2013 and 2014 there is no need, as macOS Monterey still contains the video kexts for these models.

if you want you can even keep the SIP activated

I used to do that on my Air 2012 with Big Sur and run like a charm.

Now with macOS Monterey, I had to give up SIP and patch the system volume because of Intel HD Graphics 4000

MacBook Air 2012 11" 4GB RAM

To answer my own question:
I have installed macOS 12.1 (21C5021h) on my MBP11,3. At the final boot stage it would not boot. Then I set this NVRAM variable from Recovery partition:

nvram fa4ce28d-b62f-4c99-9cc3-6815686e30f9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00
After that I was able to boot 12.1 beta.

But NVIDIA is not switchable anymore:

Sorry for the wrong advice. Just checked the spec for your mac and Intel Iris Graphics does not need patch.
But even if you run the post-install patch, it will not apply any irrelevant patches anyway.

How can I update my Mac Pro 4.1 to Monterey. It is flashed to 5.1. It is running on Big Sur with Martin Lo OC 0.7.4 and works great. But now I want to switch to OCLP 0.3.1. How can I do it? Please explain to me. Can I just update from system preferences from OCLP?

It is clear that Apple is making extended use of metal in their apps and therefore the bugs are more severe than in Big Sur.

Problems.

1. Safari
Bookmarks show tracks of mouse cursor and other annoying artefacts.
The Back Gesture with the trackpad (two finger right) is not working.
Some Pages are not completely displayed.
Safari just stops the rendering. Sometimes refresh helps, sometimes not.
Workaround: Use other browser.

2. Fotos
Month, day, etc views are missing.
in "All photos", the photos are not sorting according to "pictures taken" anymore.
HEIV Videos are played using wrong colors.
Maps view is not working.
Workaround: None

3. Maps and Where-Is do not display any map and are therefore dysfunctional.
Workaround: Use Google Maps in the Browser and loose "Where-Is" functions.

4. Bluetooth is not working
Workaround: Maybe 0.32 will fix it.

5. Split Screen is not working

6. Showstopper Bug:
The OS sometimes goes into a "cannot launch any apps" state.
Workaround: reboot.

Overall I cannot recommend upgrading to Monterey on this machine for the time being.
I hope for some fixes in OLCP in the future. But it is clear that the metal limitations are not fixable by OLCP and I guess sooner or later I have to say bye bye to this nice notebook. Too bad.

I have also nvidia card, maybe i need, ok i will patch…im waiting 2 hours for update, is it normal?

In order to avoid future problems please do as @Ausdauersportler advised and:
  1. Try to find and delete the OCLP installation you did to some external drive (that's the icon on the left).
  2. Then you should reinstall OCLP on the internal drive.
  3. After that clear the NVRAM.
  4. Then boot using alt/option key, select the remaining "EFI Boot" using ctrl key + enter key.
  5. Finally select MACHD using ctrl key + enter key.

Right I’m struggling more now - I tried upgrading as you are aware but in the reboot I went back in to big sur. i then tried booting to usb and installing and I get ‘this copy of the install macOS Monterey application is damaged, and can’t be used to install macOS’

I have re downloaded over Ethernet on my iMac and I get the same again? Any ideas?
 
So, without looking at all the latest messages; considering all factors such as HD4000 graphics card compatibility, among other drivers on an unsupported machine; if I'm running Big Sur 11.6.1 perfectly fine, is there any reason to switch my unsupported mid 2012 A1278 Macbook Pro with 16gb RAM, a 500gb SSD drive and HD4000 graphics card to macOS Monterey? Every-time I've gone to install the post volume patch so far, it says my machine doesn't require it. I know Apple dropped support for the HD4000 graphics card in Monterey, but has there been a fix for that that makes the entire OS worth upgrading to? My concern is only that I have everything "configured" 😉 just the way I want, and if I were to install Monterey and didn't like it, the only way I know to downgrade is to wipe my OS from Recovery mode and reinstall the OS. Or, Is this where a Time Machine Backup would come into play?

Nice, this could be the second chance for my 11,3 MBP. I don't care about the heat, the macbook is attached to an external display (which forces it to use the 750m anyway). Is this possible without kepler driver installation and SIP enabled as the Iris Pro only models? https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/install-macos-monterey-12-macbook-pro-retina-late-2013.2307146/ Would you be so kind to describe the necessary steps for your setup?

I am unable to get iMovie or any video editor to work. I have a 2011 iMac. Is it possible to get it to work? I have Monterey 12.0.1 which I got through OCLP.

I want to upgrade my Mac Pro 3.1 to an NVMe SSD (SAMSUNG 980 Pro) and install Monterey with OCLP.
What kind of PCIe adapter should I buy? There are particular models that work better on this Mac Pro?

Why does the app go back to dynamic switching when a display is plugged in?

Unfortunately your mac is designed such that in order to use an external display, it has to use the discrete graphics card. And since you plugged in the cable I'm assuming you want to use the display.

How do I disable my discrete GPU?

You can't, your macbook was designed to use both, but gSwitch can trick it into using the integrated one most of the time. However gSwitch cannot prevent your discrete gpu from being accessed by the operating system, and it will be accessed for a short period of time when a process requests the use of it. gSwitch just switches back to the integrated one as fast as it can.

What will happen if I permanently disable the discrete nVidia graphics card from EFI? Will Mac OS think integrated GPU is the one installed and let me use multiple monitors with it?

You will lose any ability to use an external monitor (under any OS). The external graphics port(s) are wired to the discrete graphics chip.

Besides there are no Nvidia drivers loaded.

You need to go to recovery mode and set:

If you want to use NVIDIA you need to patch the system with the NVIDIA drivers from the last Monterey containing it (OCLP can do that). Later you have to reboot to recovery and set:
