I used to laugh about "4-hour erections". I simply neglected to read the fine print. Unfortunately I am paying for that ignorance now. I sure wish I hadn't downed that 36oz Mocha Skim Latte right before I hit "download". PLEASE, do yourselves a big favor... read the fine print before you suffer the same fate...

Not laughing now...

Huh?

Just keep trying to download. The serials might take a while to generate. I'm fairly sure you can download the software at their site and then just register when you get a chance. From reading the thread, it seems as if the developer's servers are overloaded right now.

Nabby

Yes, that's why I edited my msg...all is fine now, but the Hordes serial doesn't work as yet...there is some connection problem for the moment.

Not to ask again, I just want to be sure, MacHeist will 100% not spam me?

This deal just seems too good to be true..

There are only a few people that can guarantee that 100%.

I can say I've purchased a Mac Heist bundle in the past and did not get spammed afterward. They so send a few email around when they launch new bundles, so maybe you'd consider that spam. But they don't do it constantly and it is relevant. I don't find it annoying so I don't consider it spam.

If you want 100% guarantee then don't download it. But if you do, worse comes to worst, you just might need to adjust your spam filter.

I'd go for it (well, actually, I did go for it).

Let's get those registration servers up MacHeist! Damn you guys for getting me addicted to Hordes of Orcs, stopping me midgame for the registration code, then having your servers down! ;):D

They certainly seem to have been ill-prepared for the traffic... hope their server issues are straightened out soon.

A side issue, the Hordes of Orcs game apparently is not a fan of the Nvidia Quadro FX 4500 video card... all I get is a white screen. Can't reach the support site to see if anyone else has had that issue. (server trouble there, too, it seems)

Seems like a great bundle, though, if all the glitches get worked out!

First up, to let you know who I am: I'm the developer behind Hordes of Orcs. Let me take a moment to apologize for the hassle you're encountering. Freeverse and I try to be pretty thorough about these things but we're only human. I can promise you though that I'll do everything in my power to help you get up and running with the game!

I'm unaware of issues with the Quadro FX 4500 specifically, and I can say from experience that usually nVidia cards are pretty good from a shader compatibility standpoint* so it may not actually be the card itself that's the issue here (game might be crashing on launch for other reasons).

* - ATI has several major "flavors" of architecture they seem to cycle between and each one has unique restrictions and limitations that mean even to be on top of "recent" ATI hardware I need to test three or more different GPUs to be even vaguely confident that I've got my bases covered. That doesn't cover all the legacy models from before standardized shaders, or the variants you wanna cover due to chip or driver bugs... nVidia has plenty of issues too of course, but barring a bug or performance issue, or really high-end features (that I don't use), if my shader "works" on one nVidia card it's generally gonna work on any nVidia card.

If you could go into your home directory and go to Library -> Logs -> Unity and send me the Player.log file, it would be enormously helpful in diagnosing the issue.

I can also send you a preview of the upcoming 1.1.5 build to see if behaves better on your system (I upgraded to Unity 2.5.1 -- the 1.1.4 build was made with Unity 2.1.0, so there may be some chipset/driver-specific workarounds they've incorporated that might be relevant).

How can there be a 50 - 50 positive/negative split for software that is being given away? What is there not to like?

Their registration servers being down and therefore not being able to use the software

(I did not/would not down vote though)

? Apps that do the same thing for free. The iPhone app costs $. For desktop note sinking, try evernote.

Evernote is great for iPhone owner, but it syncs with the cloud rather than your device, and so you have to go online to get at your info. If you have an iPod Touch then Shovebox is far better than Evernote, as your info is stored on your computer and your iPod.

The Hordes of Orcs game is pretty entertaining. Not sure that I'd use any of the others though. But for free, what the hey. Hope we reach 500K!

The license server for Hordes of Orcs is finally up!

Anybody else notice the serious bug in HoO? To wit, it doesn't show up in the application stack, so you can't switch to it with Apple-Tab.

