first post here, i wanted to chime in on this issue.

i really like the specs on the mpb high, but its too big for me as i'm starting college in august and i'd like a 13.3" screen. apple, can i please have the high mbp specs in a smaller package? pretty please?

i've been waiting just as long as anybody else here for the MacBook as I've been saving up my money for this since January when the mbp was released. i really hope that something happens in terms of the MacBook on tuesday, and if they do schedule a press release, you know i'm going to try and skip to watch that.

btw, what do you think they'll say to me if i call the eaton center apple store and ask them whats in the mysterious do not open until may 9th boxes? i think they may be just a little bit freaked out by a call from indiana, but being that its a new store, the manager may be a little dim and tell me (pending that they have opened it already or just happen to know from another source)

Being a new store they will be more likely to follow the rules more than anyone else, for fear of loosing the franchise and getting a nice letter in the post from Steve's lawyer (i presume that is how the apple store operates - under franchises). The idea is nice though.

Okay, I give in -- my predictions...

I guess since everyone else is making their predictions, I'll make mine just for the heck of it.

2 Models in Snow and Graphite:

*$1099 1.6 ghz core duo, 60mb hd, integrated graphics, combo drive, 512 mb
*$1399 1.8 ghz core duo, 80mb hd, integrated graphics, super drive, 1 gb

Thoughts:

1) Chips: With the upcoming decrease in price of Intel Core Duo chips and faster versions available, I expect the solo to be bumped from the Mac line-up entirely. This will create a temporary overlap with the MBPs, but I expect the processors in the MBPs to be upgraded in the next few weeks, all faster than the MacBook.

2) Graphics: All graphics will be integrated due to the overhead cost of designing, manufacturing, and maintaining inventory of 2 seperate motherboards. The integrated chips will also reduce heat and promote battery life, which for 95% of the customers buying these things are more important than 3-D graphics. For those of you upset by this, go for a refurbished MBP.

3) Price: Expect a $100 bump from the current iBooks, as happened with the Mac Mini, first due to the more expensive Intel chips, and second because Apple believes they can get the $100 for the quality and sleekness of their product.

4) Only two models (either of which can be customized)

5) I'll bend a little on the combo drive -- Apple may give those up all together. It's just that they still use it on the Mini that makes me think they'll use it on the Macbook -- for people who consume media rather than produce it.

Let the spin go on!

Macbook

I've been looking forward to the second release of the MBP's (hopefully with merom), but these new MB's have caught my attenion and I've seriously been considering looking at one. Does any one know if it might have the back lit keyboard? that's one of my favorite features...

arrgg this is so ****** wrong.
This isnt rumors anymore, this is just a wishlist everyone wants to see.
Like Think Secret with there rumor: ITS GOING TO BE THINNER THAN THE IBOOK
Ow common!!, well ive got a newsflash for you!
THE NEW MACBOOK IS GOING TO BE FASTER THAN THE IBOOK!
now lets discuss everything again from a to z what everyone wants!
All these rumors sites have let us down for the beginning of this stupid macbook rumor, januari? march? 1st april? june? o maybe may? common why cant there be more quality news/rumors than just guessing a date every time??
Just put the first rumor on top so everyone can post in there.
Its the same every time, why do you people keep posting 'predictions' of specs that are almost as high as macbook pro for $500 less. aint gonna happen.
And just to let you know, i have a hard time waiting like all of you but this is going nowhere. im sure you agree with me

I do agree it's going nowhere, but it's fun to talk about anyway ;).

From Think Secret

Additional sources have confirmed the MacBook's announcement this Tuesday. Further, sources report that the MacBook will be thinner than current iBooks, will be available in both black and white configurations, and will likely cost slightly more than previous iBook models—not unlike the price increase Apple's Mac mini saw with its transition to Intel processors.

And as for this, additional sources........ i've got rss appleins, macrum and thinksec. and first its on AI than 5min later on MR and TS lacks behind some days usually and than 'Additional sources confirmed' updates, while these confirms are just more and more people to believe this is true, just because every site simply copies

Sounds like a decent prediction, BugSitter. I just hope that the high-end model is a bit more impressive that that... To me, there is very little difference between those two. I think that the low-end model may come with a single core chip rather than a duo running ~170MHz slower than the supposed "pro version" of the MacBook in the 13.3" form factor. Also, they may toss the built-in iSights...that would be nice.:) We'll see...hopefully in a few short days! :D

Oh, yes, I definitely meant the iSights to be included!

iMacs in black too?

If we see a MacBook in Black then I am sure the next iMac rev will sport a black line. HDTVs are commonly black, in many cases shiny, so it akes sense Apple would give options for a smart black "i" line for customer.

This one will cover the PowerBook 12 ", iBook 12 " and iBook 14, and a 13 " would be good for that.

I am quite sure that they will have Intel Core Duo processors, with a video card probably ATI, it gonna cover the 12 ", do you even think these people used 12 " PowerBooks would be happy without a video card? Nah I don't think so.

Yeah it might be possible that it comes in 2 colors, white & black, and they will probably already be out in Stores.

I will sell my 17 " iMac Intel Core Duo to buy this one, I can do that to get this one do you think?

Tuesday, it's soon!

ycatskissel: We are already kinda sure that it will be a new computer on tuesday and what the price will be, hmm it will be lower than the MacBook Pro's. :)

I´ve received a coupon from Apple ending 21st May. Therefore, I´m inclined to bet on Tuesday 23rd....

However, I´ve been burned by 2 of 2 Apple´s rev A products, so I don´t think I´m going to buy this rev A Macbook...

Yup...usually it's best to wait at least a bit...however, the MBP blunders probably mean the MB will be more on target.

If the MacBooks, as rumoured, come in the black and white colours...

I think this follows on from the design of the current iPods which are in white and black. So maybe we could see black versions of the iMac and Mac mini introduced as an option?

I would rather see a 23" iMac over a black imac ;)

Ain't that the truth. I used to be a TS 'believer' but ever since their legal wrangling with Apple, they've been horribly OFF the mark. I can't remember any of their product predictions they've gotten right in the last couple of years.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already (I'm not about to read 20 pages of posts) but the 12 inch powerbook now says 5-7 buisness days waiting with *any* upgrades, including a simple ram upgrade. This has to be a sign that a replacement is near...:D
Interesting, but both models of iBooks are shipping within 24 hours.

don't forget the iBook G4!
A few have pointed this out but the iBook G4 was same as the previous G3 model in almost every way except for the new CPU. It was more of a speed bump as opposed to a new product. By all indications, the new Intel MacBook will feature:

new architecture
new case
new screen
new latch system
new magsafe connector
new isight
new frontrow+apple remote
new color options?

In short, it's a significant release. This will be the most significantly redesigned Mac since the G5 iMac. If this doesn't warrant a special event, I don't know what does.

Merom-All-the-Way

Yayyy. This is pretty much confirmed. I can't wait!!!

I won't be getting one just yet though. I'm waiting until they have Leopard and iLife 07 on them.

I agree with you. Add to those two the Santa Rosa platform which will include the Robson cache technology (read instant booting) and 802.11n. Since Merom starts at 1.86, there is a good chance Apple will put a 2.0GHz in one of their MacBook models--that is my sweetspot.

veritable source

enough for this... "an anonymous source"?! :(
i used to work for a mac store, i recently contacted my boss and he said that "new ibook replacement is coming this week" id call this a veritable source...

What are you blabbering about? Santa Rosa platform? Robson Cache? What?

And the MacBook will get Merom LONG after the MacBook Pro gets it. Not before Fall 07, my prediction. When the MacBook Pro gets Penryn, the MacBook will get Merom.

I want a 13.3 inch MacBook PRO, so it'll have the same chips the Pro laptops have.

please don't be another let-down, please....

To the poster above who asked if it was likely that they would include a back-lit keyboard, i dont think it is likely. It is a luxury which until recently, only the higher-end powerbooks have recieved.
I have no doubt it will include Front Row and the Apple Remote, and possibly (more likely than not) an iSight camera.
As much as i hate to think it, it looks like at least the low end model will have an integrated graphics chipset. If there is a model with a dedicated GPU, it's mine :p
I think Apple will continue their aluminium-for-pro and white-for-consumer look. I doubt they would release the iBook replacement in aluminium, as much as i would love to see it.
As for CPUs, my guess is that Apple will have a solo in the low end, and a duo in the higher end. I dont know much about Intel's lineup, but looking at the mac mini, it looks like the MB will have a CS 1.5 or a CD 1.67

another 2 cents to the pot, now up to $3.10 :D
