Fix the damn MAIL program! It's been broken for years. Every update loses server settings. Fixing those is worse than a trip to the dentist! If you have like a dozen email accounts for businesses/personal, etc, remember all your server settings and passwords is nearly impossible. At any given time, I have at least one email account that will not SEND MAIL AT ALL! This is ridiculous and gone on long enough. UGH!

I only have 3 accounts but most times that there is a major upgrade at least one of them can no longer send mail. I can receive on all 3 but one of the 3 will no longer send, meaning I can't just his reply. It seems to be pretty democratic however, it is just as likely to be my Apple account that quits working as either of the other two.

macOS and iOS should not be unified. They are separate precisely because one is intended for use with a keyboard and mouse, and one is intended for use with a fat finger.

Don't make the same mistake Microsoft did with Windows 8.

Congratulations on turning the Mac into an iPad. Being a mere developer who only needs the system to be logical and functional, I'm out.

PS: What did TextEdit and the Color meter do to you?

The guy wants LaunchPad removed but changes to LaunchPad. LOL.....

TextEdit and Digital Color Meter are SOLID.
If anything they should add features (Hex) to Digital Color Meter.

And here I am wanting to bounce from my phone to my tablet to my desktop and have my experience and files ostensibly identical. Like I put down my phone when I get home and pick up my iPad and my "session" is "restored".

Yes, please.

I do *NOT* want to see unification with iOS.

Disk Utility that isn't complete garbage. The last few versions seem to fail at least 50% of the time when reformatting, and probably about 75% of the time when changing the partition table. It also frequently (or always in the case of FAT/exFAT) mess up labels on new volumes.

Improved FTP/SFTP support in finder, specifically the ability to add/change content.

A return of the ability to change display output resolution without 3rd party help.

Improved OpenGL support and performance. OSX is way behind here.

A more advanced remote desktop capability, the current implementation is pretty much just VNC streaming. Would be nice if UI elements were rendered on the local machine, it would save significant bandwidth and could greatly improve responsiveness.

Bring back a way to browse (or at least find) Bonjour enabled network devices without 3rd party help.

A database export function for Mail.

More in depth user permission controls.

Ability to adjust/disable excessive "low battery" alerts for those of us using NiMH batteries in our Bluetooth peripherals.

Homekit and Healthkit applications would be nice, though I don't see it happening.

Probably more things that I can't think of right now - it's not even remotely near as long as my list for the calamity that is iOS at least.

*Edit* A big one just popped to mind. Seeing is how Apple seems to be completely unable to deliver anything competent on the Mac hardware front for whatever reason, how about giving us the ability to buy an OSX license for use on non-Apple hardware? I'd gladly pay $300 and deal with some form of license activation.

Why in System Preferences does the "Grid" button in the title bar still appear when already viewing all preference icons? Clicking it does nothing. Hurts my head to understand how such basic user interface bugs can exist over the course of 10+ years. Yes, minor, but still not an example of Apple's goal of perfection.
Clicking the Show All "grid" button allows you to jump to different panes and customise what panes are shown.

Green button expands windows to maximum size without hiding necessary things like the menu bar and dock.
The green traffic light is fullscreen and split screen, Option click for zoom (to size you've set) and restore.

Apple is expected to preview the next-generation version of macOS, macOS 10.14, at the keynote event for the Worldwide Developers Conference, set to be held on June 4. Though the keynote is less than two weeks away, we've heard little about what we might expect to see in the new version of macOS aside from the possibility of cross-compatible Mac and iOS apps.

With so few rumors about macOS 10.14 available, we turned to the MacRumors community to ask our readers what they would like to see the most in the next version of macOS.

macos1014-800x500.jpg

[*]Unified macOS and iOS design - With rumors of apps compatible with both iOS devices and Macs, MacRumors reader Glmnet1 would also like to see a more unified design between Macs and iOS devices. What that might look like is unclear, and while it could happen at some point, it's not likely for this year as we're not expecting major design changes with iOS 12 or macOS 10.14.
[*]Apple iOS apps for Mac - In the same vein, based on cross platform app rumors, several MacRumors readers would like to see iOS-exclusive apps like Apple News, Health, Activity, and Home made available on the Mac. A dedicated Apple Music app that's separate from iTunes is also on at least one reader's wishlist, as is an improved version of iTunes.
[*]HomeKit - A way to control HomeKit devices on Mac is a highly requested feature, either through the aforementioned Home app for the Mac or through Siri. At the current time, while Siri is available on macOS, the personal assistant can't control HomeKit devices from the Mac.
[*]Complications as Menu Bar items - Complications are limited to the Apple Watch, but since the device's debut, Apple Watch users have been hoping for their expansion to other platforms, including macOS and iOS. MacRumors reader ButteryScrollin would like Apple Watch-style complications to be added to the Mac's Menu Bar, introducing new quick-access shortcuts.
[*]Split-Screen improvements - MacRumors reader bmac89 would like some iPad-like improvements to the Mac's split-screen functionality, with options for dragging to resize or dismiss a split-screen view, opening apps into a split-screen view from the Dock or Spotlight, and initiating split-screen in the same way.
[*]APFS improvements - With macOS High Sierra, Apple introduced a new Apple Filesystem. The rollout of APFS was something of a nightmare for Apple customers who have Fusion drives that combine SSDs with traditional hard drives, and to this day, Apple has not implemented APFS support for Fusion drives. MacRumors reader Ncrypt would also like to see Apple use APFS to allow for macOS updates to install in the background to cut down on installation times.
[*]Group FaceTime - Group FaceTime is on both the macOS 10.14 and iOS 12 wishlists, and while it's something Apple is rumored to be working on, it's not clear if this is a feature that's ready for debut.

As with iOS 12, many readers listed performance and stability improvements at the top of their wishlists for macOS 10.14, and it's likely this is on Apple's to-do list as well. Apple is rumored to have delayed some macOS 10.14 and iOS 12 features to 2019 in order to focus on internal improvements following a slew of high-profile bugs that have impacted iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra.

What new features are you hoping Apple adds to macOS 10.14? Let us know in the comments. Make sure you check out our macOS 10.14 roundup for more on what we might see in the update, including possible naming choices. We've also got a separate iOS 12 wishlist that has a list of what MacRumors readers are hoping will come to iOS in 2018.

A MUCH IMPROVED mail and calendar program integrated into one.

Stop concentrating on new features and handle those in applications.

Just refine 10.13 please and make it more usable.

Concentrate on OPQRST - optimisation (of: ), performance, quality, reliability, stability and Time Machine.

The latter particularly with network attached storage, since Apple has abandoned its AirPort Time Capsule (and the whole AirPort product line).

How is this a 'nightmare'? It doesn't work on Fusion drives and you can't even install it on a Fusion drive. That might be disappointing for people that want APFS (I enjoy its benefits on my all-SSD iMac), but I'd hardly call that a 'nightmare'.

I have lost interest in macOS since Apple has refused to make an updated reasonably priced headless mac (mac mini or whatever) and a reasonably priced 15in or 17in laptop.

Most likely no one will ever have interest in all of my >10.000 photos, so selectively compressing the ones which aren't so important isn't a loss. Also, the videos I've taken with my iPhone 3 most likely use a compression technology of the past decade, so I doubt there'd be any quality loss when converting them to HEVC (but a major gain in freed memory).

Fair response. My statement holds true philosophically, but in practice you are correct.

As the family genealogist / historian, one of my greatest pleasures is finding boxes of old pictures in the attic/closet/garage/other and trying to figure out who they are. I've managed to locate pics of my grandparents on their honeymoon (Carlsbad Cavern). Sadly, future generations will never have the privilege. Our digital pics will become lost in the ether.

How about some of the basic annoyances fixed ?

1. Why did they remove the tasks from the calendar of yesteryears ? It is so useful - at least the way I use it - Don’t have to clutter calendar entries with todo items. Per the date if the task list appears, it would be awesome. That way calendar would be only for events and entries that needs to be done can be an add on.
2. How about adding tags to mail items ? Or adding text to the subject like Microsoft Outlook allows ?
3. Reminders can learn a thing or two from Things on interface. Why do the details and date screen look like an afterthought ?
4. Better icons for Safari. I hate this flat scheme where buttons merge into the background. At least have a border around the buttons to contain it. Hate to say it - but take a cue from buttons on Office for iOS. They are flat but they have good enough definition and character. I loved the earlier solid left and right pointing triangles on a raised button.
