesn't buy this bit? A 16:9 aspect ratio wouldn't make any sense when practically *all* computer widescreen displays are 16:10. Old Powerbooks were 15:10 but that was fixed last autumn... The MacBook display will be 1280x768.

Don't get me wrong, I would love nothing better than there just being two aspect ratios - 4:3 and 16:9. But that's not how it is in reality...

If Apple are sticking with a 16x10 aspect ration (which I think they will), then the correct resolution will be 1280x800.

Is there a way I can contact apple and let them know that if they don't make a 13.3 inch MBP it'll be the biggest mistake in corporate history?

I'm happy with my powerbook, have no plans on purchasing a new laptop, and yet can't seem to stop checking MR every hour for new info on the MacBook.

Is this normal? healthy?

Completely normal. I'm not getting a new laptop until MWSF 2007, and I still can't wait for the macbook's to be released.

Hope Springs Eternal

I hope this rumour is true, 'cause the MacBook will be my first Mac, whenever it comes out!

After I got my iPod, and fell in love with it , I decided to try out more Apple products, and have been holding out for the new iBook. I'm really excited about this one. :)

Thanks for repeating the specs I had already given, notably the black/white duo...my "sources" are always good...

Just to restate my predictions:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/198096/

"As I am the master of information, I will tell ya what is gonna happen...

The PB 12" and the iBook lines will be merged - result? No more iBook 14" or PB 12"...only the MacBook 13.3" widescreen in 3 main models:

Ugly - Core Solo/GMA 950/Combo/40Gb - $ 999

Bad - Core Duo/GMA 950/Combo/60Gb - $ 1299

Good - Core Duo/X1300/Superdrive/80Gb - $ 1499

AP Extreme/BT/512Mb/iSight/FR/Remote/MagSafe standard across the line.

Colors: Snow/Graphite

Please check this post after the MB launched, OK?"

Try again.

I really doubt thats right. That would mean Apple wouldn't have a Superdrive laptop for under 1500, or under about 1700 CAN, which would be a huge mistake.

Apple will use the MacBook 13.3 inch to replace all the existing PowerPC laptops. iBook 12 & 14, and PowerBook 12.

The new laptop will come in black and white, and will have 2 types:

Type 1, $999 USD. Intel core duo, SuperDrive, iSight, 60 GB, etc.

Type 2, $1249 USD. Intel core duo, SuperDrive, iSight, 80 GB, etc. Faster than type 1.

My theory is that Apple is just going to stop producing Combo drives, and just have Super drives.

Thats what I think.

[edit] I also think that in the next 2 months they'll release a Intel tower. MacBox or something.

Is the ATI x1300 a bad card, because on the back of a few games I have they don't support the 1300. They have x300, x550 etc etc. just curious

Customer: Well, I need a decently powered laptop that isn't too expensive.

Sales Rep. Well, we have for $1249 a very decent MacBook that has a superdrive an 80GB hard drive and everything.

Customer: Well I want more than that. I can afford more than $1249.

Sales Rep: Alright, then you're looking at $750 more for the lowest end MacBook Pro.

Customer: ...... uh,, okay then. I think i'll go buy from a company that has a powerful laptop for less than $1999!!! Bye.

edit: In other words, you're dead wrong. There is going to be a macbook or macbook pro that costs $1499. That's for sure.

They might make a MacBook Pro around 1500, but not a MacBook.

If your guess is right, Apple would be ruling out a lot of students, parents buying there kids a first computer, etc.

Bottem line, we'll [hopefully] see on Tuesday!
:)

I dont have an iBook, and honestly never really bothered checking them out in the locla Apple Stores; I've got a 12" PB that I may upgrade once I see what the new products is... I do have a Black ipod and the only gripe about it is the fingerprints - (I keep it in a clear plastic case just to keep it clean)

Anyway, with the speculation being ipod black, would it be the same fingerprint ridden material? is the current iBook the same material as a white iPod or is it different? (finger prints werent' nearly as bad when I had a white iPod)...

Chances are I'll probably stick with my 12" PB or get a 15.4" MBP.. i just love the feel of the keyboard and have read that the ibook wasn't that great (comparitively)... I'm picky about laptop keyboards. :)

today i've been to the Apple Store in Sheffield - asked they chap there if they had any boxes in the back with a sticker on it saying do not open until Tuesday May 9th on it

the look on his face was priceless - i was expecting a weird stare but he went bright red :D the conversation then went on to me maybe buying an iBook but after a while he said might be best if you wait a few weeks to see if anything gets released:cool:

They have to have a $1500 laptop that has a video card in it. That's a fact.

Whether it'll be a MacBook Pro or a MacBook, we have yet to see.

everybody repeats his specs, so do i:
a few days i posted the following...

>>>>>
13.3 macbook single core 1.67, white, $999
13.3 macbook dual core 1.67 (maybe bto 1.83), igp, white, $1249
13.3 macbook pro, dual core 1.83 (maybe bto 2.0), x1?00, black $1499-1699

at the same time mbp gets a speedbump to 2.0 and 2.13 (think about the price of the 17 mbp)
<<<<<

i have no sources, but thats what i would do if i were SJ :)

edit: meanwhile i think the $999 macbook will only have a 1.5 solo instead

Ac/dc

If they come out with black iBooks or black versions of any Mac and they do not use the Back in Black song from AC/DC I will be extremely disappointed.

They're not gonna have a black macbook pro, and two white macbooks. Whatever they release will be available in both black and white, unless they release an aluminum 13.3 inch macbook pro. That's what I would want.

i just have the feeling that a mb and a mbp "must" look different. a manager with a 13.3 mbp doesn't want to have the same "macbook" as the student on an internship in the company.
To reduce the costs i would use the same case for the mb and the mbp. changing the color isn't a big deal, so why not.

but we will see...with a little bit of luck tuesday

in the end i don't care about the color at all- if it is purple i'll buy it anyway, as long it has dedicated graphic @reasonable price

Coincidence.

My greatest fear is that all these coincidences., are just that... Coincidences. I am really looking forward to this release but week by week loosing more and more faith, I just really hope that this big surprise isnt just the RHCP album and associated iPod gear, as it would be another let down for the MacRumors gang.

Just my 2 pence
