Hello dosdude. Many thanks to you, foxlet and everyone else for their work here.
I have a late 2008 MBP 5.1 and am attempting to install Sierra. Using your tools (dosdude MacOS Sierra patch, the post install patch and the foxlet patch to allow updates), for the most part this has worked but I do have some questions and concerns about the security of Mac:
1) In the App Store, the software update macOS Update 10.12.1:
The words "Source: swdist.furcode.co" appear in the update information.
i) Are the updates downloaded from swdist.furcode.co?
ii) The domain furcode.co is registered in Panama and the owner name is hidden. Who does this site belong to and should I trust it?
iii) Elsewhere in this thread "furcode.com" has been mentioned (which sells tags and sw for locating pets). Why does the foxlet app point to furcode.co and not furcode.com?
iv) How do I know these updates are genuine unaltered Apple updates and not modified code that will allow hackers to access my mac?
v) The downloaded macOS Update from Apple is 1.36GB. The one downloaded after the foxlet patch is applied is around 512MB. Why the bug difference in size? It also contains a firmware update. Why is there a firmware update?
vi) When using the previous version of disk utility (manage disk), Little Snitch shows the process systemmigrationd attempting to connect to furcode.co. The corresponding IP addresses are 104.28.8.16, 104.28.9.16 which belong to CloudFlare. What is happening here please?
2) On my MBP 5.1, the camera is no longer working after installing these updates.
Can you, or someone on the forum, please help me with these questions/concerns?
