Apple have had a few change the world moments, this was certainly one of them, the iPhone and iPad were probably the others. The Mac line is largely neglected these days, probably through channelling resources at other lines of products. I wonder what their next change the world moment will be. Or, IF they will ever have another one.

Look, I understand we can argue the strengths of Tim Cook, but his comments feel contrived and out of touch. More people than ever use Mac but that is predicated on the Apple that was built before Tim. More people than ever are also switching away from Mac. Why? Too expensive, not upgradeable, lack of ports, no touch screen laptop, and the professionals feel left behind. The best part about Mac, and quite frankly only thing keeping me from moving over to a Surface Pro, is MacOS.

My 2018 MBP does not feel special the way that earlier Macs did. There was something about those older Macs (even at the Intel era). The OS and accessories are nice enough these days, but there was always a rebellious sort of spunk to them that has slowly been going away. Hard to capture. But my new Mac feels soulless and about as empty and hollow as its typing experience.

B.B King expresses it well:

I remember that. I was thinking "Apple....MacIntosh. Interesting. I wonder when we'll see the Apple Granny Smith? Also, did Lisa get annoyed?"

If that's all you want to do get the free Mini vMac emulator for your phone or tablet. Oh wait, Apple don't allow that but you can run it on your MacBook.
I have all that original stuff I bought in 1984. I upgraded my original 128 to 512 then to 1m. Those motherboards were expensive.

No game-changing products from Apple since Timmy took over in 2011. Only some nice accessories (Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple Pencil).

What game-changers on the order of iPod/iPhone do you have mind? Feel free to come with a couple of your own...

And...what iPhone/iPod-level game changers have Dell, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, Sony, Samsung, LG (and on and on), come up with in the last 9 years?

I was at The Computer Store in downtown Pittsburgh and they pulled a Mac out of the back room on this exact date at lunchtime. Me and my friends were amazed by the graphics since everything we knew at work was based on DOS with a C> command. We were super excited. Our company had a zero interest loan program to buy a personal computer and we each got a Mac. There was a bunch of us - probably around 20 and we had to wait for delivery, but saved a little money since it was a nice bulk deal. It would have been around $50,000 to buy 20 of them. And we each bought some accessories like floppy disks - I think a box of 10 was $50.

Amazing! They seemed like they were having so much fun. The passion that everyone had and the multi- brilliance of Jobs is why we have what we have today. First and foremost they simply loved the technology and the possibility. I see this in Elon Musk today.
[doublepost=1548339157][/doublepost]Happy Anniversary Mac!

Yea, i’ve had a good little mini vmac setup for years, running systems 1 through 5 for various little walks down memory lane.
Still works in Mojave, but since its 32-bit, it’ll bite the dust if/when I’m running a mac that can only run 10.15 or higher

I guess by now Macintosh will say its bored of Apple and will leave Apple to go network with other PC's and travel the world. 20 years later all Macintosh will have to show for itself is a few viruses and a cat screensaver.

DIY. My first Mac was a 128k, I soldered a ram upgrade for 512, added two Shugart drives (manual eject) and an A+ optical mouse. Check my Avatar. Needed 512k RAM to run the new LaserWriter. Worked until I got an SE30. Best machines ever were the Ci and Cx, one screw and every thing poped right out. Gasee championed the "open Mac."

I guess I will open up my 2017 15inch Macbook Pro that has not been used in 3+ months to run updates. I can't wait to use that keyboard!!!!!

I was Apple computer user since my first Apple IIE in grade school. For me Apple has destroyed the Mac. I am actually a happy Windows user at this point which is something I thought I would never say. I am seriously considering dumping my Macbook on Gazelle to recover some of the lost money. I should have NEVER sold my 2013 Macbook Pro.

Seeing this post about the Macs 35th anniversary, I thought I would see an overwhelming stories on how the Mac impacted them. Instead it is mostly the same ole cynical, sarcastic, complaining posts. Then I realized I am on MacRumors and that is the norm.

For me, I didn't get my first Mac until 2002 (iMac) because I wanted the best experience with the iPod I purchased. The halo effect. I marveled at how Mac OS8 ran. Felt free from the Window issue I constantly dealt with.