Also, it was very inobvious in TinyGrab (I think that was the one) that the login screen is how you register the software, and that your "password" is your serial number.

I don't like hordes of Orcs, its too distracting for a tower defense game. Defense Grid or Circuit breakers are much better.

Hmm, I like tower defense games so I may have to give those a shot too. :)

Yeah, I ran out of my trial time last night on HoO, and now when it says to "please purchase" the pane disables and becomes unresponsive and I have to force quit it. Anyone else experience this?

I've been playing the Orcs game for a little bit, and all of a sudden an ingame message comes up and says it's opened up my email program and is going to send an email. Sure enough, Entourage opens up and an email that is promoting their company is sitting there waiting for me to send it. I DO NOT APPRECIATE THIS! I WILL BE UNINSTALLING ALL OF YOUR PROGRAMS. THIS IS NOT ETHICAL!

Am I the only one that has an extra email account I use for these things? It's full of spam, but it's not like I ever actually check it.

I'm amazed at the griping. How can you complain over free apps? You can't be more generous than giving away your product for freaking FREE! Its not like they are normally free.

This is a fun deal anyway you look at it. Stop complaining and just download them. Even if you delete them later its not costing you anything! :p

Hey, sorry for the confusion -- it's nothing sinister at all.

At the end of a game, if you click the "Taunt Your Friends!" button, we tell the operating system to open a "mailto:" URL that opens your email client and puts in a subject line of "You've Been Taunted!" and a body that tells what game mode you were playing and what your score was.

It's just like clicking a "mailto" link in your web browser.

Just to be clear, let me reiterate:

  • We don't open your email client unless YOU click "Taunt Your Friend!"
  • No email is sent unless YOU click send in your email client.
  • At no time will Hordes of Orcs ever send an email to anyone.
  • At no time will Hordes of Orcs ever access your address book or any other personal information on your machine.

Come on, own up. Who's been going round MacRumors hitting people with the stupid stick, this thread is ridiculous.

I like MacHesit - I bought the last bundle [$49?] for WireTap Studio alone... and was more than pleasantly surprised with Kinemac 3d [quite cool], and the games Cromag rally, but my favorite of the package and worth every penny that I didnt even expect... World of Goo - that was par excellent and I would have not known about it or tried it otherwise.

Boinx and isale made it worth it to me. Am starting to not like isale, (just stick with manual ebay listing) but I was going to buy it anyway so this set was worth it.

My thoughts exactly. I didn't really jump out of my shoes when I saw the titles, but 6 free apps that take less than 200 MB of disk space (including the game) isn't bad. I have them on my HD if I ever come to the point of needing them. Or then one could simply get the serials without downloading the apps, and download them when there's need for it.
My thoughts exactly. I immediately got the serials, but have not downloaded one app yet. These apps aren't the greatest, but I was pleased enough to pay $49 last macheist and I still don't regret it. As for spam goes, it kind of makes me mad that Macheist does NOT spam. I was not even informed of this bundle by email, and I am a registered user/previous purchaser. But hey, free and there (hopefully) if I ever find the need to download one of the apps.

What's the catch, if any? Can someone enlighten me, please?

Chances are, the developers are getting ready to release updates. Possibly these versions won't qualify for free upgrades (sometimes do; sometimes don't). So the developer gets lots of people (500,000 or more possibly) who might be willing to pony the upgrade fee.

Even if they aren't, this is great free publicity and exposure. I wouldn't worry about spam. Mariner has a fairly aggressive email marketing department, which might annoy some folks, but it's only about once a month or so. Think of it as your occasional test to make sure the delete key works.

Even if you're not thrilled by the selection, it's still free and you get software you wouldn't have had otherwise. The Hordes of Orcs game is pretty cool. And I'm looking forward to comparing MarinerWrite to Pages.

wish it was a little cheaper.....:(

agree - love the sarcasm. it reminded me though of those other people who will find and complain about something wrong with everything - so sad.

anyways, i got the bundle for writeroom and will see if i have any use for the other apps...
