Yeah, how dare the developer ask for money for HIS WORK!

That being said the reviews for the iPhone app are not very encouraging.

Just the same, I'm not aware of developers refunding money when you find out the s/w you just bought, and were unable to test out prior to buying, is really a pile o' junk. It goes both ways, ya know.

Personally I rarely buy s/w unless there is a trial version or I've played with the full version somewhere (like the Apple Store or on a friend's machine). I'm loath to buy s/w blindly.

The stupidity is quite high in this thread.

And I was disappointed by Twitteriffic. I had heard good things, but I think TweetDeck is a much better app.

I haven't tried anything else yet.

Awesome & done! :D

So someone explain to me why there are 76 negative ratings for this? Don't go into the tired argument that it cheapens development. Fact is all of these developers agreed to do it and for free, so it's a moot point.

Besides that, the only thing I noticed is the 2 writing apps.... but beggars can't be choosers! ;) ShoveBox and Twitterrific make the bundle for me!

Why would ANYONE rate this story as negative?

Even if you don't want ANY of the Apps - so what? Some people do, and for those people, they can have them...FOR NOTHING. FREE.

What on EARTH would anyone complain about?

There is a difference between researching your purchase and just assuming that the developer should give things away for free (like the poster I was quoting).

My thoughts exactly. I didn't really jump out of my shoes when I saw the titles, but 6 free apps that take less than 200 MB of disk space (including the game) isn't bad. I have them on my HD if I ever come to the point of needing them. Or then one could simply get the serials without downloading the apps, and download them when there's need for it.

I think what cheapens this is that at least one of the programs does not work and will not let you register. Thumbs down for me.

Does anyone else feel like there are free apps that do this just as well already?

I mean... Bean does the same thing as both those writing apps, as far as I know. Twitterific is nice though.

The Grab program seems neat but you could also do the same thing with dropbox and the built in Grab program. Since I already have Dropbox I doubt I'm going to run a process just to upload screen shots. :p

Cool though. It's free so I can't complain. :D I just found out about macheist the other day so this was neat to see.

By having these commercial tie-ups posted within the main body of the site, I think it makes MacRumors look less impartial/independent/honest.

WTF??! I wondered the same thing myself. Maybe I should give it a "negative" because it cheapens my self worth to get free stuff. I downloaded it... but will I still respect myself in the morning?

Free advice (and software) is worth what you pay for it?? Maybe thats why sex you pay for is SO much better than what you get for free (totally snarky on that, lol).

Lastly, it CLEARLY states the last ap will only be unlocked upon 500k... I sure someone will point that out by the time I hit "post"...
cheers,
michael

PS: be patient... the registration codes DO come up. Mine took about 10 mins...

Could you elaborate on how could you do the _same_ with dropbox? as in hit a key combo, hear the notification that ur photo is uploaded, and find the link in the clipboard? yeah, didn't think so :p.

Besides, this ain't 1980 anymore. Running a separate process on a modern computer and OS is "nothing".

Keep downloadin' guys...

gotta get to 500k! I'm always on the lookout for a good new writing app. So far, I've been thrilled with Scrivener, but I'd like something better for short stuff too.

Use this workflow posted on the Dropbox wiki http://wiki.dropbox.com/DropboxAddons/Dropbox Service and set it up as a script to watch for images from Grab (already on your mac and already has hotkeys) and it will upload them to your public folder and put the link on your clipboard. If you have Growl installed you'd get a notification.

I think I may do this anyway because it'd be nice to get the autoclipboard link for ANY files I make public, not just screenshots.

All this stuff is junk. Useless and unnecessary. Just spent 1/2 hour installing, and then uninstalling everything. Not to mention, they seem to be just 30 day trials anyway; regardless, even if they aren't, they're still junk in my opinion.

Macrumors has never been impartial or independent.

And so what - IT'S FREE APPS.

FREE.

It doesn't cost you anything if you want them. It doesn't cost you anything if you don't.

What is there possibly to be negative about.

For a community that would be fairly happy to pay $299 for a lump of poo with an Apple logo on it somethimes - complaints about FREE stuff is utterly astonishing.

Did you bother to read the first post...

And how do you cheapen free?

Of course I read the first post. My point was that I tried to register one program (Hordes of Orc) and no serial number is accepted. The site itself has problems.

My point is this: advertising a program that does not work is bad business. I don't recommend either the program or the bundle it's a part of. If this program has bugs, what about the other ones? It certainly lowers the likelihood of trying out the rest of the programs.

If you're point is this: it's free, so it can't get any cheaper, then that assumption is also misplaced. Non-functioning/mis-functioning programs do result in a cheapening of the brand. Why would I ever pay money for programs like those in the MacHeist bundle? This is my first time trying it out. I downloaded one program. The program does not work. Is there a likelihood that I will purchase this bundle again when the next time rolls around? No. If the programs may or may not work, or significant errors occur when I try using them, it's not worth it. So yes, even poor crafted free programs can still cheapen the overall value and image of a company.

And you didn't see the serial numbers that you get with them to register?

If they weren't there when you downloaded them they would be soon. You may have missed the "Processing your registration, come back here to get your serial numbers" banner at the top. :p

twitterific is nothing compared to tweetie... and yeah i probably would never have paid for these apps. they have a nice website, and a macrumors endorsement post mustve cost some serious $$ though

If the Hords or Orc program cannot be registered, that is the fault of the developer (the reg servers are down - it happens - it does not "not work") and not MacHiest - they are a distributor. My guess it that their servers ave been getting slammed. When you give away free stuff this happens.
