1. You have to sign in to an Apple ID to download Sierra, it doesn't matter which you use.
2. The Mid-2009 MacBook Pro works with Sierra 100%, I own one and have verified this.
3. There's no security issues as far as I can tell.

The tool is updated and should work fine with the final release.

dosdude1, thank you for your quick reply.
I want to ask a question about Question 1 in detail.
I will purchase(download) macOS Sierra with my friend's MBP.
My question is that I should log-in with my Apple ID to purchase Sierra due to later updates?

Can you try the DownloadSierra utility? I just added a function to forcefully download the package if it already exists.
I'm working on adding the mas tool as a feature of the Sierra Patch Tool, however the limitation I' running in to is that it only works if the app has been previously purchased on a supported machine, kind of making this method useless for some. I'm just going to keep the latest installers uploaded to MEGA for people who don't have a supported Mac to use. Or, what I may do is make a disposable Apple ID that it signs into automatically, and then downloads the app.

So macOS Sierra GM2 is the same build as the one released today? Or just installing GM2 and then upgrading using the App Store will do it? Thank you in advance.

Yeah, the Apple ID is only relevant while downloading the installer app itself, after installed it's no longer relevant whosoever, and you can use any Apple ID within the App Store on the machine you actually install Sierra on.

Trying it now...

NOTE to all:
- there is no feedback from the utility, but the Activity Monitor shows a storedownloadd daemon pulling stuff down
- if you bring up the app store the Purchased Tab shows the Sierra download progress..and I'm not even signed in...
- currently fairly slow though...reports about two hours left to download 4.77GB
- did I mention I'm not even logged into the MAS :) ...
- Finally downloaded version 12.0.49 of the macOS Sierra Installer
- MAS must have gotten confused about my login status, cause I must have been signed in even though the update page was prompting me to. The menu Sign Out item was enabled.
- a few Event timeout and download cancelled errors (even though the download was active), then again I wouldn't expect it to be completely bullet proof at this point...bleeding edge stuff
- otherwise looks good will patch a la dosdude soon

thanks!

Earlier in the thread a guy said his mid 2008 MBP webcam did not work after upgrading to Sierra when on page 1 of this thread it says only the wi-fi is suppose to not work on that model. I have a late 2008 MacBook 5,1 but want to ask is there possibilities of something going wrong like my webcam not working if i upgrade? Does "perfect" really mean 100% working everything tested like the mic, sound, webcam, ect.? Those things are crucial for my work

I don't know if my posts are still invisible but can anyone confirm if there is even a tiny chance of having something not work on the MacBook 5,1. Please and thank you

Here's a quick little app that uses the mas push technique. Just click OK and go.
http://swdist.furcode.co/bin/DownloadSierra.zip

I get a dialog of "Redownload Unavailable with This Apple ID - This redownload is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." -- I've tried two different Apple IDs. I'm still on El Capitan, no beta Sierra installed. Anyone heard of this? I've tried signing out and back in again, and resetting via mas-cli, to no avail.

Hi, im on 16A319 trying to download final version since my Mac is not supported the MAS is not an option, do you know if there is a download link somewhere ?
Thanks Dosdude !

Master dosdude1 please let us know when the latest installer will be uploaded to Mega. Thanks in advance.

Download foxlet tool and you'll be good to go.

Thanks! I was using foxlet tool, unfortunately -- which I believe is just a wrappper around the mas-cli tool version 1.3.0. (It's bundled inside as /Contents/Resources/exec/mas.run.)

To upgrade from El Capitan to Sierra on a 2009 Macbook Pro, do I need to erase my HDD as described in the macOS Sierra Patcher Tool or can the step be skipped and the software be "upgraded" over the existing HDD?

I can probably host the installers on my server if you want to implement it in your Patch Tool right now

Oh! That's why I can't install it with the mas tool. Because I need to have installed it already from a supported machine. Heck. I don't have a supported machine. Hmm.

I'll be adding this into the Sierra Patch Tool shortly.

I just made a dedicated Apple ID for this, and that should work just fine.

Is SIP still enabled after applying the patch to the installer and install macOS Sierra? Or otherwise once installed the patched macOS SIP remains off? Thanks.

dosdude1, thanks for this great patch tool! I'm about to use it on my late 2008 Macbook 5,1 Aluminum. One question: the instructions include a step to erase/format the drive; is this a necessary step? In other words, it is not possible to install Sierra over El Capitan on unsupported Macs in order to retain my settings and files?

Also, a question about the Software Update Patch Tool: the instructions imply that the tool must be used in order for new updates to show up in the App Store. Does this mean that I will no longer be automatically notified of available updates unless I manually run the tool?

Thanks!

No, you can simply install overtop your El Capitan install, and it'll work just fine. As for Software Updates, no, you will not be notified of new 10.12.x updates (most likely), and will need to run the tool in order for them to show up. Every time you open the tool, though, it will check for updates and prompt you to install it if an update is available.

As many are asking, for those who have unsupported mac, how can the final version be downloaded from MAS or somewhere else?

I'm currently working on a solution, and when finished, will be added to a new release of the Patch tool.

I've been using the first GM install for a week or 2 now, MB 5,1 (late 2008). Everything is working perfectly for me (including camera and Siri). Only thing not working is AirDrop for some reason, but I'm not sure if it's due to my system (I never tried it on previous OS).
