Is it needed to create an USB installer with @dosdude1 's new tool, or can an already installed sierra DP7 selected as target or will it brick it, because it would expect an usb stick to create an installation medium?

First of all I want to thank @dosdude1 for his great work. Using your tool I'm able to keep my MBP 5,1 still up to date although not officially supported by Apple.
I've installed the final built using "mas install 1127487414" in Terminal and your tool. After patching the install files on a USB stick, I've installed it over my existing Sierra GM (first one), rebooted, installed the "post install patch" and everything works like a charm :)
Just one thing that doesn't work as expected: The recovery drive shows up, but if I try to boot from it, the crossed out circle appears. Is there any chance to get the recovery drive working as well? Sometimes it's useful to have it ;)

What about this error?

Can someone please tell me if the Ambient Light Sensor patch is needed on a mid-2009 MBP? If not, how do I confirm that my ALS is working properly? Thank you

I own a Macmini3,1 aka Mac Mini Early 2009. I've tried to browse through this thread searching for answers if Sierra will run on this Mac. So far I've managed to find out that using dosdude's patch tool it can be made to run. However, apparently Wi-Fi might not be functional which is a definite deal-breaker for me. Two questions:
  1. Will the Wi-Fi support come (or should I stop wasting time on thinking about getting Sierra to my Mac)?
  2. Will I be able to do system updates like before (via App Store) or do I have to do them manually or with a tool?
I'd really appreciate feedback on this matter as I'm trying to decide whether to stick with El Capitan for now (and maybe buy a Mac in the future) or try to, yet again, extend the life of my Mac Mini. I really only need it for browsing the web, for streaming, for e-mails and for light word-processing. However, it is important that basic features (such as Wi-Fi) function without hiccups as I don't extend the life of this Mac at the cost of constantly having to fix issues.

I own the late 2009 mac mini and yes, I can confirm Sierra runs using dosdude's tools and patches. Thank you dosdude for all your work :)

Wifi though is not working because the internal card is not supported and afaik never will be. Nor is afaik a newer model of that internal card available that could be used to upgrade the mini.

One way to go is to buy and try a mac os compatible USB wifi dongle, which I did (I bought one from aukey with a ralink supported chipset which offers osx drivers, do not remember the exact model right now) .. this device runs fine under el cap, but won't under sierra (the driver installs but the dongle's wifi control center won't open) :/

I tried this with sierra gm1, did not try it with the final release yet ...

In fact not having wifi on my mini makes it quite useless with sierra, this is why I installed it on a separate partition where it will remain until this issue is resolved somehow. If I won't be able to get the dongle running I will have to stick with el cap

as regards updates, I remember dosdude saying system updates would be possible once one installs the final version of sierra and the latest version of his update patch. please correct me if I remember incorrectly

@ChrisChaval, @Tigerman82 - any OS updates (that force the check for your system) will need a patch applied (those of us that were running the beta's, each beta release required the system to be patched again). Minor security patches and App updates should still load fine.
Hopefully it'll just be the 10.12.1 update that will require a patch.

Regarding your wifi cards - I can't help but wonder if the cards which use a similar connector to yours wouldn't work in your mini's. (but, you would also need to buy the antennae as a kit - as I believe the connector has changed).
If the interface and voltage is the same, then it would work (but, that's a gamble someone with one of your systems would need to make).

I did actually have one of the ralink USB adapters working with Sierra (it's the Edimax adapter) - which manufacturer doesn't matter - they all use the same drivers for that chipset. I'll see if I can't find the source for the latest drivers. (it's somewhat annoying to use though - the utility must start up, then find your saved network - and your USB wifi adapter doesn't show up in networking preferences).

A link to the drivers would be much appreciated, thank you

I remember downloading mine from mediatek

One more thing ..

One more thing I think I remember is dodude promising to support our old Macs for the next 10 years ...

Correct me if I'm wrong ;)

Hi dosdude1, i have a error when i start the installation "operation not permitted "
pmbh2FMgj
What the problem for you ? Thanks for your help

Edit : translation :
the operation could not be completed . Operation not permitted. exit the installer to restart your computer and try again

Anyone know which Broadcom Airport cards works?

Mine is:
Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.36.16)
Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8C)

lspci:
0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4328 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 05)
0b:00.0 0280: 14e4:4328 (rev 05)

lspci says, i have 4328. But specs on wikipedia says 4322 for MacBookPro4,1. My Airport card is never been replaced

Hardware ID 0x14E4, 0x8C is the BCM4321, which is NOT supported in Sierra.

After updating using @dosdude1's tool everything worked except the wifi - is your wifi working? - and if so could you mention the card.

And to that point - could anyone recommend a wifi usb adapter/card that would work for a 2008 Mac Pro on sierra?

Maybe this question already has been asked.
Can i upgrade my el captain to sierra without erasing disk and keep all my files ect?

Successfully installed on my mid 2009 MacBook Pro 5, 5 but after a reboot I am stuck at the login screen with no keyboard/track pad function.

Has this happened to anyone else? Thank you.
Yes it has. In my case judiciously rebuilding my kernel extensions from either recovery or (in the most dire of cases) from my USB boot solves the problem.

I'm almost giving up. I downloaded the OS again and still getting the crossed out circle sign. I'll change my usb as a last attempt. If I fail again I'll stick with El Capitan, unfortunately.

I'm going to release an update soon to the tool, I think I know what's causing that issue.

I just found out that Sierra is in my purchase history. It is dated 15 September, I think I redeemed the public beta once more that day (because I read that some user now had two entries there and I was curious about it). It seems that this was the actual Sierra release. :)
